| 23-1 |
And the whole company of them rose up, and brought him before
Pilate. |
群衆はみな立ちあがって、イエスをピラトのところへ連れて行った。 |
| 23-2 |
And they began to accuse him, saying, We found this man perverting our
nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Caesar, and saying that he himself
is Christ a king. |
そして訴え出て言った、「わたしたちは、この人が国民を惑わし、貢をカイザルに納めることを禁じ、また自分こそ王なるキリストだと、となえているところを目撃しました」。 |
| 23-3 |
And Pilate asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And he answered
him and said, Thou sayest. |
ピラトはイエスに尋ねた、「あなたがユダヤ人の王であるか」。イエスは「そのとおりである」とお答えになった。 |
| 23-4 |
And Pilate said unto the chief priests and the multitudes, I find
no fault in this man. |
そこでピラトは祭司長たちと群衆とにむかって言った、「わたしはこの人になんの罪もみとめない」。 |
| 23-5 |
But they were the more urgent, saying, He stirreth up the people, teaching
throughout all Judaea, and beginning from Galilee even unto this place. |
ところが彼らは、ますます言いつのってやまなかった、「彼は、ガリラヤからはじめてこの所まで、ユダヤ全国にわたって教え、民衆を煽動しているのです」。 |
| 23-6 |
But when Pilate heard it, he asked whether the man were a Galilaean. |
ピラトはこれを聞いて、この人はガリラヤ人かと尋ね、 |
| 23-7 |
And when he knew that he was of Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent him unto
Herod, who himself also was at Jerusalem in these days. |
そしてヘロデの支配下のものであることを確かめたので、ちょうどこのころ、ヘロデがエルサレムにいたのをさいわい、そちらへイエスを送りとどけた。 |
| 23-8 |
Now when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceeding glad: for he was of a long time
desirous to see him, because he had heard concerning him; and he hoped
to see some miracle done by him. |
ヘロデはイエスを見て非常に喜んだ。それは、かねてイエスのことを聞いていたので、会って見たいと長いあいだ思っていたし、またイエスが何か奇跡を行うのを見たいと望んでいたからである。 |
| 23-9 |
And he questioned him in many words; but he answered him nothing. |
それで、いろいろと質問を試みたが、イエスは何もお答えにならなかった。 |
| 23-10 |
And the chief priests and the scribes stood, vehemently accusing him. |
祭司長たちと律法学者たちとは立って、激しい語調でイエスを訴えた。 |
| 23-11 |
And Herod with his soldiers set him at nought, and mocked him, and arraying
him in gorgeous apparel sent him back to Pilate. |
またヘロデはその兵卒どもと一緒になって、イエスを侮辱したり嘲弄したりしたあげく、はなやかな着物を着せてピラトへ送りかえした。 |
| 23-12 |
And Herod and Pilate became friends with each other that very day: for
before they were at enmity between themselves. |
ヘロデとピラトとは以前は互に敵視していたが、この日に親しい仲になった。 |
| 23-13 |
And Pilate called together the chief priests and the rulers and the people, |
ピラトは、祭司長たちと役人たちと民衆とを、呼び集めて言った、 |
| 23-14 |
and said unto them, Ye brought unto me this man, as one that perverteth
the people: and behold, I having examined him before you, found no fault
in this man touching those things whereof ye accuse him: |
「おまえたちは、この人を民衆を惑わすものとしてわたしのところに連れてきたので、おまえたちの面前でしらべたが、訴え出ているような罪は、この人に少しもみとめられなかった。 |
| 23-15 |
no, nor yet Herod: for he sent him back unto us; and behold, nothing worthy
of death hath been done by him. |
ヘロデもまたみとめなかった。現に彼はイエスをわれわれに送りかえしてきた。この人はなんら死に当るようなことはしていないのである。 |
| 23-16 |
I will therefore chastise him, and release him. |
だから、彼をむち打ってから、ゆるしてやることにしよう」。 |
| 23-17 |
Now he must needs release unto them at the feast one
prisoner. |
〔祭ごとにピラトがひとりの囚人をゆるしてやることになっていた。〕 |
| 23-18 |
But they cried out all together, saying, Away with this man, and release
unto us Barabbas: -- |
ところが、彼らはいっせいに叫んで言った、「その人を殺せ。バラバをゆるしてくれ」。 |
| 23-19 |
one who for a certain insurrection made in the city, and for murder, was
cast into prison. |
このバラバは、都で起った暴動と殺人とのかどで、獄に投ぜられていた者である。 |
| 23-20 |
And Pilate spake unto them again, desiring to release Jesus; |
ピラトはイエスをゆるしてやりたいと思って、もう一度かれらに呼びかけた。 |
| 23-21 |
but they shouted, saying, Crucify, crucify him. |
しかし彼らは、わめきたてて「十字架につけよ、彼を十字架につけよ」と言いつづけた。 |
| 23-22 |
And he said unto them the third time, Why, what evil hath this man done?
