| 13-1 |
Now before the feast of the passover, Jesus knowing that his hour
was come that he should depart out of this world unto his Father, having loved
his own that were in the world, he loved them unto the end. |
過越の祭の前に、イエスは、この世を去って父のみもとに行くべき自分の時がきたことを知り、世にいる自分の者たちを愛して、彼らを最後まで愛し通された。 |

And during supper, the devil having already put into the heart of
Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to betray him, |
夕食のとき、悪魔はすでにシモンの子イスカリオテのユダの心に、イエスを裏切ろうとする思いを入れていたが、 |

Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all the things into his hands, and
that he came forth from God, and goeth unto God, |
イエスは、父がすべてのものを自分の手にお与えになったこと、また、自分は神から出てきて、神にかえろうとしていることを思い、 |
| 13-4 |
from supper, and layeth aside his garments; and he took a towel,
and girded himself. |
夕食の席から立ち上がって、上着を脱ぎ、手ぬぐいをとって腰に巻き、 |

Then he poureth water into the basin, and began to wash the disciples’
feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded. |
それから水をたらいに入れて、弟子たちの足を洗い、腰に巻いた手ぬぐいでふき始められた。 |
| 13-6 |
So he cometh to Simon Peter. He saith unto him, Lord, dost thou wash my
feet? |
こうして、シモン・ペテロの番になった。すると彼はイエスに、「主よ、あなたがわたしの足をお洗いになるのですか」と言った。 |
| 13-7 |
Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou
shalt understand hereafter. |
イエスは彼に答えて言われた、「わたしのしていることは今あなたにはわからないが、あとでわかるようになるだろう」。 |
| 13-8 |
Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him,
If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me. |
ペテロはイエスに言った、「わたしの足を決して洗わないで下さい」。イエスは彼に答えられた、「もしわたしがあなたの足を洗わないなら、あなたはわたしとなんの係わりもなくなる」。 |

Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and
my head. |
シモン・ペテロはイエスに言った、「主よ、では、足だけではなく、どうぞ、手も頭も」。 |
| 13-10 |
saith to him, He that is bathed needeth not save to wash his feet,
but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all. |
イエスは彼に言われた、「すでにからだを洗った者は、足のほかは洗う必要がない。全身がきれいなのだから。あなたがたはきれいなのだ。しかし、みんながそうなのではない」。 |

For he knew him that should betray him; therefore said he, Ye are not all
clean. |
イエスは自分を裏切る者を知っておられた。それで、「みんながきれいなのではない」と言われたのである。 |
| 13-12 |
So when he had washed their feet, and taken his garments, and sat down
again, he said unto them, Know ye what I have done to you? |
こうして彼らの足を洗ってから、上着をつけ、ふたたび席にもどって、彼らに言われた、「わたしがあなたがたにしたことがわかるか。 |
| 13-13 |
Ye call me, Teacher, and, Lord: and ye say well; for so I am. |
あなたがたはわたしを教師、また主と呼んでいる。そう言うのは正しい。わたしはそのとおりである。 |
| 13-14 |
If I then, the Lord and the Teacher, have washed your feet, ye also ought
to wash one another’s feet. |
しかし、主であり、また教師であるわたしが、あなたがたの足を洗ったからには、あなたがたもまた、互に足を洗い合うべきである。 |
| 13-15 |
For I have given you an example, that ye also should do as I have done
to you. |
わたしがあなたがたにしたとおりに、あなたがたもするように、わたしは手本を示したのだ。 |
| 13-16 |
Verily, verily, I say unto you, a servant is not greater than his
lord; neither one that is sent greater than he that sent him. |
よくよくあなたがたに言っておく。僕はその主人にまさるものではなく、つかわされた者はつかわした者にまさるものではない。 |
| 13-17 |
If ye know these things, blessed are ye if ye do them. |
もしこれらのことがわかっていて、それを行うなら、あなたがたはさいわいである。 |
| 13-18 |
I speak not of you all: I know whom I have chosen: but that the scripture
may be fulfilled: He that eateth my bread lifted up his heel against me. |
あなたがた全部の者について、こう言っているのではない。わたしは自分が選んだ人たちを知っている。しかし、『わたしのパンを食べている者が、わたしにむかってそのかかとをあげた』とある聖書は成就されなければならない。 |

From henceforth I tell you before it come to pass, that, when it
is come to pass, ye may believe that I am he. |
そのことがまだ起らない今のうちに、あなたがたに言っておく。いよいよ事が起ったとき、わたしがそれであることを、あなたがたが信じるためである。 |
| 13-20 |
Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that receiveth whomsoever I send receiveth
me; and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me. |
よくよくあなたがたに言っておく。わたしがつかわす者を受けいれる者は、わたしを受けいれるのである。わたしを受けいれる者は、わたしをつかわされたかたを、受けいれるのである」。 |

