After these things Jesus went away to the other side of the sea of
Galilee, which is the sea of Tiberias. |
そののち、イエスはガリラヤの海、すなわち、テベリヤ湖の向こう岸へ渡られた。 |

And a great multitude followed him, because they beheld the signs
which he did on them that were sick. |
すると、大ぜいの群衆がイエスについてきた。病人たちになさっていたしるしを見たからである。 |

And Jesus went up into the mountain, and there he sat with his
disciples. |
イエスは山に登って、弟子たちと一緒にそこで座につかれた。 |

Now the passover, the feast of the Jews, was at hand. |
時に、ユダヤ人の祭である過越が間近になっていた。 |
| 6-5 |
Jesus therefore lifting up his eyes, and seeing that a great multitude
cometh unto him, saith unto Philip, Whence are we to buy bread, that these
may eat? |
イエスは目をあげ、大ぜいの群衆が自分の方に集まって来るのを見て、ピリポに言われた、「どこからパンを買ってきて、この人々に食べさせようか」。 |

And this he said to prove him: for he himself knew what he would do. |
これはピリポをためそうとして言われたのであって、ご自分ではしようとすることを、よくご承知であった。 |

Philip answered him, Two hundred shillings’ worth of bread is not sufficient
for them, that every one may take a little. |
すると、ピリポはイエスに答えた、「二百デナリのパンがあっても、めいめいが少しずついただくにも足りますまい」。 |
| 6-8 |
One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, saith unto him, |
弟子のひとり、シモン・ペテロの兄弟アンデレがイエスに言った、 |

There is a lad here, who hath five barley loaves, and two fishes: but what
are these among so many? |
「ここに、大麦のパン五つと、さかな二ひきとを持っている子供がいます。しかし、こんなに大ぜいの人では、それが何になりましょう」。 |

Jesus said, Make the people sit down. Now there was much grass in the place.
So the men sat down, in number about five thousand. |
イエスは「人々をすわらせなさい」と言われた。その場所には草が多かった。そこにすわった男の数は五千人ほどであった。 |
| 6-11 |
Jesus therefore took the loaves; and having given thanks, he distributed
to them that were set down; likewise also of the fishes as much as they
would. |
そこで、イエスはパンを取り、感謝してから、すわっている人々に分け与え、また、さかなをも同様にして、彼らの望むだけ分け与えられた。 |

And when they were filled, he saith unto his disciples, Gather up the broken
pieces which remain over, that nothing be lost. |
人々がじゅうぶんに食べたのち、イエスは弟子たちに言われた、「少しでもむだにならないように、パンくずのあまりを集めなさい」。 |
| 6-13 |
So they gathered them up, and filled twelve baskets with broken pieces
from the five barley loaves, which remained over unto them that had eaten. |
そこで彼らが集めると、五つの大麦のパンを食べて残ったパンくずは、十二のかごにいっぱいになった。 |
| 6-14 |
When therefore the people saw the sign which he did, they said, This is
of a truth the prophet that cometh into the world. |
人々はイエスのなさったこのしるしを見て、「ほんとうに、この人こそ世にきたるべき預言者である」と言った。 |
| 6-15 |
Jesus therefore perceiving that they were about to come and take him by
force, to make him king, withdrew again into the mountain himself alone. |
イエスは人々がきて、自分をとらえて王にしようとしていると知って、ただひとり、また山に退かれた。 |
| 6-16 |
And when evening came, his disciples went down unto the sea; |
夕方になったとき、弟子たちは海ベに下り、 |
| 6-17 |
and they entered into a boat, and were going over the sea unto Capernaum.
And it was now dark, and Jesus had not yet come to them. |
舟に乗って海を渡り、向こう岸のカペナウムに行きかけた。すでに暗くなっていたのに、イエスはまだ彼らのところにおいでにならなかった。 |

And the sea was rising by reason of a great wind that blew |
その上、強い風が吹いてきて、海は荒れ出した。 |
| 6-19 |
When therefore they had rowed about five and twenty or thirty furlongs,
they behold Jesus walking on the sea, and drawing nigh unto the boat: and
they were afraid. |
四、五十丁こぎ出したとき、イエスが海の上を歩いて舟に近づいてこられるのを見て、彼らは恐れた。 |

But he saith unto them, It is I; be not afraid. |
すると、イエスは彼らに言われた、「わたしだ、恐れることはない」。 |
| 6-21 |
They were willing therefore to receive him into the boat: and straightway
the boat was at the land whither they were going. |
そこで、彼らは喜んでイエスを舟に迎えようとした。すると舟は、すぐ、彼らが行こうとしていた地に着いた。 |
| 6-22 |

その翌日、海の向こう岸に立っていた群衆は、そこに小舟が一そうしかなく、またイエスは弟子たちと一緒に小舟にお乗りにならず、ただ弟子たちだけが船出したのを見た。 |

(howbeit there came boats from Tiberias nigh unto the place where they
ate the bread after the Lord had given thanks): |
しかし、数そうの小舟がテベリヤからきて、主が感謝されたのちパンを人々に食べさせた場所に近づいた。 |
| 6-24 |
when the multitude therefore saw that Jesus was not there, neither his
disciples, they themselves got into the boats, and came to Capernaum, seeking
Jesus. |
群衆は、イエスも弟子たちもそこにいないと知って、それらの小舟に乗り、イエスをたずねてカペナウムに行った。 |

And when they found him on the other side of the sea, they said
unto him, Rabbi, when camest thou hither?

