| 14-1 |
And it came to pass, when he went into the house of one of the rulers of
the Pharisees on a sabbath to eat bread, that they were watching him. |
ある安息日のこと、食事をするために、あるパリサイ派のかしらの家にはいって行かれたが、人々はイエスの様子をうかがっていた。 |
| 14-2 |
And behold, there was before him a certain man that had the dropsy. |
するとそこに、水腫をわずらっている人が、みまえにいた。 |
| 14-3 |
And Jesus answering spake unto the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, Is it
lawful to heal on the sabbath, or not? |
イエスは律法学者やパリサイ人たちにむかって言われた、「安息日に人をいやすのは、正しいことかどうか」。 |
| 14-4 |
But they held their peace. And he took him, and healed him, and let him
go. |
彼らは黙っていた。そこでイエスはその人に手を置いていやしてやり、そしてお帰しになった。 |
| 14-5 |
And he said unto them, Which of you shall have an ass or an ox fallen into
a well, and will not straightway draw him up on a sabbath day? |
それから彼らに言われた、「あなたがたのうちで、自分のむすこか牛が井戸に落ち込んだなら、安息日だからといって、すぐに引き上げてやらない者がいるだろうか」。 |
| 14-6 |
And they could not answer again unto these things. |
彼らはこれに対して返す言葉がなかった。 |
| 14-7 |
And he spake a parable unto those that were bidden, when he marked how
they chose out the chief seats; saying unto them, |
客に招かれた者たちが上座を選んでいる様子をごらんになって、彼らに一つの譬を語られた。 |
| 14-8 |
When thou art bidden of any man to a marriage feast, sit not down in the
chief seat; lest haply a more honorable man than thou be bidden of him, |
「婚宴に招かれたときには、上座につくな。あるいは、あなたよりも身分の高い人が招かれているかも知れない。 |
| 14-9 |
and he that bade thee and him shall come and say to thee, Give
this man place; and then thou shalt begin with shame to take the lowest place. |
その場合、あなたとその人とを招いた者がきて、『このかたに座を譲ってください』と言うであろう。そのとき、あなたは恥じ入って末座につくことになるであろう。 |
| 14-10 |
But when thou art bidden, go and sit down in the lowest place; that when
he that hath bidden thee cometh, he may say to thee, Friend, go up higher:
then shalt thou have glory in the presence of all that sit at meat with
thee. |
むしろ、招かれた場合には、末座に行ってすわりなさい。そうすれば、招いてくれた人がきて、『友よ、上座の方へお進みください』と言うであろう。そのとき、あなたは席を共にするみんなの前で、面目をほどこすことになるであろう。 |
| 14-11 |
For everyone that exalteth himself shall be humbled; and he that humbleth
himself shall be exalted. |
おおよそ、自分を高くする者は低くされ、自分を低くする者は高くされるであろう」。 |
| 14-12 |
And he said to him also that had bidden him, When thou makest a dinner
or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, nor thy kinsmen, nor
rich neighbors; lest haply they also bid thee again, and a recompense be
made thee. |
また、イエスは自分を招いた人に言われた、「午餐または晩餐の席を設ける場合には、友人、兄弟、親族、金持の隣り人などは呼ばぬがよい。恐らく彼らもあなたを招きかえし、それであなたは返礼を受けることになるから。 |
| 14-13 |
But when thou makest a feast, bid the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind: |
むしろ、宴会を催す場合には、貧乏人、不具者、足なえ、盲人などを招くがよい。 |
| 14-14 |
and thou shalt be blessed; because they have not wherewith to recompense thee: for thou shalt be recompensed in the resurrection
of the just. |
そうすれば、彼らは返礼ができないから、あなたはさいわいになるであろう。正しい人々の復活の際には、あなたは報いられるであろう」。 |
| 14-15 |
And when one of them that sat at meat with him heard these things, he said
unto him, Blessed is he that shall eat bread in the kingdom of God. |
列席者のひとりがこれを聞いてイエスに「神の国で食事をする人は、さいわいです」と言った。 |
| 14-16 |
But he said unto him, A certain man made a great supper; and he bade many: |
そこでイエスが言われた、「ある人が盛大な晩餐会を催して、大ぜいの人を招いた。 |
| 14-17 |
and he sent forth his servant at supper time to say to them that
were bidden, Come; for all things are now ready. |
晩餐の時刻になったので、招いておいた人たちのもとに僕を送って、『さあ、おいでください。もう準備ができましたから』と言わせた。 |