I have found no cause of death in him: I will therefore chastise him and
release him. |
ピラトは三度目に彼らにむかって言った、「では、この人は、いったい、どんな悪事をしたのか。彼には死に当る罪は全くみとめられなかった。だから、むち打ってから彼をゆるしてやることにしよう」。 |
| 23-23 |
But they were urgent with loud voices, asking that he might be
crucified. And their voices prevailed. |
ところが、彼らは大声をあげて詰め寄り、イエスを十字架につけるように要求した。そして、その声が勝った。 |
| 23-24 |
And Pilate gave sentence that what they asked for should be done. |
ピラトはついに彼らの願いどおりにすることに決定した。 |
| 23-25 |
And he released him that for insurrection and murder had been cast into
prison, whom they asked for; but Jesus he delivered up to their will. |
そして、暴動と殺人とのかどで獄に投ぜられた者の方を、彼らの要求に応じてゆるしてやり、イエスの方は彼らに引き渡して、その意のままにまかせた。 |
| 23-26 |
And when they led him away, they laid hold upon one Simon of Cyrene, coming
from the country, and laid on him the cross, to bear it after Jesus. |
彼らがイエスをひいてゆく途中、シモンというクレネ人が郊外から出てきたのを捕えて十字架を負わせ、それをになってイエスのあとから行かせた。 |
| 23-27 |
And there followed him a great multitude of the people, and of women who
bewailed and lamented him. |
大ぜいの民衆と、悲しみ嘆いてやまない女たちの群れとが、イエスに従って行った。 |
| 23-28 |
But Jesus turning unto them said, Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for
me, but weep for yourselves, and for your children. |
イエスは女たちの方に振りむいて言われた、「エルサレムの娘たちよ、わたしのために泣くな。むしろ、あなたがた自身のため、また自分の子供たちのために泣くがよい。 |
| 23-29 |
For behold, the days are coming, in which they shall say, Blessed
are the barren, and the wombs that never bare, and the breasts that never gave
suck.
|
『不妊の女と子を産まなかった胎と、ふくませなかった乳房とは、さいわいだ』と言う日が、いまに来る。 |
| 23-30 |
Then shall they begin to say to the mountains, Fall on us; and to the hills,
Cover us. |
そのとき、人々は山にむかって、われわれの上に倒れかかれと言い、また丘にむかって、われわれにおおいかぶされと言い出すであろう。 |
| 23-31 |
For if they do these things in the green tree, what shall be done in the
dry? |
もし、生木でさえもそうされるなら、枯木はどうされることであろう」。 |
| 23-32 |
And there were also two others, malefactors, led with him to be put to
death. |
さて、イエスと共に刑を受けるために、ほかにふたりの犯罪人も引かれていった。 |
| 23-33 |
And when they came unto the place which is called The skull, there they
crucified him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand and the other
on the left. |
されこうべと呼ばれている所に着くと、人々はそこでイエスを十字架につけ、犯罪人たちも、ひとりは右に、ひとりは左に、十字架につけた。 |
| 23-34 |
And Jesus said, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And
parting his garments among them, they cast lots. |
そのとき、イエスは言われた、「父よ、彼らをおゆるしください。彼らは何をしているのか、わからずにいるのです」。人々はイエスの着物をくじ引きで分け合った。 |
| 23-35 |
And the people stood beholding. And the rulers also scoffed at him, saying,
He saved others; let him save himself, if this is the Christ of God, his
chosen. |
民衆は立って見ていた。役人たちもあざ笑って言った、「彼は他人を救った。もし彼が神のキリスト、選ばれた者であるなら、自分自身を救うがよい」。 |
| 23-36 |
And the soldiers also mocked him, coming to him, offering him vinegar, |
兵卒どももイエスをののしり、近寄ってきて酢いぶどう酒をさし出して言った、 |
| 23-37 |
and saying, If thou art the King of the Jews, save thyself. |
「あなたがユダヤ人の王なら、自分を救いなさい」。 |
| 23-38 |
And there was also a superscription over him, THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS. |