そして、海の向こう岸でイエスに出会ったので言った、「先生、いつ、ここにおいでになったのですか」。 |

イエスは答えて言われた、「よくよくあなたがたに言っておく。あなたがたがわたしを尋ねてきているのは、しるしを見たためではなく、パンを食べて満腹したからである。 |

Work not for the food which perisheth, but for the food which abideth unto
eternal life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him the Father,
even God, hath sealed. |
朽ちる食物のためではなく、永遠の命に至る朽ちない食物のために働くがよい。これは人の子があなたがたに与えるものである。父なる神は、人の子にそれをゆだねられたのである」。 |

They said therefore unto him, What must we do, that we may work the works
of God? |
そこで、彼らはイエスに言った、「神のわざを行うために、わたしたちは何をしたらよいでしょうか」。 |

Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that
ye believe on him whom he hath sent. |
イエスは彼らに答えて言われた、「神がつかわされた者を信じることが、神のわざである」。 |
| 6-30 |
They said therefore unto him, What then doest thou for a sign, that we
may see, and believe thee? what workest thou? |
彼らはイエスに言った、「わたしたちが見てあなたを信じるために、どんなしるしを行って下さいますか。どんなことをして下さいますか。 |
| 6-31 |
Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written, He
gave them bread out of heaven to eat. |
わたしたちの先祖は荒野でマナを食べました。それは『天よりのパンを彼らに与えて食べさせた』と書いてあるとおりです」。 |
| 6-32 |
Jesus therefore said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, It was
not Moses that gave you the bread out of heaven; but my Father giveth you
the true bread out of heaven. |
そこでイエスは彼らに言われた、「よくよく言っておく。天からのパンをあなたがたに与えたのは、モーセではない。天からのまことのパンをあなたがたに与えるのは、わたしの父なのである。 |

For the bread of God is that which cometh down out of heaven, and giveth
life unto the world. |
神のパンは、天から下ってきて、この世に命を与えるものである」。 |
| 6-34 |
They said therefore unto him, Lord, evermore give us this bread. |
彼らはイエスに言った、「主よ、そのパンをいつもわたしたちに下さい」。 |
| 6-35 |
Jesus said unto them. I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall
not hunger, and he that believeth on me shall never thirst. |
イエスは彼らに言われた、「わたしが命のパンである。わたしに来る者は決して飢えることがなく、わたしを信じる者は決してかわくことがない。 |
| 6-36 |
But I said unto you, that ye have seen me, and yet believe not. |
しかし、あなたがたに言ったが、あなたがたはわたしを見たのに信じようとはしない。 |
| 6-37 |
All that which the Father giveth me shall come unto me; and him that cometh
to me I will in no wise cast out. |
父がわたしに与えて下さる者は皆、わたしに来るであろう。そして、わたしに来る者を決して拒みはしない。 |
| 6-38 |
For I am come down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of
him that sent me. |
わたしが天から下ってきたのは、自分のこころのままを行うためではなく、わたしをつかわされたかたのみこころを行うためである。 |
| 6-39 |
And this is the will of him that sent me, that of all that which he hath
given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up at the last day. |
わたしをつかわされたかたのみこころは、わたしに与えて下さった者を、わたしがひとりも失わずに、終りの日によみがえらせることである。 |
| 6-40 |
For this is the will of my Father, that every one that beholdeth the Son,
and believeth on him, should have eternal life; and I will raise him up
at the last day. |
わたしの父のみこころは、子を見て信じる者が、ことごとく永遠の命を得ることなのである。そして、わたしはその人々を終りの日によみがえらせるであろう」。 |

The Jews therefore murmured concerning him, because he said, I am the bread
which came down out of heaven. |
ユダヤ人らは、イエスが「わたしは天から下ってきたパンである」と言われたので、イエスについてつぶやき始めた。 |
| 6-42 |
And they said, Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother
we know? how doth he now say, I am come down out of heaven? |
そして言った、「これはヨセフの子イエスではないか。わたしたちはその父母を知っているではないか。わたしは天から下ってきたと、どうして今いうのか」。 |

