And seeing the multitudes, he went up into the mountain: and when he had
sat down, his disciples came unto him: |
イエスはこの群衆を見て、山に登り、座につかれると、弟子たちがみもとに近寄ってきた。 |

and he opened his mouth and taught them, saying, |
そこで、イエスは口を開き、彼らに教えて言われた。 |
| 5-3 |
Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of
heaven. |
「こころの貧しい人たちは、さいわいである、天国は彼らのものである。 |
| 5-4 |
Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. |
悲しんでいる人たちは、さいわいである、彼らは慰められるであろう。 |
| 5-5 |
Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. |
柔和な人たちは、さいわいである、彼らは地を受けつぐであろう。 |
| 5-6 |
Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after righteousness: for
they shall be filled. |
義に飢えかわいている人たちは、さいわいである、彼らは飽き足りるようになるであろう。 |
| 5-7 |
Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. |
あわれみ深い人たちは、さいわいである、彼らはあわれみを受けるであろう。 |
| 5-8 |
Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. |
心の清い人たちは、さいわいである、彼らは神を見るであろう。 |
| 5-9 |
Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called sons of God. |
平和をつくり出す人たちは、さいわいである、彼らは神の子と呼ばれるであろう。 |
| 5-10 |
Blessed are they that have been persecuted for righteousness’
sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. |
義のために迫害されてきた人たちは、さいわいである、天国は彼らのものである。 |
| 5-11 |
Blessed are ye when men shall reproach you, and persecute you, and say all manner of evil against
you falsely, for my sake. |
わたしのために人々があなたがたをののしり、また迫害し、あなたがたに対し偽って様々の悪口を言う時には、あなたがたは、さいわいである。 |
| 5-12 |
Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in
heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets that were before you. |
喜び、よろこべ、天においてあなたがたの受ける報いは大きい。あなたがたより前の預言者たちも、同じように迫害されたのである。 |
| 5-13 |
Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost its savor, wherewith
shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast
out and trodden under foot of men. |
あなたがたは、地の塩である。もし塩のききめがなくなったら、何によってその味が取りもどされようか。もはや、なんの役にも立たず、ただ外に捨てられて、人々にふみつけられるだけである。 |
| 5-14 |
Ye are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hid. |
あなたがたは、世の光である。山の上にある町は隠れることができない。 |
| 5-15 |
Neither do men light a lamp, and put it under the bushel, but on the stand; and it shineth
unto all that are in the house. |
また、あかりをつけて、それを枡の下におく者はいない。むしろ燭台の上において、家の中のすべてのものを照させるのである。 |
| 5-16 |
Even so let your light shine before men; that they may see your
good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven. |
そのように、あなたがたの光を人々の前に輝かし、そして、人々があなたがたのよいおこないを見て、天にいますあなたがたの父をあがめるようにしなさい。 |
| 5-17 |
Think not that I came to destroy the law or the prophets: I came not to
destroy, but to fulfil. |
わたしが律法や預言者を廃するためにきた、と思ってはならない。廃するためではなく、成就するためにきたのである。 |
| 5-18 |
For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or
one tittle shall in no wise pass away from the law, till all things be
accomplished. |
よく言っておく。天地が滅び行くまでは、律法の一点、一画もすたることはなく、ことごとく全うされるのである。 |
| 5-19 |
Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall
teach men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever
shall do and teach them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. |
それだから、これらの最も小さいいましめの一つでも破り、またそうするように人に教えたりする者は、天国で最も小さい者と呼ばれるであろう。しかし、これをおこないまたそう教える者は、天国で大いなる者と呼ばれるであろう。 |
| 5-20 |
For I say unto you, that except your righteousness shall exceed
the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no wise enter
into the kingdom of heaven. |
わたしは言っておく。あなたがたの義が律法学者やパリサイ人の義にまさっていなければ、決して天国に、はいることはできない。 |
| 5-21 |
Ye have heard that it was said to them of old time, Thou shalt not
kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment: |
昔の人々に『殺すな。殺す者は裁判を受けねばならない』と言われていたことは、あなたがたの聞いているところである。 |
| 5-22 |
but I say unto you, that every one who is angry with his brother shall
be in danger of the judgment; and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca,
shall be in danger of the council; and whosoever shall say, Thou fool,
shall be in danger of the hell of fire. |
しかし、わたしはあなたがたに言う。兄弟に対して怒る者は、だれでも裁判を受けねばならない。兄弟にむかって愚か者と言う者は、議会に引きわたされるであろう。また、ばか者と言う者は、地獄の火に投げ込まれるであろう。 |
| 5-23 |
If therefore thou art offering thy gift at the altar, and there rememberest
that thy brother hath aught against thee, |
だから、祭壇に供え物をささげようとする場合、兄弟が自分に対して何かうらみをいだいていることを、そこで思い出したなら、 |
| 5-24 |
leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way, first be reconciled
to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift. |
その供え物を祭壇の前に残しておき、まず行ってその兄弟と和解し、それから帰ってきて、供え物をささげることにしなさい。 |
| 5-25 |
Agree with thine adversary quickly, while thou art with him in the way;
lest haply the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver
thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison. |
あなたを訴える者と一緒に道を行く時には、その途中で早く仲直りをしなさい。そうしないと、その訴える者はあなたを裁判官にわたし、裁判官は下役にわたし、そして、あなたは獄に入れられるであろう。 |
| 5-26 |
Verily I say unto thee, thou shalt by no means come out thence,
till thou have paid the last farthing. |
よくあなたに言っておく。最後の一コドラントを支払ってしまうまでは、決してそこから出てくることはできない。 |

