| 6-1 |
Take heed that ye do not your righteousness before men, to be seen of them:
else ye have no reward with your Father who is in heaven. |
自分の義を、見られるために人の前で行わないように、注意しなさい。もし、そうしないと、天にいますあなたがたの父から報いを受けることがないであろう。 |
| 6-2 |
When therefore thou doest alms, sound not a trumpet before thee,
as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have
glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have received their reward. |
だから、施しをする時には、偽善者たちが人にほめられるため会堂や町の中でするように、自分の前でラッパを吹きならすな。よく言っておくが、彼らはその報いを受けてしまっている。 |

But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand
doeth: |
あなたは施しをする場合、右の手のしていることを左の手に知らせるな。 |

that thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father who seeth in
secret shall recompense thee. |
それは、あなたのする施しが隠れているためである。すると、隠れた事を見ておられるあなたの父は、報いてくださるであろう。 |
| 6-5 |
And when ye pray, ye shall not be as the hypocrites: for they love to stand
and pray in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they
may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have received their reward. |
また祈る時には、偽善者たちのようにするな。彼らは人に見せようとして、会堂や大通りのつじに立って祈ることを好む。よく言っておくが、彼らはその報いを受けてしまっている。 |

But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thine inner chamber, and having
shut thy door, pray to thy Father who is in secret, and thy Father who
seeth in secret shall recompense thee. |
あなたは祈る時、自分のへやにはいり、戸を閉じて、隠れた所においでになるあなたの父に祈りなさい。すると、隠れた事を見ておられるあなたの父は、報いてくださるであろう。 |

And in praying use not vain repetitions, as the Gentiles do: for
they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. |
また、祈る場合、異邦人のように、くどくどと祈るな。彼らは言葉かずが多ければ、聞きいれられるものと思っている。 |
| 6-8 |
Be not therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye
have need of, before ye ask him. |
だから、彼らのまねをするな。あなたがたの父なる神は、求めない先から、あなたがたに必要なものはご存じなのである。 |
| 6-9 |
After this manner therefore pray ye. Our Father who art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy name. |
だから、あなたがたはこう祈りなさい、天にいますわれらの父よ、御名があがめられますように。 |
| 6-10 |
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so on earth. |
御国がきますように。みこころが天に行われるとおり、地にも行われますように。 |
| 6-11 |
Give us this day our daily bread. |
わたしたちの日ごとの食物を、きょうもお与えください。 |
| 6-12 |
And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. |
わたしたちに負債のある者をゆるしましたように、わたしたちの負債をもおゆるしください。 |
| 6-13 |
And bring us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil
one. |
わたしたちを試みに会わせないで、悪しき者からお救いください。 |
| 6-14 |
For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will
also forgive you.

もしも、あなたがたが、人々のあやまちをゆるすならば、あなたがたの天の父も、あなたがたをゆるして下さるであろう。 |
| 6-15 |
But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your
Father forgive your trespasses. |
もし人をゆるさないならば、あなたがたの父も、あなたがたのあやまちをゆるして下さらないであろう。 |
| 6-16 |
Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance:
for they disfigure their faces, that they may be seen of men to fast. Verily
I say unto you, They have received their reward. |
また断食をする時には、偽善者がするように、陰気な顔つきをするな。彼らは断食をしていることを人に見せようとして、自分の顔を見苦しくするのである。よく言っておくが、彼らはその報いを受けてしまっている。 |

