And Saul was consenting unto his death. And there arose on that day a great
persecution against the church which was in Jerusalem; and they were all
scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judaea and Samaria, except the
apostles. |
サウロは、ステパノを殺すことに賛成していた。その日、エルサレムの教会に対して大迫害が起り、使徒以外の者はことごとく、ユダヤとサマリヤとの地方に散らされて行った。 |

And devout men buried Stephen, and made great lamentation over him. |
信仰深い人たちはステパノを葬り、彼のために胸を打って、非常に悲しんだ。 |
| 8-3 |
But Saul laid waste the church, entering into every house, and dragging
men and women committed them to prison. |
ところが、サウロは家々に押し入って、男や女を引きずり出し、次々に獄に渡して、教会を荒し回った。 |
| 8-4 |
They therefore that were scattered abroad, went about preaching the word. |
さて、散らされて行った人たちは、御言を宣べ伝えながら、めぐり歩いた。 |
| 8-5 |
And Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and proclaimed unto them the
Christ. |
ピリポはサマリヤの町に下って行き、人々にキリストを宣べはじめた。 |
| 8-6 |
And the multitudes gave heed with one accord unto the things that were
spoken by Philip, when they heard, and saw the signs which he did. |
群衆はピリポの話を聞き、その行っていたしるしを見て、こぞって彼の語ることに耳を傾けた。 |
| 8-7 |
For from many of those that had unclean spirits, they came out, crying with a loud
voice: and many that were palsied, and that were lame, were healed. |
汚れた霊につかれた多くの人々からは、その霊が大声でわめきながら出て行くし、また、多くの中風をわずらっている者や、足のきかない者がいやされたからである。 |

And there was much joy in that city. |
それで、この町では人々が、大変なよろこびかたであった。 |
| 8-9 |
But there was a certain man, Simon by name, who beforetime in the city
used sorcery, and amazed the people of Samaria, giving out that himself
was some great one: |
さて、この町に以前からシモンという人がいた。彼は魔術を行ってサマリヤの人たちを驚かし、自分をさも偉い者のように言いふらしていた。 |

to whom they all gave heed, from the least to the greatest, saying, This
man is that power of God which is called Great. |
それで、小さい者から大きい者にいたるまで皆、彼について行き、「この人こそは『大能』と呼ばれる神の力である」と言っていた。 |
| 8-11 |
And they gave heed to him, because that of long time he had amazed them
with his sorceries. |
彼らがこの人について行ったのは、ながい間その魔術に驚かされていたためであった。 |
| 8-12 |
But when they believed Philip preaching good tidings concerning the kingdom
of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women. |
ところが、ピリポが神の国とイエス・キリストの名について宣べ伝えるに及んで、男も女も信じて、ぞくぞくとバプテスマを受けた。 |
| 8-13 |
And Simon also himself believed: and being baptized, he continued with
Philip; and beholding signs and great miracles wrought, he was amazed. |
シモン自身も信じて、バプテスマを受け、それから、引きつづきピリポについて行った。そして、数々のしるしやめざましい奇跡が行われるのを見て、驚いていた。 |

Now when the apostles that were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received
the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John: |
エルサレムにいる使徒たちは、サマリヤの人々が、神の言を受け入れたと聞いて、ペテロとヨハネとを、そこにつかわした。 |
| 8-15 |
who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive
the Holy Spirit: |
ふたりはサマリヤに下って行って、みんなが聖霊を受けるようにと、彼らのために祈った。 |
| 8-16 |
for as yet it was fallen upon none of them: only they had been baptized
into the name of the Lord Jesus. |
それは、彼らはただ主イエスの名によってバプテスマを受けていただけで、聖霊はまだだれにも下っていなかったからである。 |
| 8-17 |
Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy
Spirit. |
そこで、ふたりが手を彼らの上においたところ、彼らは聖霊を受けた。 |
| 8-18 |
Now when Simon saw that through the laying on of the apostles’ hands the
Holy Spirit was given, he offered them money, |
シモンは、使徒たちが手をおいたために、御霊が人々に授けられたのを見て、金をさし出し |
| 8-19 |
saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay my hands, he
may receive the Holy Spirit. |
「わたしが手をおけばだれにでも聖霊が授けられるように、その力をわたしにも下さい」と言った。 |
| 8-20 |
But Peter said unto him, Thy silver perish with thee, because thou hast
thought to obtain the gift of God with money. |
そこで、ペテロが彼に言った、「おまえの金は、おまえもろとも、うせてしまえ。神の賜物が、金で得られるなどと思っているのか。 |
| 8-21 |
Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not right
before God. |
おまえの心が、神の前に正しくないから、おまえは、とうてい、この事にあずかることができない。 |
| 8-22 |
Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray the Lord, if perhaps
the thought of thy heart shall be forgiven thee. |
だから、この悪事を悔いて、主に祈れ。そうすればあるいはそんな思いを心にいだいたことが、ゆるされるかも知れない。 |
| 8-23 |
For I see that thou art in the gall of bitterness and in the bond
of iniquity. |
おまえには、まだ苦い胆汁があり、不義のなわ目がからみついている。それが、わたしにわかっている」。 |
| 8-24 |
And Simon answered and said, Pray ye for me to the Lord, that none of the
things which ye have spoken come upon me. |
シモンはこれを聞いて言った、「仰せのような事が、わたしの身に起らないように、どうぞ、わたしのために主に祈って下さい」。 |
| 8-25 |
They therefore, when they had testified and spoken the word of the Lord,
returned to Jerusalem, and preached the gospel to many villages of the
Samaritans. |
使徒たちは力強くあかしをなし、また主の言を語った後、サマリヤ人の多くの村々に福音を宣べ伝えて、エルサレムに帰った。 |
| 8-26 |
But an angel of the Lord spake unto Philip, saying, Arise, and go toward
the south unto the way that goeth down from Jerusalem unto Gaza: the same
is desert. |
しかし、主の使がピリポにむかって言った、「立って南方に行き、エルサレムからガザへ下る道に出なさい」（このガザは、今は荒れはてている）。 |
| 8-27 |
And he arose and went: and behold, a man of Ethiopia, a eunuch of great
authority under Candace, queen of the Ethiopians, who was over all her
treasure, who had come to Jerusalem to worship; |
そこで、彼は立って出かけた。すると、ちょうど、エチオピヤ人の女王カンダケの高官で、女王の財宝全部を管理していた宦官であるエチオピヤ人が、礼拝のためエルサレムに上り、 |

