| 18-1 |
When Jesus had spoken these words, he went forth with his disciples over
the brook Kidron, where was a garden, into which he entered, himself and
his disciples. |
イエスはこれらのことを語り終えて、弟子たちと一緒にケデロンの谷の向こうへ行かれた。そこには園があって、イエスは弟子たちと一緒にその中にはいられた。 |

Now Judas also, who betrayed him, knew the place: for Jesus oft-times resorted
thither with his disciples. |
イエスを裏切ったユダは、その所をよく知っていた。イエスと弟子たちとがたびたびそこで集まったことがあるからである。 |
| 18-3 |
Judas then, having received the band of soldiers, and officers from the chief priests and the Pharisees, cometh thither
with lanterns and torches and weapons. |
さてユダは、一隊の兵卒と祭司長やパリサイ人たちの送った下役どもを引き連れ、たいまつやあかりや武器を持って、そこへやってきた。 |

Jesus therefore, knowing all the things that were coming upon him, went
forth, and saith unto them, Whom seek ye? |
しかしイエスは、自分の身に起ろうとすることをことごとく承知しておられ、進み出て彼らに言われた、「だれを捜しているのか」。 |
| 18-5 |
answered him, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus saith unto them, I am he. And Judas also, who betrayed him, was standing with them. |
彼らは「ナザレのイエスを」と答えた。イエスは彼らに言われた、「わたしが、それである」。イエスを裏切ったユダも、彼らと一緒に立っていた。 |

When therefore he said unto them, I am he, they went backward, and fell to the ground. |
イエスが彼らに「わたしが、それである」と言われたとき、彼らはうしろに引きさがって地に倒れた。 |
| 18-7 |
Again therefore he asked them, Whom seek ye? And they said, Jesus of Nazareth. |
そこでまた彼らに、「だれを捜しているのか」とお尋ねになると、彼らは「ナザレのイエスを」と言った。 |
| 18-8 |
Jesus answered, I told you that I am he; if therefore ye seek me, let these go their way: |
イエスは答えられた、「わたしがそれであると、言ったではないか。わたしを捜しているのなら、この人たちを去らせてもらいたい」。 |
| 18-9 |
that the word might be fulfilled which he spake, Of those whom thou hast
given me I lost not one. |
それは、「あなたが与えて下さった人たちの中のひとりも、わたしは失わなかった」とイエスの言われた言葉が、成就するためである。 |
| 18-10 |
Simon Peter therefore having a sword drew it, and struck the high priest’s
servant, and cut off his right ear. Now the servant’s name was Malchus. |
シモン・ペテロは剣を持っていたが、それを抜いて、大祭司の僕に切りかかり、その右の耳を切り落した。その僕の名はマルコスであった。 |

Jesus therefore said unto Peter, Put up the sword into the sheath: the
cup which the Father hath given me, shall I not drink it? |
すると、イエスはペテロに言われた、「剣をさやに納めなさい。父がわたしに下さった杯は、飲むべきではないか」。 |
| 18-12 |
So the band and the chief captain, and the officers of the Jews, seized
Jesus and bound him, |
それから一隊の兵卒やその千卒長やユダヤ人の下役どもが、イエスを捕え、縛りあげて、 |
| 18-13 |
and led him to Annas first; for he was father in law to Caiaphas, who was
high priest that year. |
まずアンナスのところに引き連れて行った。彼はその年の大祭司カヤパのしゅうとであった。 |
| 18-14 |
Now Caiaphas was he that gave counsel to the Jews, that it was expedient
that one man should die for the people. |
カヤパは前に、ひとりの人が民のために死ぬのはよいことだと、ユダヤ人に助言した者であった。 |
| 18-15 |
And Simon Peter followed Jesus, and so did another
disciple. Now that disciple was known unto the high priest, and entered in with
Jesus into the court of the high priest; |
シモン・ペテロともうひとりの弟子とが、イエスについて行った。この弟子は大祭司の知り合いであったので、イエスと一緒に大祭司の中庭にはいった。 |
| 18-16 |
but Peter was standing at the door without. So the other disciple, who
was known unto the high priest, went out and spake unto her that kept the
door, and brought in Peter. |
しかし、ペテロは外で戸口に立っていた。すると大祭司の知り合いであるその弟子が、外に出て行って門番の女に話し、ペテロを内に入れてやった。 |
| 18-17 |
The maid therefore that kept the door saith unto Peter, Art thou
also one of this man’s disciples? He saith, I am not. |
すると、この門番の女がペテロに言った、「あなたも、あの人の弟子のひとりではありませんか」。ペテロは「いや、そうではない」と答えた。 |
| 18-18 |
Now the servants and the officers were standing there, having made a fire of coals; for it was cold; and they were warming themselves:
and Peter also was with them, standing and warming himself. |
僕や下役どもは、寒い時であったので、炭火をおこし、そこに立ってあたっていた。ペテロもまた彼らに交じり、立ってあたっていた。 |

