| 6-1 |
And he went out from thence; and he cometh into his own country; and his
disciples follow him. |
イエスはそこを去って、郷里に行かれたが、弟子たちも従って行った。 |

And when the sabbath was come, he began to teach in the synagogue:
and many hearing him were astonished, saying, Whence hath this man these things?
and, What is the wisdom that is given unto this man, and what mean such mighty works wrought by his hands? |
そして、安息日になったので、会堂で教えはじめられた。それを聞いた多くの人々は、驚いて言った、「この人は、これらのことをどこで習ってきたのか。また、この人の授かった知恵はどうだろう。このような力あるわざがその手で行われているのは、どうしてか。 |

Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, and brother of James, and Joses,
and Judas, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were
offended in him. |
この人は大工ではないか。マリヤのむすこで、ヤコブ、ヨセ、ユダ、シモンの兄弟ではないか。またその姉妹たちも、ここにわたしたちと一緒にいるではないか」。こうして彼らはイエスにつまずいた。 |

And Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honor, save in his own
country, and among his own kin, and in his own house. |
イエスは言われた、「預言者は、自分の郷里、親族、家以外では、どこででも敬われないことはない」。 |
| 6-5 |
And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon
a few sick folk, and healed them. |
そして、そこでは力あるわざを一つもすることができず、ただ少数の病人に手をおいていやされただけであった。 |
| 6-6 |
And he marvelled because of their unbelief. And he went round about the
villages teaching. |
そして、彼らの不信仰を驚き怪しまれた。それからイエスは、附近の村々を巡りあるいて教えられた。 |
| 6-7 |
And he calleth unto him the twelve, and began to send them forth by two
and two; and he gave them authority over the unclean spirits; |
また十二弟子を呼び寄せ、ふたりずつつかわすことにして、彼らにけがれた霊を制する権威を与え、 |

but to go shod with sandals: and, said he, put not on two coats. |
ただわらじをはくだけで、下着も二枚は着ないように命じられた。 |

he said unto them, Wheresoever ye enter into a house, there abide
till ye depart thence. |
そして彼らに言われた、「どこへ行っても、家にはいったなら、その土地を去るまでは、そこにとどまっていなさい。 |
| 6-11 |
And whatsoever place shall not receive you, and they hear you not, as ye
go forth thence, shake off the dust that is under your feet for a testimony
unto them. |
また、あなたがたを迎えず、あなたがたの話を聞きもしない所があったなら、そこから出て行くとき、彼らに対する抗議のしるしに、足の裏のちりを払い落しなさい」。 |

And they went out, and preached that men should repent. |
そこで、彼らは出て行って、悔改めを宣べ伝え、 |
| 6-13 |
And they cast out many demons, and anointed with oil many that were sick,
and healed them. |
多くの悪霊を追い出し、大ぜいの病人に油をぬっていやした。 |
| 6-14 |
And king Herod heard thereof; for his name had become
known: and he said, John the Baptizer is risen from the dead, and therefore do
these powers work in him. |
さて、イエスの名が知れわたって、ヘロデ王の耳にはいった。ある人々は「バプテスマのヨハネが、死人の中からよみがえってきたのだ。それで、あのような力が彼のうちに働いているのだ」と言い、 |

But others said, It is Elijah. And others said, It is a
prophet, even as one of the prophets. |
他の人々は「彼はエリヤだ」と言い、また他の人々は「昔の預言者のような預言者だ」と言った。 |
| 6-16 |
But Herod, when he heard thereof, said, John, whom I beheaded, he is risen. |
ところが、ヘロデはこれを聞いて、「わたしが首を切ったあのヨハネがよみがえったのだ」と言った。 |
| 6-17 |
For Herod himself had sent forth and laid hold upon John, and bound him
in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife; for he had
married her. |
このヘロデは、自分の兄弟ピリポの妻ヘロデヤをめとったが、そのことで、人をつかわし、ヨハネを捕えて獄につないだ。 |

For John said unto Herod, It is not lawful for thee to have thy brother’s
wife. |
それは、ヨハネがヘロデに、「兄弟の妻をめとるのは、よろしくない」と言ったからである。 |
| 6-19 |
And Herodias set herself against him, and desired to kill him; and she
could not; |
そこで、ヘロデヤはヨハネを恨み、彼を殺そうと思っていたが、できないでいた。 |
| 6-20 |
for Herod feared John, knowing that he was a righteous and holy man, and
kept him safe. And when he heard him, he was much perplexed; and he heard
him gladly. |
それはヘロデが、ヨハネは正しくて聖なる人であることを知って、彼を恐れ、彼に保護を加え、またその教を聞いて非常に悩みながらも、なお喜んで聞いていたからである。 |

