Jesus therefore six days before the passover came to Bethany, where Lazarus
was, whom Jesus raised from the dead. |
過越の祭の六日まえに、イエスはベタニヤに行かれた。そこは、イエスが死人の中からよみがえらせたラザロのいた所である。 |

So they made him a supper there: and Martha served; but Lazarus was one
of them that sat at meat with him. |
イエスのためにそこで夕食の用意がされ、マルタは給仕をしていた。イエスと一緒に食卓についていた者のうちに、ラザロも加わっていた。 |
| 12-3 |
Mary therefore took a pound of ointment of pure nard, very precious, and
anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house
was filled with the odor of the ointment. |
その時、マリヤは高価で純粋なナルドの香油一斤を持ってきて、イエスの足にぬり、自分の髪の毛でそれをふいた。すると、香油のかおりが家にいっぱいになった。 |

But Judas Iscariot, one of his disciples, that should betray him, saith, |
弟子のひとりで、イエスを裏切ろうとしていたイスカリオテのユダが言った、 |
| 12-5 |
Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred shillings, and given to
the poor? |
「なぜこの香油を三百デナリに売って、貧しい人たちに、施さなかったのか」。 |
| 12-6 |
Now this he said, not because he cared for the poor; but because he was
a thief, and having the bag took away what was put therein. |
彼がこう言ったのは、貧しい人たちに対する思いやりがあったからではなく、自分が盗人であり、財布を預かっていて、その中身をごまかしていたからであった。 |
| 12-7 |
Jesus therefore said, Suffer her to keep it against the day of my burying. |
イエスは言われた、「この女のするままにさせておきなさい。わたしの葬りの日のために、それをとっておいたのだから。 |
| 12-8 |
For the poor ye have always with you; but me ye have not always. |
貧しい人たちはいつもあなたがたと共にいるが、わたしはいつも共にいるわけではない」。 |
| 12-9 |
The common people therefore of the Jews learned that he was there: and
they came, not for Jesus’ sake only, but that they might see Lazarus also,
whom he had raised from the dead. |
大ぜいのユダヤ人たちが、そこにイエスのおられるのを知って、押しよせてきた。それはイエスに会うためだけではなく、イエスが死人のなかから、よみがえらせたラザロを見るためでもあった。 |

But the chief priests took counsel that they might put Lazarus also to
death; |
そこで祭司長たちは、ラザロも殺そうと相談した。 |
| 12-11 |
because that by reason of him many of the Jews went away, and
believed on Jesus. |
それは、ラザロのことで、多くのユダヤ人が彼らを離れ去って、イエスを信じるに至ったからである。 |
| 12-12 |
On the morrow a great multitude that had come to the feast, when they heard
that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, |
その翌日、祭にきていた大ぜいの群衆は、イエスがエルサレムにこられると聞いて、 |

took the branches of the palm trees, and went forth to meet him,
and cried out, Hosanna: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel. |
しゅろの枝を手にとり、迎えに出て行った。そして叫んだ、／「ホサナ、／主の御名によってきたる者に祝福あれ、／イスラエルの王に」。 |

And Jesus, having found a young ass, sat thereon; as it is written, |
イエスは、ろばの子を見つけて、その上に乗られた。それは |

Fear not, daughter of Zion: behold, thy King cometh, sitting on an ass’s
colt. |
「シオンの娘よ、恐れるな。見よ、あなたの王が／ろばの子に乗っておいでになる」／と書いてあるとおりであった。 |
| 12-16 |
These things understood not his disciples at the first: but when Jesus
was glorified, then remembered they that these things were written of him,
and that they had done these things unto him. |
弟子たちは初めにはこのことを悟らなかったが、イエスが栄光を受けられた時に、このことがイエスについて書かれてあり、またそのとおりに、人々がイエスに対してしたのだということを、思い起した。 |