Ye have heard that it was said, Thou shalt not commit adultery: |
『姦淫するな』と言われていたことは、あなたがたの聞いているところである。 |
| 5-28 |
but I say unto you, that every one that looketh on a woman to lust after
her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart. |
しかし、わたしはあなたがたに言う。だれでも、情欲をいだいて女を見る者は、心の中ですでに姦淫をしたのである。 |
| 5-29 |
And if thy right eye causeth thee to stumble, pluck it out, and cast it
from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should
perish, and not thy whole body be cast into hell. |
もしあなたの右の目が罪を犯させるなら、それを抜き出して捨てなさい。五体の一部を失っても、全身が地獄に投げ入れられない方が、あなたにとって益である。 |
| 5-30 |
And if thy right hand causeth thee to stumble, cut it off, and cast it

It was said also, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a
writing of divorcement: |
また『妻を出す者は離縁状を渡せ』と言われている。 |
| 5-32 |
but I say unto you, that every one that putteth away his wife,
saving for the cause of fornication, maketh her an adulteress: and whosoever
shall marry her when she is put away committeth adultery. |
しかし、わたしはあなたがたに言う。だれでも、不品行以外の理由で自分の妻を出す者は、姦淫を行わせるのである。また出された女をめとる者も、姦淫を行うのである。 |
| 5-33 |
Again, ye have heard that it was said to them of old time, Thou shalt not
forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths: |
また昔の人々に『いつわり誓うな、誓ったことは、すべて主に対して果せ』と言われていたことは、あなたがたの聞いているところである。 |
| 5-34 |
but I say unto you, swear not at all; neither by the heaven, for
it is the throne of God; |
しかし、わたしはあなたがたに言う。いっさい誓ってはならない。天をさして誓うな。そこは神の御座であるから。 |
| 5-35 |
nor by the earth, for it is the footstool of his feet; nor by
Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King. |
また地をさして誓うな。そこは神の足台であるから。またエルサレムをさして誓うな。それは『大王の都』であるから。 |
| 5-36 |
Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, for thou canst not make one hair
white or black. |
また、自分の頭をさして誓うな。あなたは髪の毛一すじさえ、白くも黒くもすることができない。 |
| 5-37 |
But let your speech be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: and whatsoever is more
than these is of the evil one. |
あなたがたの言葉は、ただ、しかり、しかり、否、否、であるべきだ。それ以上に出ることは、悪から来るのである。 |
| 5-38 |
Ye have heard that it was said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth: |
『目には目を、歯には歯を』と言われていたことは、あなたがたの聞いているところである。 |

but I say unto you, resist not him that is evil: but whosoever smiteth
thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also. |
しかし、わたしはあなたがたに言う。悪人に手向かうな。もし、だれかがあなたの右の頬を打つなら、ほかの頬をも向けてやりなさい。 |
| 5-40 |
And if any man would go to law with thee, and take away thy coat, let him
have thy cloak also. |
あなたを訴えて、下着を取ろうとする者には、上着をも与えなさい。 |
| 5-41 |
And whosoever shall compel thee to go one mile, go with him two. |
もし、だれかが、あなたをしいて一マイル行かせようとするなら、その人と共に二マイル行きなさい。 |
| 5-42 |
Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of
thee turn not thou away. |
求める者には与え、借りようとする者を断るな。 |
| 5-43 |
Ye have heard that it was said, Thou shalt love thy neighbor, and hate
thine enemy: |
『隣り人を愛し、敵を憎め』と言われていたことは、あなたがたの聞いているところである。 |
| 5-44 |
but I say unto you, love your enemies, and pray for them that persecute
you; |
しかし、わたしはあなたがたに言う。敵を愛し、迫害する者のために祈れ。 |
| 5-45 |
that ye may be sons of your Father who is in heaven: for he maketh his
sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sendeth rain on the just and
the unjust. |
こうして、天にいますあなたがたの父の子となるためである。天の父は、悪い者の上にも良い者の上にも、太陽をのぼらせ、正しい者にも正しくない者にも、雨を降らして下さるからである。 |
| 5-46 |
For if ye love them that love you, what reward have ye? do not
even the publicans the same?

あなたがたが自分を愛する者を愛したからとて、なんの報いがあろうか。そのようなことは取税人でもするではないか。 |
| 5-47 |
And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than
others? do not even the Gentiles the same? |
兄弟だけにあいさつをしたからとて、なんのすぐれた事をしているだろうか。そのようなことは異邦人でもしているではないか。 |
| 5-48 |
Ye therefore shall be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

それだから、あなたがたの天の父が完全であられるように、あなたがたも完全な者となりなさい。 |
