５-１ Be ye therefore imitators of God, as beloved children; こうして、あなたがたは、神に愛されている子供として、神にならう者になりなさい。
５-２ and walk in love, even as Christ also loved you, and gave himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for an odor of a sweet smell. また愛のうちを歩きなさい。キリストもあなたがたを愛して下さって、わたしたちのために、ご自身を、神へのかんばしいかおりのささげ物、また、いけにえとしてささげられたのである。
５-３ But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as becometh saints; また、不品行といろいろな汚れや貪欲などを、聖徒にふさわしく、あなたがたの間では、口にすることさえしてはならない。
５-４ nor filthiness, nor foolish talking, or jesting, which are not befitting: but rather giving of thanks. また、卑しい言葉と愚かな話やみだらな冗談を避けなさい。これらは、よろしくない事である。それよりは、むしろ感謝をささげなさい。
５-５ For this ye know of a surety, that no fornicator, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. あなたがたは、よく知っておかねばならない。すべて不品行な者、汚れたことをする者、貪欲な者、すなわち、偶像を礼拝する者は、キリストと神との国をつぐことができない。
５-６ Let no man deceive you with empty words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the sons of disobedience. あなたがたは、だれにも不誠実な言葉でだまされてはいけない。これらのことから、神の怒りは不従順の子らに下るのである。
５-７ Be not ye therefore partakers with them; だから、彼らの仲間になってはいけない。
５-８ For ye were once darkness, but are now light in the Lord: walk as children of light あなたがたは、以前はやみであったが、今は主にあって光となっている。光の子らしく歩きなさい――
５-９ (for the fruit of the light is in all goodness and righteousness and truth), 光はあらゆる善意と正義と真実との実を結ばせるものである――
５-１０ proving what is well-pleasing unto the Lord; 主に喜ばれるものがなんであるかを、わきまえ知りなさい。
５-１１ and have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather even reprove them; 実を結ばないやみのわざに加わらないで、むしろ、それを指摘してやりなさい。
５-１２ for the things which are done by them in secret it is a shame even to speak of. 彼らが隠れて行っていることは、口にするだけでも恥ずかしい事である。
５-１３ But all things when they are reproved are made manifest by the light: for everything that is made manifest is light. しかし、光にさらされる時、すべてのものは、明らかになる。
５-１４ Wherefore he saith, Awake, thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall shine upon thee. 明らかにされたものは皆、光となるのである。だから、こう書いてある、「眠っている者よ、起きなさい。死人のなかから、立ち上がりなさい。そうすれば、キリストがあなたを照すであろう」。
５-１５ Look therefore carefully how ye walk, not as unwise, but as wise; そこで、あなたがたの歩きかたによく注意して、賢くない者のようにではなく、賢い者のように歩き、
５-１６ redeeming the time, because the days are evil. 今の時を生かして用いなさい。今は悪い時代なのである。
５-１７ Wherefore be ye not foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. だから、愚かな者にならないで、主の御旨がなんであるかを悟りなさい。
５-１８ And be not drunken with wine, wherein is riot, but be filled with the Spirit; 酒に酔ってはいけない。それは乱行のもとである。むしろ御霊に満たされて、
５-１９ speaking one to another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord; 詩とさんびと霊の歌とをもって語り合い、主にむかって心からさんびの歌をうたいなさい。
５-２０ giving thanks always for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God, even the Father; そしてすべてのことにつき、いつも、わたしたちの主イエス・キリストの御名によって、父なる神に感謝し、
５-２１ subjecting yourselves one to another in the fear of Christ. キリストに対する恐れの心をもって、互に仕え合うべきである。
５-２２ Wives, be in subjection unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. 妻たる者よ。主に仕えるように自分の夫に仕えなさい。
５-２３ For the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ also is the head of the church, being himself the saviour of the body. キリストが教会のかしらであって、自らは、からだなる教会の救主であられるように、夫は妻のかしらである。
５-２４ But as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives also be to their husbands in everything. そして教会がキリストに仕えるように、妻もすべてのことにおいて、夫に仕えるべきである。
５-２５ Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself up for it; 夫たる者よ。キリストが教会を愛してそのためにご自身をささげられたように、妻を愛しなさい。
５-２６ that he might sanctify it, having cleansed it by the washing of water with the word, キリストがそうなさったのは、水で洗うことにより、言葉によって、教会をきよめて聖なるものとするためであり、
５-２７ that he might present the church to himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. また、しみも、しわも、そのたぐいのものがいっさいなく、清くて傷のない栄光の姿の教会を、ご自分に迎えるためである。
５-２８ Even so ought husbands also to love their own wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his own wife loveth himself: それと同じく、夫も自分の妻を、自分のからだのように愛さねばならない。自分の妻を愛する者は、自分自身を愛するのである。
５-２９ for no man ever hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as Christ also the church; 自分自身を憎んだ者は、いまだかつて、ひとりもいない。かえって、キリストが教会になさったようにして、おのれを育て養うのが常である。
５-３０ because we are members of his body. わたしたちは、キリストのからだの肢体なのである。
５-３１ For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife; and the two shall become one flesh. 「それゆえに、人は父母を離れてその妻と結ばれ、ふたりの者は一体となるべきである」。
５-３２ This mystery is great: but I speak in regard of Christ and of the church. この奥義は大きい。それは、キリストと教会とをさしている。
５-３３ Nevertheless do ye also severally love each one his own wife even as himself; and let the wife see that she fear her husband. いずれにしても、あなたがたは、それぞれ、自分の妻を自分自身のように愛しなさい。妻もまた夫を敬いなさい。
