１-１ Paul, an apostle (not from men, neither through man, but through Jesus Christ, and God the Father, who raised him from the dead), 人々からでもなく、人によってでもなく、イエス・キリストと彼を死人の中からよみがえらせた父なる神とによって立てられた使徒パウロ、
１-２ and all the brethren that are with me, unto the churches of Galatia: ならびにわたしと共にいる兄弟たち一同から、ガラテヤの諸教会へ。
１-３ Grace to you and peace from God the Father, and our Lord Jesus Christ, わたしたちの父なる神と主イエス・キリストから、恵みと平安とが、あなたがたにあるように。
１-４ who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us out of this present evil world, according to the will of our God and Father: キリストは、わたしたちの父なる神の御旨に従い、わたしたちを今の悪の世から救い出そうとして、ご自身をわたしたちの罪のためにささげられたのである。
１-５ to whom be the glory for ever and ever. Amen. 栄光が世々限りなく神にあるように、アァメン。
１-６ I marvel that ye are so quickly removing from him that called you in the grace of Christ unto a different gospel; あなたがたがこんなにも早く、あなたがたをキリストの恵みの内へお招きになったかたから離れて、違った福音に落ちていくことが、わたしには不思議でならない。
１-７ which is not another gospel only there are some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. それは福音というべきものではなく、ただ、ある種の人々があなたがたをかき乱し、キリストの福音を曲げようとしているだけのことである。
１-８ But though we, or an angel from heaven, should preach unto you any gospel other than that which we preached unto you, let him be anathema. しかし、たといわたしたちであろうと、天からの御使であろうと、わたしたちが宣べ伝えた福音に反することをあなたがたに宣べ伝えるなら、その人はのろわるべきである。
１-９ As we have said before, so say I now again, if any man preacheth unto you any gospel other than that which ye received, let him be anathema. わたしたちが前に言っておいたように、今わたしは重ねて言う。もしある人が、あなたがたの受けいれた福音に反することを宣べ伝えているなら、その人はのろわるべきである。
１-１０ For am I now seeking the favor of men, or of God? or am I striving to please men? if I were still pleasing men, I should not be a servant of Christ. 今わたしは、人に喜ばれようとしているのか、それとも、神に喜ばれようとしているのか。あるいは、人の歓心を買おうと努めているのか。もし、今もなお人の歓心を買おうとしているとすれば、わたしはキリストの僕ではあるまい。
１-１１ For I make known to you, brethren, as touching the gospel which was preached by me, that it is not after man. 兄弟たちよ。あなたがたに、はっきり言っておく。わたしが宣べ伝えた福音は人間によるものではない。
１-１２ For neither did I receive it from man, nor was I taught it, but it came to me through revelation of Jesus Christ. わたしは、それを人間から受けたのでも教えられたのでもなく、ただイエス・キリストの啓示によったのである。
１-１３ For ye have heard of my manner of life in time past in the Jews’ religion, how that beyond measure I persecuted the church of God, and made havoc of it: ユダヤ教を信じていたころのわたしの行動については、あなたがたはすでによく聞いている。すなわち、わたしは激しく神の教会を迫害し、また荒しまわっていた。
１-１４ and I advanced in the Jews’ religion beyond many of mine own age among my countrymen, being more exceedingly zealous for the traditions of my fathers. そして、同国人の中でわたしと同年輩の多くの者にまさってユダヤ教に精進し、先祖たちの言伝えに対して、だれよりもはるかに熱心であった。
１-１５ But when it was the good pleasure of God, who separated me, even from my mother’s womb, and called me through his grace, ところが、母の胎内にある時からわたしを聖別し、み恵みをもってわたしをお召しになったかたが、
１-１６ to reveal his Son in me, that I might preach him among the Gentiles; straightway I conferred not with flesh and blood: 異邦人の間に宣べ伝えさせるために、御子をわたしの内に啓示して下さった時、わたしは直ちに、血肉に相談もせず、
１-１７ neither went I up to Jerusalem to them that were apostles before me: but I went away into Arabia; and again I returned unto Damascus. また先輩の使徒たちに会うためにエルサレムにも上らず、アラビヤに出て行った。それから再びダマスコに帰った。
１-１８ Then after three years I went up to Jerusalem to visit Cephas, and tarried with him fifteen days. その後三年たってから、わたしはケパをたずねてエルサレムに上り、彼のもとに十五日間、滞在した。
１-１９ But other of the apostles saw I none, save James the Lord’s brother. しかし、主の兄弟ヤコブ以外には、ほかのどの使徒にも会わなかった。
１-２０ Now touching the things which I write unto you, behold, before God, I lie not. ここに書いていることは、神のみまえで言うが、決して偽りではない。
１-２１ Then I came unto the regions of Syria and Cilicia. その後、わたしはシリヤとキリキヤとの地方に行った。
１-２２ And I was still unknown by face unto the churches of Judaea which were in Christ: しかし、キリストにあるユダヤの諸教会には、顔を知られていなかった。
１-２３ but they only heard say, He that once persecuted us now preacheth the faith of which he once made havoc; ただ彼らは、「かつて自分たちを迫害した者が、以前には撲滅しようとしていたその信仰を、今は宣べ伝えている」と聞き、
１-２４ and they glorified God in me. わたしのことで、神をほめたたえた。