イエスの上には、「これはユダヤ人の王」と書いた札がかけてあった。 |
| 23-39 |
And one of the malefactors that were hanged railed on him, saying, Art
not thou the Christ? save thyself and us. |
十字架にかけられた犯罪人のひとりが、「あなたはキリストではないか。それなら、自分を救い、またわれわれも救ってみよ」と、イエスに悪口を言いつづけた。 |
| 23-40 |
But the other answered, and rebuking him said, Dost thou not even fear
God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation? |
もうひとりは、それをたしなめて言った、「おまえは同じ刑を受けていながら、神を恐れないのか。 |
| 23-41 |
And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this
man hath done nothing amiss. |
お互は自分のやった事のむくいを受けているのだから、こうなったのは当然だ。しかし、このかたは何も悪いことをしたのではない」。 |
| 23-42 |
And he said, Jesus, remember me when thou comest in thy kingdom. |
そして言った、「イエスよ、あなたが御国の権威をもっておいでになる時には、わたしを思い出してください」。 |
| 23-43 |
And he said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To-day shalt thou be with
me in Paradise. |
イエスは言われた、「よく言っておくが、あなたはきょう、わたしと一緒にパラダイスにいるであろう」。 |
| 23-44 |
And it was now about the sixth hour, and a darkness came over the whole
land until the ninth hour, |
時はもう昼の十二時ごろであったが、太陽は光を失い、全地は暗くなって、三時に及んだ。 |
| 23-45 |
the sun’s light failing: and the veil of the temple was rent in
the midst. |
そして聖所の幕がまん中から裂けた。 |
| 23-46 |
And Jesus, crying with a loud voice, said, Father, into thy hands I commend
my spirit: and having said this, he gave up the ghost. |
そのとき、イエスは声高く叫んで言われた、「父よ、わたしの霊をみ手にゆだねます」。こう言ってついに息を引きとられた。 |
| 23-47 |
And when the centurion saw what was done, he glorified God,
saying, Certainly this was a righteous man. |
百卒長はこの有様を見て、神をあがめ、「ほんとうに、この人は正しい人であった」と言った。 |
| 23-48 |
And all the multitudes that came together to this sight, when they beheld
the things that were done, returned smiting their breasts. |
この光景を見に集まってきた群衆も、これらの出来事を見て、みな胸を打ちながら帰って行った。 |
| 23-49 |
And all his acquaintance, and the women that followed with him from Galilee,
stood afar off, seeing these things. |
すべてイエスを知っていた者や、ガリラヤから従ってきた女たちも、遠い所に立って、これらのことを見ていた。 |
| 23-50 |
And behold, a man named Joseph, who was a councillor, a good and righteous
man |
ここに、ヨセフという議員がいたが、善良で正しい人であった。 |
| 23-51 |
(he had not consented to their counsel and deed), a man of Arimathaea, a city of the Jews, who was looking for the kingdom of
God: |
この人はユダヤの町アリマタヤの出身で、神の国を待ち望んでいた。彼は議会の議決や行動には賛成していなかった。 |
| 23-52 |
this man went to Pilate, and asked for the body of Jesus. |
この人がピラトのところへ行って、イエスのからだの引取り方を願い出て、 |
| 23-53 |
And he took it down, and wrapped it in a linen cloth, and laid him in a
tomb that was hewn in stone, where never man had yet lain. |
それを取りおろして亜麻布に包み、まだだれも葬ったことのない、岩を掘って造った墓に納めた。 |
| 23-54 |
And it was the day of the Preparation, and the sabbath drew on. |
この日は準備の日であって、安息日が始まりかけていた。 |
| 23-55 |
And the women, who had come with him out of Galilee, followed after, and
beheld the tomb, and how his body was laid. |
イエスと一緒にガリラヤからきた女たちは、あとについてきて、その墓を見、またイエスのからだが納められる様子を見とどけた。 |
| 23-56 |
And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments. And on the
sabbath they rested according to the commandment. |
そして帰って、香料と香油とを用意した。それからおきてに従って安息日を休んだ。 |