Jesus answered and said unto them, Murmur not among yourselves. |
イエスは彼らに答えて言われた、「互につぶやいてはいけない。 |
| 6-44 |
No man can come to me, except the Father that sent me draw him: and I will
raise him up in the last day. |
わたしをつかわされた父が引きよせて下さらなければ、だれもわたしに来ることはできない。わたしは、その人々を終りの日によみがえらせるであろう。 |
| 6-45 |
It is written in the prophets, And they shall all be taught of God. Every
one that hath heard from the Father, and hath learned, cometh unto me. |
預言者の書に、『彼らはみな神に教えられるであろう』と書いてある。父から聞いて学んだ者は、みなわたしに来るのである。 |
| 6-46 |
Not that any man hath seen the Father, save he that is from God, he hath
seen the Father. |
神から出た者のほかに、だれかが父を見たのではない。その者だけが父を見たのである。 |
| 6-47 |
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth hath eternal life. |
よくよくあなたがたに言っておく。信じる者には永遠の命がある。 |
| 6-48 |
I am the bread of life. |
わたしは命のパンである。 |
| 6-49 |
Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died. |
あなたがたの先祖は荒野でマナを食べたが、死んでしまった。 |
| 6-50 |
This is the bread which cometh down out of heaven, that a man may eat thereof,
and not die. |
しかし、天から下ってきたパンを食べる人は、決して死ぬことはない。 |
| 6-51 |
I am the living bread which came down out of heaven: if any man eat of
this bread, he shall live for ever: yea and the bread which I will give
is my flesh, for the life of the world. |
わたしは天から下ってきた生きたパンである。それを食べる者は、いつまでも生きるであろう。わたしが与えるパンは、世の命のために与えるわたしの肉である」。 |

The Jews therefore strove one with another, saying, How can this
man give us his flesh to eat? |
そこで、ユダヤ人らが互に論じて言った、「この人はどうして、自分の肉をわたしたちに与えて食べさせることができようか」。 |

イエスは彼らに言われた、「よくよく言っておく。人の子の肉を食べず、また、その血を飲まなければ、あなたがたの内に命はない。 |

わたしの肉を食べ、わたしの血を飲む者には、永遠の命があり、わたしはその人を終りの日によみがえらせるであろう。 |

For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. |
わたしの肉はまことの食物、わたしの血はまことの飲み物である。 |

He that eateth my flesh and drinketh my blood abideth in me, and I in him. |
わたしの肉を食べ、わたしの血を飲む者はわたしにおり、わたしもまたその人におる。 |

As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father; so he that
eateth me, he also shall live because of me. |
生ける父がわたしをつかわされ、また、わたしが父によって生きているように、わたしを食べる者もわたしによって生きるであろう。 |

This is the bread which came down out of heaven: not as the
fathers ate, and died; he that eateth this bread shall live for ever. |
天から下ってきたパンは、先祖たちが食べたが死んでしまったようなものではない。このパンを食べる者は、いつまでも生きるであろう」。 |

These things said he in the synagogue, as he taught in Capernaum. |
これらのことは、イエスがカペナウムの会堂で教えておられたときに言われたものである。 |

Many therefore of his disciples, when they heard this, said, This is a hard saying; who can hear it? |
弟子たちのうちの多くの者は、これを聞いて言った、「これは、ひどい言葉だ。だれがそんなことを聞いておられようか」。 |
| 6-61 |
But Jesus knowing in himself that his disciples murmured at this, said
unto them, Doth this cause you to stumble? |
しかしイエスは、弟子たちがそのことでつぶやいているのを見破って、彼らに言われた、「このことがあなたがたのつまずきになるのか。 |
| 6-62 |
What then if ye should behold the Son of man ascending where he was before? |
それでは、もし人の子が前にいた所に上るのを見たら、どうなるのか。 |
| 6-63 |
It is the spirit that giveth life; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words
that I have spoken unto you are spirit, and are life. |
人を生かすものは霊であって、肉はなんの役にも立たない。わたしがあなたがたに話した言葉は霊であり、また命である。 |
| 6-64 |
But there are some of you that believe not. For Jesus knew from the beginning
who they were that believed not, and who it was that should betray him. |
しかし、あなたがたの中には信じない者がいる」。イエスは、初めから、だれが信じないか、また、だれが彼を裏切るかを知っておられたのである。 |
| 6-65 |
And he said, For this cause have I said unto you, that no man can come
unto me, except it be given unto him of the Father. |
そしてイエスは言われた、「それだから、父が与えて下さった者でなければ、わたしに来ることはできないと、言ったのである」。 |
| 6-66 |
Upon this many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him. |
それ以来、多くの弟子たちは去っていって、もはやイエスと行動を共にしなかった。 |

Jesus said therefore unto the twelve, Would ye also go away? |
それ以来、多くの弟子たちは去っていって、もはやイエスと行動を共にしなかった。 |
| 6-68 |
Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the
words of eternal life. |
シモン・ペテロが答えた、「主よ、わたしたちは、だれのところに行きましょう。永遠の命の言をもっているのはあなたです。 |

And we have believed and know that thou art the Holy One of God. |
わたしたちは、あなたが神の聖者であることを信じ、また知っています」。 |

Jesus answered them, Did not I choose you the twelve, and one of you is
a devil? |
イエスは彼らに答えられた、「あなたがた十二人を選んだのは、わたしではなかったか。それだのに、あなたがたのうちのひとりは悪魔である」。 |

Now he spake of Judas the son of Simon Iscariot, for he it
was that should betray him, being one of the twelve. |
これは、イスカリオテのシモンの子ユダをさして言われたのである。このユダは、十二弟子のひとりでありながら、イエスを裏切ろうとしていた。 |