and he was returning and sitting in his chariot, and was reading the prophet
Isaiah. |
その帰途についていたところであった。彼は自分の馬車に乗って、預言者イザヤの書を読んでいた。 |
| 8-29 |
And the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this
chariot. |
御霊がピリポに「進み寄って、あの馬車に並んで行きなさい」と言った。 |
| 8-30 |
And Philip ran to him, and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet, and said,
Understandest thou what thou readest? |
そこでピリポが駆けて行くと、預言者イザヤの書を読んでいるその人の声が聞えたので、「あなたは、読んでいることが、おわかりですか」と尋ねた。 |
| 8-31 |
And he said, How can I, except some one shall guide me? And he besought
Philip to come up and sit with him. |
彼は「だれかが、手びきをしてくれなければ、どうしてわかりましょう」と答えた。そして、馬車に乗って一緒にすわるようにと、ピリポにすすめた。 |
| 8-32 |
Now the passage of the Scripture which he was reading was this, /He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; /And as a lamb before his shearer
is dumb, /So he openeth not his mouth: |
彼が読んでいた聖書の箇所は、これであった、／「彼は、ほふり場に引かれて行く羊のように、／また、黙々として、／毛を刈る者の前に立つ小羊のように、／口を開かない。 |
| 8-33 |
In his humiliation his judgment was taken away: /His generation who shall declare? /For his life is taken from the earth.

彼は、いやしめられて、／そのさばきも行われなかった。だれが、彼の子孫のことを語ることができようか、／彼の命が地上から取り去られているからには」。 |
| 8-34 |
And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh
the prophet this? of himself, or of some other? |
宦官はピリポにむかって言った、「お尋ねしますが、ここで預言者はだれのことを言っているのですか。自分のことですか、それとも、だれかほかの人のことですか」。 |
| 8-35 |
And Philip opened his mouth, and beginning from this Scripture, preached
unto him Jesus. |
そこでピリポは口を開き、この聖句から説き起して、イエスのことを宣べ伝えた。 |
| 8-36 |
And as they went on the way, they came unto a certain water; and
the eunuch saith, Behold, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? |
道を進んで行くうちに、水のある所にきたので、宦官が言った、「ここに水があります。わたしがバプテスマを受けるのに、なんのさしつかえがありますか」。 |
| 8-37 |
And Philip said, If thou believest with all thy heart, thou
mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of
God. |
〔これに対して、ピリポは、「あなたがまごころから信じるなら、受けてさしつかえはありません」と言った。すると、彼は「わたしは、イエス・キリストを神の子と信じます」と答えた。〕 |
| 8-38 |
And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they both went down into
the water, both Philip and the eunuch, and he baptized him. |
そこで車をとめさせ、ピリポと宦官と、ふたりとも、水の中に降りて行き、ピリポが宦官にバプテスマを授けた。 |
| 8-39 |
And when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away
Philip; and the eunuch saw him no more, for he went on his way rejoicing. |
ふたりが水から上がると、主の霊がピリポをさらって行ったので、宦官はもう彼を見ることができなかった。宦官はよろこびながら旅をつづけた。 |
| 8-40 |
But Philip was found at Azotus: and passing through he preached
the gospel to all the cities, till he came to Caesarea. |
その後、ピリポはアゾトに姿をあらわして、町々をめぐり歩き、いたるところで福音を宣べ伝えて、ついにカイザリヤに着いた。 |
