And as they spake unto the people, the priests and the captain of the temple
and the Sadducees came upon them, |

being sore troubled because they taught the people, and proclaimed in Jesus
the resurrection from the dead. |
彼らが人々に教を説き、イエス自身に起った死人の復活を宣伝しているのに気をいら立て、 |

And they laid hands on them, and put them in ward unto the morrow: for
it was now eventide. |
彼らに手をかけて捕え、はや日が暮れていたので、翌朝まで留置しておいた。 |

But many of them that heard the word believed; and the number of the men
came to be about five thousand. |
しかし、彼らの話を聞いた多くの人たちは信じた。そして、その男の数が五千人ほどになった。 |

And it came to pass on the morrow, that their rulers and elders and scribes
were gathered together in Jerusalem; |
明くる日、役人、長老、律法学者たちが、エルサレムに召集された。 |

and Annas the high priest was there, and Caiaphas, and John, and Alexander, and as many as were of the kindred
of the high priest. |
大祭司アンナスをはじめ、カヤパ、ヨハネ、アレキサンデル、そのほか大祭司の一族もみな集まった。 |

And when they had set them in the midst, they inquired, By what power,
or in what name, have ye done this? |
そして、そのまん中に使徒たちを立たせて尋問した、「あなたがたは、いったい、なんの権威、また、だれの名によって、このことをしたのか」。 |
| 4-8 |
Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said unto them, Ye rulers of the
people, and elders, |
その時、ペテロが聖霊に満たされて言った、「民の役人たち、ならびに長老たちよ、 |
| 4-9 |
if we this day are examined concerning a good deed done to an impotent
man, by what means this man is made whole; |
わたしたちが、きょう、取調べを受けているのは、病人に対してした良いわざについてであり、この人がどうしていやされたかについてであるなら、 |
| 4-10 |
be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that
in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from
the dead, even in him doth this man stand here before you whole. |
あなたがたご一同も、またイスラエルの人々全体も、知っていてもらいたい。この人が元気になってみんなの前に立っているのは、ひとえに、あなたがたが十字架につけて殺したのを、神が死人の中からよみがえらせたナザレ人イエス・キリストの御名によるのである。 |

He is the stone which was set at nought of you the builders, which was
made the head of the corner. |
このイエスこそは『あなたがた家造りらに捨てられたが、隅のかしら石となった石』なのである。 |
| 4-12 |
And in none other is there salvation: for neither is there any other name
under heaven, that is given among men, wherein we must be saved. |
この人による以外に救はない。わたしたちを救いうる名は、これを別にしては、天下のだれにも与えられていないからである」。 |
| 4-13 |
Now when they beheld the boldness of Peter and John, and had perceived
that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took
knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus. |
人々はペテロとヨハネとの大胆な話しぶりを見、また同時に、ふたりが無学な、ただの人たちであることを知って、不思議に思った。そして彼らがイエスと共にいた者であることを認め、 |

And seeing the man that was healed standing with them, they could say nothing
against it. |
かつ、彼らにいやされた者がそのそばに立っているのを見ては、まったく返す言葉がなかった。 |

But when they had commanded them to go aside out of the council, they conferred
among themselves, |
そこで、ふたりに議会から退場するように命じてから、互に協議をつづけて |
| 4-16 |
saying, What shall we do to these men? for that indeed a notable miracle
hath been wrought through them, is manifest to all that dwell in Jerusalem;
and we cannot deny it. |
言った、「あの人たちを、どうしたらよかろうか。彼らによって著しいしるしが行われたことは、エルサレムの住民全体に知れわたっているので、否定しようもない。 |

But that it spread no further among the people, let us threaten them, that
they speak henceforth to no man in this name. |
ただ、これ以上このことが民衆の間にひろまらないように、今後はこの名によって、いっさいだれにも語ってはいけないと、おどしてやろうではないか」。 |
| 4-18 |
And they called them, and charged them not to speak at all nor teach in
the name of Jesus. |
そこで、ふたりを呼び入れて、イエスの名によって語ることも説くことも、いっさい相成らぬと言いわたした。 |
| 4-19 |
But Peter and John answered and said unto them, Whether it is right in
the sight of God to hearken unto you rather than unto God, judge ye: |
ペテロとヨハネとは、これに対して言った、「神に聞き従うよりも、あなたがたに聞き従う方が、神の前に正しいかどうか、判断してもらいたい。 |
| 4-20 |
for we cannot but speak the things which we saw and heard. |
わたしたちとしては、自分の見たこと聞いたことを、語らないわけにはいかない」。 |
| 4-21 |
And they, when they had further threatened them, let them go, finding nothing
how they might punish them, because of the people; for all men glorified
God for that which was done. |
そこで、彼らはふたりを更におどしたうえ、ゆるしてやった。みんなの者が、この出来事のために、神をあがめていたので、その人々の手前、ふたりを罰するすべがなかったからである。 |