And when a convenient day was come, that Herod on his birthday made a supper
to his lords, and the high captains, and the chief men of Galilee; |
ところが、よい機会がきた。ヘロデは自分の誕生日の祝に、高官や将校やガリラヤの重立った人たちを招いて宴会を催したが、 |
| 6-22 |
and when the daughter of Herodias herself came in and danced, she pleased
Herod and them that sat at meat with him; and the king said unto the damsel,
Ask of me whatsoever thou wilt, and I will give it thee. |
そこへ、このヘロデヤの娘がはいってきて舞をまい、ヘロデをはじめ列座の人たちを喜ばせた。そこで王はこの少女に「ほしいものはなんでも言いなさい。あなたにあげるから」と言い、 |

And he sware unto her, Whatsoever thou shalt ask of me, I will give it
thee, unto the half of my kingdom. |
さらに「ほしければ、この国の半分でもあげよう」と誓って言った。 |
| 6-24 |
And she went out, and said unto her mother, What shall I ask? And she said,
The head of John the Baptizer. |
そこで少女は座をはずして、母に「何をお願いしましょうか」と尋ねると、母は「バプテスマのヨハネの首を」と答えた。 |
| 6-25 |
she came in straightway with haste unto the king, and asked, saying,
I will that thou forthwith give me on a platter the head of John the Baptist. |
するとすぐ、少女は急いで王のところに行って願った、「今すぐに、バプテスマのヨハネの首を盆にのせて、それをいただきとうございます」。 |
| 6-26 |
And the king was exceeding sorry; but for the sake of his oaths, and of
them that sat at meat, he would not reject her. |
王は非常に困ったが、いったん誓ったのと、また列座の人たちの手前、少女の願いを退けることを好まなかった。 |
| 6-27 |
And straightway the king sent forth a soldier of his guard, and commanded
to bring his head: and he went and beheaded him in the prison, |
そこで、王はすぐに衛兵をつかわし、ヨハネの首を持って来るように命じた。衛兵は出て行き、獄中でヨハネの首を切り、 |
| 6-28 |
and brought his head on a platter, and gave it to the damsel; and the damsel
gave it to her mother. |
盆にのせて持ってきて少女に与え、少女はそれを母にわたした。 |
| 6-29 |
And when his disciples heard thereof, they came and took up his corpse, and laid it in a tomb. |
ヨハネの弟子たちはこのことを聞き、その死体を引き取りにきて、墓に納めた。 |
| 6-30 |
And the apostles gather themselves together unto Jesus; and they told him
all things, whatsoever they had done, and whatsoever they had taught. |
さて、使徒たちはイエスのもとに集まってきて、自分たちがしたことや教えたことを、みな報告した。 |
| 6-31 |
he saith unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place,
and rest a while. For there were many coming and going, and they had no
leisure so much as to eat. |
するとイエスは彼らに言われた、「さあ、あなたがたは、人を避けて寂しい所へ行って、しばらく休むがよい」。それは、出入りする人が多くて、食事をする暇もなかったからである。 |
| 6-32 |
And they went away in the boat to a desert place apart. |
そこで彼らは人を避け、舟に乗って寂しい所へ行った。 |
| 6-33 |
And the people saw them going, and many knew them, and they ran together there on foot from all the cities, and outwent
them. |
ところが、多くの人々は彼らが出かけて行くのを見、それと気づいて、方々の町々からそこへ、一せいに駆けつけ、彼らより先に着いた。 |
| 6-34 |
And he came forth and saw a great multitude, and he had compassion on them,
because they were as sheep not having a shepherd: and he began to teach
them many things. |
イエスは舟から上がって大ぜいの群衆をごらんになり、飼う者のない羊のようなその有様を深くあわれんで、いろいろと教えはじめられた。 |
| 6-35 |
And when the day was now far spent, his disciples came unto him, and said,
The place is desert, and the day is now far spent; |
ところが、はや時もおそくなったので、弟子たちはイエスのもとにきて言った、「ここは寂しい所でもあり、もう時もおそくなりました。 |
| 6-36 |
send them away, that they may go into the country and villages
round about, and buy themselves somewhat to eat. |
みんなを解散させ、めいめいで何か食べる物を買いに、まわりの部落や村々へ行かせてください」。 |
| 6-37 |
But he answered and said unto them, Give ye them to eat. And they say unto
him, Shall we go and buy two hundred shillings’ worth of bread, and give
them to eat? |