| 14-18 |
And they all with one consent began to make excuse. The first said unto him, I have bought a field,
and I must needs go out and see it; I pray thee have me excused. |
ところが、みんな一様に断りはじめた。最初の人は、『わたしは土地を買いましたので、行って見なければなりません。どうぞ、おゆるしください』と言った。 |
| 14-19 |
And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them;
I pray thee have me excused. |
ほかの人は、『わたしは五対の牛を買いましたので、それをしらべに行くところです。どうぞ、おゆるしください』、 |
| 14-20 |
And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come. |
もうひとりの人は、『わたしは妻をめとりましたので、参ることができません』と言った。 |
| 14-21 |
And the servant came, and told his lord these things. Then the master of
the house being angry said to his servant, Go out quickly into the streets
and lanes of the city, and bring in hither the poor and maimed and blind
and lame. |
僕は帰ってきて、以上の事を主人に報告した。すると家の主人はおこって僕に言った、『いますぐに、町の大通りや小道へ行って、貧乏人、不具者、盲人、足なえなどを、ここへ連れてきなさい』。 |
| 14-22 |
And the servant said, Lord, what thou didst command is done, and
yet there is room. |
僕は言った、『ご主人様、仰せのとおりにいたしましたが、まだ席がございます』。 |
| 14-23 |
And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and
hedges, and constrain them to come in, that my house may be filled. |
主人が僕に言った、『道やかきねのあたりに出て行って、この家がいっぱいになるように、人々を無理やりにひっぱってきなさい。 |
| 14-24 |
For I say unto you, that none of those men that were bidden shall
taste of my supper. |
あなたがたに言って置くが、招かれた人で、わたしの晩餐にあずかる者はひとりもないであろう』」。 |
| 14-25 |
Now there went with him great multitudes: and he turned, and said unto
them, |
大ぜいの群衆がついてきたので、イエスは彼らの方に向いて言われた、 |
| 14-26 |
If any man cometh unto me, and hateth not his own father, and mother, and
wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also,
he cannot be my disciple. |
「だれでも、父、母、妻、子、兄弟、姉妹、さらに自分の命までも捨てて、わたしのもとに来るのでなければ、わたしの弟子となることはできない。 |
| 14-27 |
Whosoever doth not bear his own cross, and come after me, cannot be my
disciple. |
自分の十字架を負うてわたしについて来るものでなければ、わたしの弟子となることはできない。 |
| 14-28 |
For which of you, desiring to build a tower, doth not first sit
down and count the cost, whether he have wherewith to complete it? |
あなたがたのうちで、だれかが邸宅を建てようと思うなら、それを仕上げるのに足りるだけの金を持っているかどうかを見るため、まず、すわってその費用を計算しないだろうか。 |
| 14-29 |
Lest haply, when he hath laid a foundation, and is not able to finish,
all that behold begin to mock him, |
そうしないと、土台をすえただけで完成することができず、見ているみんなの人が、 |
| 14-30 |
saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish. |
『あの人は建てかけたが、仕上げができなかった』と言ってあざ笑うようになろう。 |
| 14-31 |
Or what king, as he goeth to encounter another king in war, will not sit
down first and take counsel whether he is able with ten thousand to meet
him that cometh against him with twenty thousand? |
また、どんな王でも、ほかの王と戦いを交えるために出て行く場合には、まず座して、こちらの一万人をもって、二万人を率いて向かって来る敵に対抗できるかどうか、考えて見ないだろうか。 |
| 14-32 |
Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sendeth an ambassage,
and asketh conditions of peace. |
もし自分の力にあまれば、敵がまだ遠くにいるうちに、使者を送って、和を求めるであろう。 |
| 14-33 |
So therefore whosoever he be of you that renounceth not all that he hath,
he cannot be my disciple. |
それと同じように、あなたがたのうちで、自分の財産をことごとく捨て切るものでなくては、わたしの弟子となることはできない。 |
| 14-34 |
Salt therefore is good: but if even the salt have lost its savor, wherewith
shall it be seasoned? |
塩は良いものだ。しかし、塩もききめがなくなったら、何によって塩味が取りもどされようか。 |
| 14-35 |
It is fit neither for the land nor for the dunghill: men
cast it out. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear. |
土にも肥料にも役立たず、外に投げ捨てられてしまう。聞く耳のあるものは聞くがよい」。 |