The multitude therefore that was with him when he called Lazarus out of
the tomb, and raised him from the dead, bare witness. |
また、イエスがラザロを墓から呼び出して、死人の中からよみがえらせたとき、イエスと一緒にいた群衆が、そのあかしをした。 |
| 12-18 |
this cause also the multitude went and met him, for that they heard
that he had done this sign. |
群衆がイエスを迎えに出たのは、イエスがこのようなしるしを行われたことを、聞いていたからである。 |
| 12-19 |
The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, Behold how ye prevail nothing:
lo, the world is gone after him. |
そこで、パリサイ人たちは互に言った、「何をしてもむだだった。世をあげて彼のあとを追って行ったではないか」。 |
| 12-20 |
Now there were certain Greeks among those that went up to worship at the
feast: |
祭で礼拝するために上ってきた人々のうちに、数人のギリシヤ人がいた。 |
| 12-21 |
these therefore came to Philip, who was of Bethsaida of Galilee, and asked
him, saying, Sir, we would see Jesus. |
彼らはガリラヤのベツサイダ出であるピリポのところにきて、「君よ、イエスにお目にかかりたいのですが」と言って頼んだ。 |
| 12-22 |
Philip cometh and telleth Andrew: Andrew cometh, and Philip, and they tell
Jesus. |
ピリポはアンデレのところに行ってそのことを話し、アンデレとピリポは、イエスのもとに行って伝えた。 |
| 12-23 |
And Jesus answereth them, saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man
should be glorified. |
すると、イエスは答えて言われた、「人の子が栄光を受ける時がきた。 |
| 12-24 |
Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a grain of wheat fall into the earth
and die, it abideth by itself alone; but if it die, it beareth much fruit. |
よくよくあなたがたに言っておく。一粒の麦が地に落ちて死ななければ、それはただ一粒のままである。しかし、もし死んだなら、豊かに実を結ぶようになる。 |
| 12-25 |
He that loveth his life loseth it; and he that hateth his life in this
world shall keep it unto life eternal. |
自分の命を愛する者はそれを失い、この世で自分の命を憎む者は、それを保って永遠の命に至るであろう。 |
| 12-26 |
If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also
my servant be: if any man serve me, him will the Father honor. |
もしわたしに仕えようとする人があれば、その人はわたしに従って来るがよい。そうすれば、わたしのおる所に、わたしに仕える者もまた、おるであろう。もしわたしに仕えようとする人があれば、その人を父は重んじて下さるであろう。 |

Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this
hour. But for this cause came I unto this hour. |
今わたしは心が騒いでいる。わたしはなんと言おうか。父よ、この時からわたしをお救い下さい。しかし、わたしはこのために、この時に至ったのです。 |
| 12-28 |
Father, glorify thy name. There came therefore a voice out of
heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again. |
父よ、み名があがめられますように」。すると天から声があった、「わたしはすでに栄光をあらわした。そして、更にそれをあらわすであろう」。 |
| 12-29 |
The multitude therefore, that stood by, and heard it, said that it had
thundered: others said, An angel hath spoken to him. |
すると、そこに立っていた群衆がこれを聞いて、「雷がなったのだ」と言い、ほかの人たちは、「御使が彼に話しかけたのだ」と言った。 |
| 12-30 |
Jesus answered and said, This voice hath not come for my sake, but for
your sakes. |
イエスは答えて言われた、「この声があったのは、わたしのためではなく、あなたがたのためである。 |
| 12-31 |
Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be
cast out. |
今はこの世がさばかれる時である。今こそこの世の君は追い出されるであろう。 |
| 12-32 |
And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto myself. |
そして、わたしがこの地から上げられる時には、すべての人をわたしのところに引きよせるであろう」。 |
| 12-33 |
But this he said, signifying by what manner of death he should die. |
イエスはこう言って、自分がどんな死に方で死のうとしていたかを、お示しになったのである。 |
| 12-34 |
The multitude therefore answered him, We have heard out of the law that
the Christ abideth for ever: and how sayest thou, The Son of man must be
lifted up? who is this Son of man? |
すると群衆はイエスにむかって言った、「わたしたちは律法によって、キリストはいつまでも生きておいでになるのだ、と聞いていました。それだのに、どうして人の子は上げられねばならないと、言われるのですか。その人の子とは、だれのことですか」。 |
| 12-35 |
Jesus therefore said unto them, Yet a little while is the light among you.
Walk while ye have the light, that darkness overtake you not: and he that
walketh in the darkness knoweth not whither he goeth. |
そこでイエスは彼らに言われた、「もうしばらくの間、光はあなたがたと一緒にここにある。光がある間に歩いて、やみに追いつかれないようにしなさい。やみの中を歩く者は、自分がどこへ行くのかわかっていない。 |
| 12-36 |
While ye have the light, believe on the light, that ye may become sons
of light. These things spake Jesus, and he departed and hid himself from
them. |
光のある間に、光の子となるために、光を信じなさい」。イエスはこれらのことを話してから、そこを立ち去って、彼らから身をお隠しになった。 |
| 12-37 |
But though he had done so many signs before them, yet they believed not
on him: |
このように多くのしるしを彼らの前でなさったが、彼らはイエスを信じなかった。 |
| 12-38 |
that the word of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, which he
spake, Lord, who hath believed our report?And to whom hath the arm of the Lord
been revealed? |
それは、預言者イザヤの次の言葉が成就するためである、「主よ、わたしたちの説くところを、だれが信じたでしょうか。また、主のみ腕はだれに示されたでしょうか」。 |