The high priest therefore asked Jesus of his disciples, and of his teaching. |
大祭司はイエスに、弟子たちのことやイエスの教のことを尋ねた。 |
| 18-20 |
Jesus answered him, I have spoken openly to the world; I ever taught in
synagogues, and in the temple, where all the Jews come together; and in
secret spake I nothing. |
イエスは答えられた、「わたしはこの世に対して公然と語ってきた。すべてのユダヤ人が集まる会堂や宮で、いつも教えていた。何事も隠れて語ったことはない。 |
| 18-21 |
Why askest thou me? Ask them that have heard me, what I spake unto them: behold, these know the things which I said. |
なぜ、わたしに尋ねるのか。わたしが彼らに語ったことは、それを聞いた人々に尋ねるがよい。わたしの言ったことは、彼らが知っているのだから」。 |
| 18-22 |
And when he had said this, one of the officers standing by struck Jesus
with his hand, saying, Answerest thou the high priest so? |
イエスがこう言われると、そこに立っていた下役のひとりが、「大祭司にむかって、そのような答をするのか」と言って、平手でイエスを打った。 |
| 18-23 |
Jesus answered him, If I have spoken evil, bear witness of the evil: but
if well, why smitest thou me? |
イエスは答えられた、「もしわたしが何か悪いことを言ったのなら、その悪い理由を言いなさい。しかし、正しいことを言ったのなら、なぜわたしを打つのか」。 |
| 18-24 |
Annas therefore sent him bound unto Caiaphas the high priest. |
それからアンナスは、イエスを縛ったまま大祭司カヤパのところへ送った。 |
| 18-25 |
Now Simon Peter was standing and warming himself. They said
therefore unto him, Art thou also one of his disciples? He denied, and said, I am not. |
シモン・ペテロは、立って火にあたっていた。すると人々が彼に言った、「あなたも、あの人の弟子のひとりではないか」。彼はそれをうち消して、「いや、そうではない」と言った。 |
| 18-26 |
One of the servants of the high priest, being a kinsman of him whose ear
Peter cut off, saith, Did not I see thee in the garden with him? |
大祭司の僕のひとりで、ペテロに耳を切りおとされた人の親族の者が言った、「あなたが園であの人と一緒にいるのを、わたしは見たではないか」。 |
| 18-27 |
Peter therefore denied again: and straightway the cock crew. |
ペテロはまたそれを打ち消した。するとすぐに、鶏が鳴いた。 |
| 18-28 |
They lead Jesus therefore from Caiaphas into the Praetorium: and it was
early; and they themselves entered not into the Praetorium, that they might
not be defiled, but might eat the passover. |
それから人々は、イエスをカヤパのところから官邸につれて行った。時は夜明けであった。彼らは、けがれを受けないで過越の食事ができるように、官邸にはいらなかった。 |
| 18-29 |
Pilate therefore went out unto them, and saith, What accusation bring ye
against this man? |
そこで、ピラトは彼らのところに出てきて言った、「あなたがたは、この人に対してどんな訴えを起すのか」。 |
| 18-30 |
They answered and said unto him, If this man were not an evildoer, we should
not have delivered him up unto thee. |
彼らはピラトに答えて言った、「もしこの人が悪事をはたらかなかったなら、あなたに引き渡すようなことはしなかったでしょう」。 |
| 18-31 |
Pilate therefore said unto them, Take him yourselves, and judge him according
to your law. The Jews said unto him, It is not lawful for us to put any
man to death: |
そこでピラトは彼らに言った、「あなたがたは彼を引き取って、自分たちの律法でさばくがよい」。ユダヤ人らは彼に言った、「わたしたちには、人を死刑にする権限がありません」。 |
| 18-32 |
that the word of Jesus might be fulfilled, which he spake, signifying by
what manner of death he should die. |
これは、ご自身がどんな死にかたをしようとしているかを示すために言われたイエスの言葉が、成就するためである。 |
| 18-33 |
Pilate therefore entered again into the Praetorium, and called Jesus, and
said unto him, Art thou the King of the Jews? |
さて、ピラトはまた官邸にはいり、イエスを呼び出して言った、「あなたは、ユダヤ人の王であるか」。 |
| 18-34 |
Jesus answered, Sayest thou this of thyself, or did others tell it thee
concerning me? |
イエスは答えられた、「あなたがそう言うのは、自分の考えからか。それともほかの人々が、わたしのことをあなたにそう言ったのか」。 |
| 18-35 |
Pilate answered, Am I a Jew? Thine own nation and the chief priests delivered
thee unto me: what hast thou done? |
ピラトは答えた、「わたしはユダヤ人なのか。あなたの同族や祭司長たちが、あなたをわたしに引き渡したのだ。あなたは、いったい、何をしたのか」。 |
| 18-36 |
Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of
this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered
to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence. |
イエスは答えられた、「わたしの国はこの世のものではない。もしわたしの国がこの世のものであれば、わたしに従っている者たちは、わたしをユダヤ人に渡さないように戦ったであろう。しかし事実、わたしの国はこの世のものではない」。 |
| 18-37 |
Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou
sayest that I am a king. To this end have I been born, and to this end
am I come into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every
one that is of the truth heareth my voice. |
そこでピラトはイエスに言った、「それでは、あなたは王なのだな」。イエスは答えられた、「あなたの言うとおり、わたしは王である。わたしは真理についてあかしをするために生れ、また、そのためにこの世にきたのである。だれでも真理につく者は、わたしの声に耳を傾ける」 |

Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went
out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find no crime in him. |
ピラトはイエスに言った、「真理とは何か」。こう言って、彼はまたユダヤ人の所に出て行き、彼らに言った、「わたしには、この人になんの罪も見いだせない。 |
| 18-39 |
But ye have a custom, that I should release unto you one at the
passover: will ye therefore that I release unto you the King of the Jews? |
過越の時には、わたしがあなたがたのために、ひとりの人を許してやるのが、あなたがたのしきたりになっている。ついては、あなたがたは、このユダヤ人の王を許してもらいたいのか」。 |
| 18-40 |
They cried out therefore again, saying, Not this man, but
Barabbas. Now Barabbas was a robber.) |
すると彼らは、また叫んで「その人ではなく、バラバを」と言った。このバラバは強盗であった。 |