When Jesus had thus said, he was troubled in the spirit, and testified,
and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, that one of you shall betray
me. |
イエスがこれらのことを言われた後、その心が騒ぎ、おごそかに言われた、「よくよくあなたがたに言っておく。あなたがたのうちのひとりが、わたしを裏切ろうとしている」。 |

The disciples looked one on another, doubting of whom he spake. |
弟子たちはだれのことを言われたのか察しかねて、互に顔を見合わせた。 |
| 13-23 |
There was at the table reclining in Jesus’ bosom one of his disciples,
whom Jesus loved. |
弟子たちのひとりで、イエスの愛しておられた者が、み胸に近く席についていた。 |
| 13-24 |
Simon Peter therefore beckoneth to him, and saith unto him, Tell
us who it is of whom he speaketh. |
そこで、シモン・ペテロは彼に合図をして言った、「だれのことをおっしゃったのか、知らせてくれ」。 |
| 13-25 |
He leaning back, as he was, on Jesus’ breast saith unto him, Lord, who
is it? |
その弟子はそのままイエスの胸によりかかって、「主よ、だれのことですか」と尋ねると、 |
| 13-26 |
Jesus therefore answereth, He it is, for whom I shall dip the sop,
and give it him. So when he had dipped the sop, he taketh and giveth it to
Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot. |
イエスは答えられた、「わたしが一きれの食物をひたして与える者が、それである」。そして、一きれの食物をひたしてとり上げ、シモンの子イスカリオテのユダにお与えになった。 |

And after the sop, then entered Satan into him. Jesus therefore saith unto
him, What thou doest, do quickly. |
この一きれの食物を受けるやいなや、サタンがユダにはいった。そこでイエスは彼に言われた、「しようとしていることを、今すぐするがよい」。 |
| 13-28 |
Now no man at the table knew for what intent he spake this unto him. |
席を共にしていた者のうち、なぜユダにこう言われたのか、わかっていた者はひとりもなかった。 |
| 13-29 |
For some thought, because Judas had the bag, that Jesus said unto
him, Buy what things we have need of for the feast; or, that he should give
something to the poor. |
ある人々は、ユダが金入れをあずかっていたので、イエスが彼に、「祭のために必要なものを買え」と言われたか、あるいは、貧しい者に何か施させようとされたのだと思っていた。 |

He then having received the sop went out straightway: and it was night. |
ユダは一きれの食物を受けると、すぐに出て行った。時は夜であった。 |
| 13-31 |
When therefore he was gone out, Jesus saith, Now is the Son of man glorified,
and God is glorified in him; |
さて、彼が出て行くと、イエスは言われた、「今や人の子は栄光を受けた。神もまた彼によって栄光をお受けになった。 |
| 13-32 |
and God shall glorify him in himself, and straightway shall he glorify
him. |
彼によって栄光をお受けになったのなら、神ご自身も彼に栄光をお授けになるであろう。すぐにもお授けになるであろう。 |
| 13-33 |
Little children, yet a little while I am with you. Ye shall seek me: and
as I said unto the Jews, Whither I go, ye cannot come; so now I say unto
you. |
子たちよ、わたしはまだしばらく、あなたがたと一緒にいる。あなたがたはわたしを捜すだろうが、すでにユダヤ人たちに言ったとおり、今あなたがたにも言う、『あなたがたはわたしの行く所に来ることはできない』。 |

A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another; even as I
have loved you, that ye also love one another. |
わたしは、新しいいましめをあなたがたに与える、互に愛し合いなさい。わたしがあなたがたを愛したように、あなたがたも互に愛し合いなさい。 |
| 13-35 |
By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one
to another. |
互に愛し合うならば、それによって、あなたがたがわたしの弟子であることを、すべての者が認めるであろう」。 |
| 13-36 |
Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, whither goest thou? Jesus answered, Whither
I go, thou canst not follow now; but thou shalt follow afterwards. |
シモン・ペテロがイエスに言った、「主よ、どこへおいでになるのですか」。イエスは答えられた、「あなたはわたしの行くところに、今はついて来ることはできない。しかし、あとになってから、ついて来ることになろう」。 |

Peter saith unto him, Lord, why cannot I follow thee even now? I will lay
down my life for thee. |
ペテロはイエスに言った、「主よ、なぜ、今あなたについて行くことができないのですか。あなたのためには、命も捨てます」。 |
| 13-38 |
Jesus answereth, Wilt thou lay down thy life for me? Verily,
verily, I say unto thee, The cock shall not crow, till thou hast denied me
thrice. |
イエスは答えられた、「わたしのために命を捨てると言うのか。よくよくあなたに言っておく。鶏が鳴く前に、あなたはわたしを三度知らないと言うであろう」。 |