For the man was more than forty years old, on whom this miracle of healing
was wrought. |
そのしるしによっていやされたのは、四十歳あまりの人であった。 |
| 4-23 |
And being let go, they came to their own company, and reported all that
the chief priests and the elders had said unto them. |
ふたりはゆるされてから、仲間の者たちのところに帰って、祭司長たちや長老たちが言ったいっさいのことを報告した。 |
| 4-24 |
And they, when they heard it, lifted up their voice to God with one accord,
and said, O Lord, thou that didst make the heaven and the earth and the
sea, and all that in them is: |
一同はこれを聞くと、口をそろえて、神にむかい声をあげて言った、「天と地と海と、その中のすべてのものとの造りぬしなる主よ。 |
| 4-25 |
who by the Holy Spirit, by the mouth of our father David thy servant, didst say, /Why did the Gentiles rage, / And the peoples imagine vain things?

あなたは、わたしたちの先祖、あなたの僕ダビデの口をとおして、聖霊によって、こう仰せになりました、／『なぜ、異邦人らは、騒ぎ立ち、／もろもろの民は、むなしいことを図り、 |

The kings of the earth set themselves in array, /And the rulers were gathered together, /Against the Lord, and against his
Anointed: |
地上の王たちは、立ちかまえ、／支配者たちは、党を組んで、／主とそのキリストとに逆らったのか』。 |
| 4-27 |
for of a truth in this city against thy holy Servant Jesus, whom thou didst
anoint, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the peoples
of Israel, were gathered together, |
まことに、ヘロデとポンテオ・ピラトとは、異邦人らやイスラエルの民と一緒になって、この都に集まり、あなたから油を注がれた聖なる僕イエスに逆らい、 |

to do whatsoever thy hand and thy council foreordained to come to pass. |
み手とみ旨とによって、あらかじめ定められていたことを、なし遂げたのです。 |
| 4-29 |
And now, Lord, look upon their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants
to speak thy word with all boldness, |
主よ、いま、彼らの脅迫に目をとめ、僕たちに、思い切って大胆に御言葉を語らせて下さい。 |
| 4-30 |
while thy stretchest forth thy hand to heal; and that signs and wonders
may be done through the name of thy holy Servant Jesus. |
そしてみ手を伸ばしていやしをなし、聖なる僕イエスの名によって、しるしと奇跡とを行わせて下さい」。 |
| 4-31 |
And when they had prayed, the place was shaken wherein they were gathered
together; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spake
the word of God with boldness. |
彼らが祈り終えると、その集まっていた場所が揺れ動き、一同は聖霊に満たされて、大胆に神の言を語り出した。 |
| 4-32 |
And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and
soul: and not one of them said that aught of the things which he possessed was his own; but they
had all things common. |
信じた者の群れは、心を一つにし思いを一つにして、だれひとりその持ち物を自分のものだと主張する者がなく、いっさいの物を共有にしていた。 |
| 4-33 |
And with great power gave the apostles their witness of the resurrection
of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all. |
使徒たちは主イエスの復活について、非常に力強くあかしをした。そして大きなめぐみが、彼ら一同に注がれた。 |

For neither was there among them any that lacked: for as many as were possessors
of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that
were sold, |
彼らの中に乏しい者は、ひとりもいなかった。地所や家屋を持っている人たちは、それを売り、売った物の代金をもってきて、 |
| 4-35 |
and laid them at the apostles’ feet: and distribution was made unto each,
according as any one had need. |
使徒たちの足もとに置いた。そしてそれぞれの必要に応じて、だれにでも分け与えられた。 |

And Joseph, who by the apostles was surnamed Barnabas (which is, being
interpreted, Son of exhortation), a Levite, a man of Cyprus by race, |
クプロ生れのレビ人で、使徒たちにバルナバ（「慰めの子」との意）と呼ばれていたヨセフは、 |
| 4-37 |
having a field, sold it, and brought the money and laid it at the
apostles’ feet. |
自分の所有する畑を売り、その代金をもってきて、使徒たちの足もとに置いた。 |
