| 16-1 |
These things have I spoken unto you, that ye should not be caused to stumble. |
わたしがこれらのことを語ったのは、あなたがたがつまずくことのないためである。 |

They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the hour cometh, that whosoever
killeth you shall think that he offereth service unto God. |
人々はあなたがたを会堂から追い出すであろう。更にあなたがたを殺す者がみな、それによって自分たちは神に仕えているのだと思う時が来るであろう。 |

And these things will they do, because they have not known the Father,
nor me. |
彼らがそのようなことをするのは、父をもわたしをも知らないからである。 |
| 16-4 |
But these things have I spoken unto you, that when their hour is come,
ye may remember them, how that I told you. And these things I said not
unto you from the beginning, because I was with you. |
わたしがあなたがたにこれらのことを言ったのは、彼らの時がきた場合、わたしが彼らについて言ったことを、思い起させるためである。これらのことを初めから言わなかったのは、わたしがあなたがたと一緒にいたからである。 |

But now I go unto him that sent me; and none of you asketh me, Whither
goest thou? |
けれども今わたしは、わたしをつかわされたかたのところに行こうとしている。しかし、あなたがたのうち、だれも『どこへ行くのか』と尋ねる者はない。 |
| 16-6 |
But because I have spoken these things unto you, sorrow hath filled your
heart. |
かえって、わたしがこれらのことを言ったために、あなたがたの心は憂いで満たされている。 |
| 16-7 |
Nevertheless I tell you the truth: It is expedient for you that I go away;
for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I go,
I will send him unto you. |
しかし、わたしはほんとうのことをあなたがたに言うが、わたしが去って行くことは、あなたがたの益になるのだ。わたしが去って行かなければ、あなたがたのところに助け主はこないであろう。もし行けば、それをあなたがたにつかわそう。 |
| 16-8 |
And he, when he is come, will convict the world in respect of sin, and
of righteousness, and of judgment: |
それがきたら、罪と義とさばきとについて、世の人の目を開くであろう。 |
| 16-9 |
of sin, because they believe not on me; |
罪についてと言ったのは、彼らがわたしを信じないからである。 |
| 16-10 |
of righteousness, because I go to the Father, and ye behold me no more; |
義についてと言ったのは、わたしが父のみもとに行き、あなたがたは、もはやわたしを見なくなるからである。 |
| 16-11 |
of judgment, because the prince of this world hath been judged. |
さばきについてと言ったのは、この世の君がさばかれるからである。 |
| 16-12 |
I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. |
わたしには、あなたがたに言うべきことがまだ多くあるが、あなたがたは今はそれに堪えられない。 |
| 16-13 |
Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he shall guide you
into all the truth: for he shall not speak from himself; but what things soever
he shall hear, these shall he speak: and he shall declare unto you the things that are to come. |
けれども真理の御霊が来る時には、あなたがたをあらゆる真理に導いてくれるであろう。それは自分から語るのではなく、その聞くところを語り、きたるべき事をあなたがたに知らせるであろう。 |
| 16-14 |
He shall glorify me: for he shall take of mine, and shall declare
it unto you. |
御霊はわたしに栄光を得させるであろう。わたしのものを受けて、それをあなたがたに知らせるからである。 |
| 16-15 |
All things whatsoever the Father hath are mine: therefore said I,
that he taketh of mine, and shall declare it unto you. |
父がお持ちになっているものはみな、わたしのものである。御霊はわたしのものを受けて、それをあなたがたに知らせるのだと、わたしが言ったのは、そのためである。 |
| 16-16 |
A little while, and ye behold me no more; and again a little while, and
ye shall see me. |
しばらくすれば、あなたがたはもうわたしを見なくなる。しかし、またしばらくすれば、わたしに会えるであろう」。 |
| 16-17 |
Some of his disciples therefore said one to another, What is this that he saith
unto us, A little while, and ye behold me not; and again a little while,
and ye shall see me: and, Because I go to the Father? |
そこで、弟子たちのうちのある者は互に言い合った、「『しばらくすれば、わたしを見なくなる。またしばらくすれば、わたしに会えるであろう』と言われ、『わたしの父のところに行く』と言われたのは、いったい、どういうことなのであろう」。 |
| 16-18 |
They said therefore, What is this that he saith, A little while? We know
not what he saith. |
彼らはまた言った、「『しばらくすれば』と言われるのは、どういうことか。わたしたちには、その言葉の意味がわからない」。 |
| 16-19 |
Jesus perceived that they were desirous to ask him, and he said unto them,
Do ye inquire among yourselves concerning this, that I said, A little while,
and ye behold me not, and again a little while, and ye shall see me? |
イエスは、彼らが尋ねたがっていることに気がついて、彼らに言われた、「しばらくすればわたしを見なくなる、またしばらくすればわたしに会えるであろうと、わたしが言ったことで、互に論じ合っているのか。 |
| 16-20 |
Verily, verily, I say unto you, that ye shall weep and lament, but the
world shall rejoice: ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned
into joy. |
よくよくあなたがたに言っておく。あなたがたは泣き悲しむが、この世は喜ぶであろう。あなたがたは憂えているが、その憂いは喜びに変るであろう。 |
| 16-21 |
A woman when she is in travail hath sorrow, because her hour is come: but
when she is delivered of the child, she remembereth no more the anguish,
for the joy that a man is born into the world. |
女が子を産む場合には、その時がきたというので、不安を感じる。しかし、子を産んでしまえば、もはやその苦しみをおぼえてはいない。ひとりの人がこの世に生れた、という喜びがあるためである。 |
| 16-22 |
And ye therefore now have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart
shall rejoice, and your joy no one taketh away from you. |
このように、あなたがたにも今は不安がある。しかし、わたしは再びあなたがたと会うであろう。そして、あなたがたの心は喜びに満たされるであろう。その喜びをあなたがたから取り去る者はいない。 |
| 16-23 |
And in that day ye shall ask me no question. Verily, verily, I say unto
you, if ye shall ask anything of the Father, he will give it you in my
name. |
その日には、あなたがたがわたしに問うことは、何もないであろう。よくよくあなたがたに言っておく。あなたがたが父に求めるものはなんでも、わたしの名によって下さるであろう。 |
| 16-24 |
Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that
your joy may be made full. |
今までは、あなたがたはわたしの名によって求めたことはなかった。求めなさい、そうすれば、与えられるであろう。そして、あなたがたの喜びが満ちあふれるであろう。 |
| 16-25 |
These things have I spoken unto you in dark sayings: the hour cometh, when
I shall no more speak unto you in dark sayings, but shall tell you plainly
of the Father. |
わたしはこれらのことを比喩で話したが、もはや比喩では話さないで、あからさまに、父のことをあなたがたに話してきかせる時が来るであろう。 |