イエスは答えて言われた、「あなたがたの手で食物をやりなさい」。弟子たちは言った、「わたしたちが二百デナリものパンを買ってきて、みんなに食べさせるのですか」。 |
| 6-38 |
And he saith unto them, How many loaves have ye? go and see. And when they knew, they say, Five, and two fishes. |
するとイエスは言われた。「パンは幾つあるか。見てきなさい」。彼らは確かめてきて、「五つあります。それに魚が二ひき」と言った。 |
| 6-39 |
And he commanded them that all should sit down by companies upon the green
grass. |
そこでイエスは、みんなを組々に分けて、青草の上にすわらせるように命じられた。 |
| 6-40 |
And they sat down in ranks, by hundreds, and by fifties. |
人々は、あるいは百人ずつ、あるいは五十人ずつ、列をつくってすわった。 |
| 6-41 |
And he took the five loaves and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven,
he blessed, and brake the loaves; and he gave to the disciples to set before
them; and the two fishes divided he among them all. |
それから、イエスは五つのパンと二ひきの魚とを手に取り、天を仰いでそれを祝福し、パンをさき、弟子たちにわたして配らせ、また、二ひきの魚もみんなにお分けになった。 |
| 6-42 |
And they all ate, and were filled. |
みんなの者は食べて満腹した。 |
| 6-43 |
And they took up broken pieces, twelve basketfuls, and also of the fishes. |
そこで、パンくずや魚の残りを集めると、十二のかごにいっぱいになった。 |
| 6-44 |
And they that ate the loaves were five thousand men. |
パンを食べた者は男五千人であった。 |
| 6-45 |
And straightway he constrained his disciples to enter into the
boat, and to go before him unto the other side to Bethsaida, while he
himself sendeth the multitude away. |
それからすぐ、イエスは自分で群衆を解散させておられる間に、しいて弟子たちを舟に乗り込ませ、向こう岸のベツサイダへ先におやりになった。 |
| 6-46 |
And after he had taken leave of them, he departed into the mountain to
pray. |
そして群衆に別れてから、祈るために山へ退かれた。 |
| 6-47 |
And when even was come, the boat was in the midst of the sea, and he alone
on the land. |
夕方になったとき、舟は海のまん中に出ており、イエスだけが陸地におられた。 |
| 6-48 |
And seeing them distressed in rowing, for the wind was contrary unto them,
about the fourth watch of the night he cometh unto them, walking on the
sea; and he would have passed by them: |
ところが逆風が吹いていたために、弟子たちがこぎ悩んでいるのをごらんになって、夜明けの四時ごろ、海の上を歩いて彼らに近づき、そのそばを通り過ぎようとされた。 |
| 6-49 |
but they, when they saw him walking on the sea, supposed that it was a
ghost, and cried out; |
彼らはイエスが海の上を歩いておられるのを見て、幽霊だと思い、大声で叫んだ。 |
| 6-50 |
for they all saw him, and were troubled. But he straightway spake with
them, and saith unto them, Be of good cheer: it is I; be not afraid. |
みんなの者がそれを見て、おじ恐れたからである。しかし、イエスはすぐ彼らに声をかけ、「しっかりするのだ。わたしである。恐れることはない」と言われた。 |
| 6-51 |
And he went up unto them into the boat; and the wind ceased: and they were
sore amazed in themselves; |
そして、彼らの舟に乗り込まれると、風はやんだ。彼らは心の中で、非常に驚いた。 |
| 6-52 |
for they understood not concerning the loaves, but their heart was hardened. |
先のパンのことを悟らず、その心が鈍くなっていたからである。 |
| 6-53 |
And when they had crossed over, they came to the land unto
Gennesaret, and moored to the shore. |
彼らは海を渡り、ゲネサレの地に着いて舟をつないだ。 |
| 6-54 |
And when they were come out of the boat, straightway the
people knew him, |
そして舟からあがると、人々はすぐイエスと知って、 |
| 6-55 |
and ran round about that whole region, and began to carry about on their
beds those that were sick, where they heard he was. |
その地方をあまねく駆けめぐり、イエスがおられると聞けば、どこへでも病人を床にのせて運びはじめた。 |
| 6-56 |
And wheresoever he entered, into villages, or into cities, or
into the country, they laid the sick in the marketplaces, and besought him that
they might touch if it were but the border of his garment: and as many as
touched him were made whole. |
そして、村でも町でも部落でも、イエスがはいって行かれる所では、病人たちをその広場におき、せめてその上着のふさにでも、さわらせてやっていただきたいと、お願いした。そしてさわった者は皆いやされた。 |