For this cause they could not believe, for that Isaiah said again,

こういうわけで、彼らは信じることができなかった。イザヤはまた、こうも言った、 |

He hath blinded their eyes, and he hardened their heart; Lest they should see with their eyes, and perceive with their heart,And
should turn,And I should heal them. |
「神は彼らの目をくらまし、心をかたくなになさった。それは、彼らが目で見ず、心で悟らず、悔い改めていやされることがないためである」。 |

These things said Isaiah, because he saw his glory; and he spake of him. |
イザヤがこう言ったのは、イエスの栄光を見たからであって、イエスのことを語ったのである。 |
| 12-42 |
Nevertheless even of the rulers many believed on him; but because
of the Pharisees they did not confess it, lest they should be put out of the synagogue: |
しかし、役人たちの中にも、イエスを信じた者が多かったが、パリサイ人をはばかって、告白はしなかった。会堂から追い出されるのを恐れていたのである。 |
| 12-43 |
for they loved the glory that is of men more than the
glory that is of God. |
彼らは神のほまれよりも、人のほまれを好んだからである。 |
| 12-44 |
And Jesus cried and said, He that believeth on me, believeth not
on me, but on him that sent me. |
イエスは大声で言われた、「わたしを信じる者は、わたしを信じるのではなく、わたしをつかわされたかたを信じるのであり、 |
| 12-45 |
And he that beholdeth me beholdeth him that sent me. |
また、わたしを見る者は、わたしをつかわされたかたを見るのである。 |
| 12-46 |
I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me may not
abide in the darkness. |
わたしは光としてこの世にきた。それは、わたしを信じる者が、やみのうちにとどまらないようになるためである。 |
| 12-47 |
And if any man hear my sayings, and keep them not, I judge him not: for
I came not to judge the world, but to save the world. |
たとい、わたしの言うことを聞いてそれを守らない人があっても、わたしはその人をさばかない。わたしがきたのは、この世をさばくためではなく、この世を救うためである。 |
| 12-48 |
He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my sayings, hath one that judgeth
him: the word that I spake, the same shall judge him in the last day. |
わたしを捨てて、わたしの言葉を受けいれない人には、その人をさばくものがある。わたしの語ったその言葉が、終りの日にその人をさばくであろう。 |
| 12-49 |
For I spake not from myself; but the Father that sent me, he hath given
me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak. |
わたしは自分から語ったのではなく、わたしをつかわされた父ご自身が、わたしの言うべきこと、語るべきことをお命じになったのである。 |
| 12-50 |
And I know that his commandment is life eternal: the things
therefore which I speak, even as the Father hath said unto me, so I speak. |
わたしは、この命令が永遠の命であることを知っている。それゆえに、わたしが語っていることは、わたしの父がわたしに仰せになったことを、そのまま語っているのである」。 |