In that day ye shall ask in my name: and I say not unto you, that I will
pray the Father for you; |
その日には、あなたがたは、わたしの名によって求めるであろう。わたしは、あなたがたのために父に願ってあげようとは言うまい。 |

In that day ye shall ask in my name: and I say not unto you, that I will
pray the Father for you; |
父ご自身があなたがたを愛しておいでになるからである。それは、あなたがたがわたしを愛したため、また、わたしが神のみもとからきたことを信じたためである。 |
| 16-28 |
I came out from the Father, and am come into the world: again, I leave
the world, and go unto the Father. |
わたしは父から出てこの世にきたが、またこの世を去って、父のみもとに行くのである」。 |
| 16-29 |
His disciples say, Lo, now speakest thou plainly, and speakest no dark
saying. |
弟子たちは言った、「今はあからさまにお話しになって、少しも比喩ではお話しになりません。 |
| 16-30 |
Now know we that thou knowest all things, and needest not that any man
should ask thee: by this we believe that thou camest forth from God. |
あなたはすべてのことをご存じであり、だれもあなたにお尋ねする必要のないことが、今わかりました。このことによって、わたしたちはあなたが神からこられたかたであると信じます」。 |

Jesus answered them, Do ye now believe? |
イエスは答えられた、「あなたがたは今信じているのか。 |

Behold, the hour cometh, yea, is come, that ye shall be scattered,
every man to his own, and shall leave me alone: and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me. |
イエスは答えられた、「あなたがたは今信じているのか。 |
| 16-33 |
These things have I spoken unto you, that in me ye may have peace.
In the world ye have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the
world. |
これらのことをあなたがたに話したのは、わたしにあって平安を得るためである。あなたがたは、この世ではなやみがある。しかし、勇気を出しなさい。わたしはすでに世に勝っている」。 |