But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thy head, and wash thy face; |
あなたがたは断食をする時には、自分の頭に油を塗り、顔を洗いなさい。 |
| 6-18 |
that thou be not seen of men to fast, but of thy Father who is in
secret: and thy Father, who seeth in secret, shall recompense thee. |
それは断食をしていることが人に知れないで、隠れた所においでになるあなたの父に知られるためである。すると、隠れた事を見ておられるあなたの父は、報いて下さるであろう。 |
| 6-19 |
Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon the earth, where moth and rust
consume, and where thieves break through and steal: |
あなたがたは自分のために、虫が食い、さびがつき、また、盗人らが押し入って盗み出すような地上に、宝をたくわえてはならない。 |
| 6-20 |
but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust
doth consume, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: |
むしろ自分のため、虫も食わず、さびもつかず、また、盗人らが押し入って盗み出すこともない天に、宝をたくわえなさい。 |
| 6-21 |
but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust
doth consume, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: |
あなたの宝のある所には、心もあるからである。 |
| 6-22 |
The lamp of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy
whole body shall be full of light. |
目はからだのあかりである。だから、あなたの目が澄んでおれば、全身も明るいだろう。 |
| 6-23 |
But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If
therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is the darkness! |
しかし、あなたの目が悪ければ、全身も暗いだろう。だから、もしあなたの内なる光が暗ければ、その暗さは、どんなであろう。 |
| 6-24 |
No man can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one, and love
the other; or else he will hold to one, and despise the other. Ye cannot
serve God and mammon. |
だれも、ふたりの主人に兼ね仕えることはできない。一方を憎んで他方を愛し、あるいは、一方に親しんで他方をうとんじるからである。あなたがたは、神と富とに兼ね仕えることはできない。 |
| 6-25 |
Therefore I say unto you, be not anxious for your life, what ye
shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on.
Is not the life more than the food, and the body than the raiment? |
それだから、あなたがたに言っておく。何を食べようか、何を飲もうかと、自分の命のことで思いわずらい、何を着ようかと自分のからだのことで思いわずらうな。命は食物にまさり、からだは着物にまさるではないか。 |

Therefore I say unto you, be not anxious for your life, what ye
shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on.
Is not the life more than the food, and the body than the raiment? |
空の鳥を見るがよい。まくことも、刈ることもせず、倉に取りいれることもしない。それだのに、あなたがたの天の父は彼らを養っていて下さる。あなたがたは彼らよりも、はるかにすぐれた者ではないか。 |
| 6-27 |
And which of you by being anxious can add one cubit unto the
measure of his life? |
あなたがたのうち、だれが思いわずらったからとて、自分の寿命をわずかでも延ばすことができようか。 |
| 6-28 |
And why are ye anxious concerning raiment? Consider the lilies of the field,
how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: |
また、なぜ、着物のことで思いわずらうのか。野の花がどうして育っているか、考えて見るがよい。働きもせず、紡ぎもしない。 |
| 6-29 |
yet I say unto you, that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed
like one of these. |
しかし、あなたがたに言うが、栄華をきわめた時のソロモンでさえ、この花の一つほどにも着飾ってはいなかった。 |
| 6-30 |
But if God doth so clothe the grass of the field, which to-day is,
and to-morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe
you, O ye of little faith?

きょうは生えていて、あすは炉に投げ入れられる野の草でさえ、神はこのように装って下さるのなら、あなたがたに、それ以上よくしてくださらないはずがあろうか。ああ、信仰の薄い者たちよ。 |
| 6-31 |
Be not therefore anxious, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we
drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? |
だから、何を食べようか、何を飲もうか、あるいは何を着ようかと言って思いわずらうな。 |
| 6-32 |
For after all these things do the Gentiles seek; for your heavenly Father
knoweth that ye have need of all these things. |
これらのものはみな、異邦人が切に求めているものである。あなたがたの天の父は、これらのものが、ことごとくあなたがたに必要であることをご存じである。 |
| 6-33 |
But seek ye first his kingdom, and his righteousness; and all these things
shall be added unto you. |
まず神の国と神の義とを求めなさい。そうすれば、これらのものは、すべて添えて与えられるであろう。 |
| 6-34 |
Be not therefore anxious for the morrow: for the morrow will be
anxious for itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof. |
だから、あすのことを思いわずらうな。あすのことは、あす自身が思いわずらうであろう。一日の苦労は、その日一日だけで十分である。 |
