Now it came to pass on the third day, that Esther put on her royal apparel, and stood in the inner court of the king’s house, over against the king’s house: and the king sat upon his royal throne in the royal house, over against the entrance of the house. |
三日目にエステルは王妃の服を着、王宮の内庭に入り、王の広間にむかって立った。王は王宮の玉座に座して王宮の入口にむかっていたが、 |

And it was so, when the king saw Esther the queen standing in the court, that she obtained favor in his sight; and the king held out to Esther the golden sceptre that was in his hand. So Esther drew near, and touched the top of the sceptre. |
王妃エステルが庭に立っているのを見て彼女に恵みを示し、その手にある金の笏をエステルの方に伸ばしたので、エステルは進みよってその笏の頭にさわった。 |

Then said the king unto her, What wilt thou, queen Esther? and what is thy request? it shall be given thee even to the half of the kingdom. |
王は彼女に言った、「王妃エステルよ、何を求めるのか。あなたの願いは何か。国の半ばでもあなたに与えよう」。 |
| 5-4 |
And Esther said, If it seem good unto the king, let the king and Haman come this day unto the banquet that I have prepared for him. |
エステルは言った、「もし王がよしとされるならば、きょうわたしが王のために設けた酒宴に、ハマンとご一緒にお臨みください」。 |

Then the king said, Cause Haman to make haste, that it may be done as Esther hath said. So the king and Haman came to the banquet that Esther had prepared. |
そこで王は「ハマンを速く連れてきて、エステルの言うようにせよ」と言い、やがて王とハマンはエステルの設けた酒宴に臨んだ。 |

And the king said unto Esther at the banquet of wine, What is thy petition? and it shall be granted thee: and what is thy request? even to the half of the kingdom it shall be performed. |
酒宴の時、王はエステルに言った、「あなたの求めることは何か。必ず聞かれる。あなたの願いは何か。国の半ばでも聞きとどけられる」。 |

Then answered Esther, and said, My petition and my request is: |
エステルは答えて言った、「わたしの求め、わたしの願いはこれです。 |

if I have found favor in the sight of the king, and if it please the king to grant my petition, and to perform my request, let the king and Haman come to the banquet that I shall prepare for them, and I will do to-morrow as the king hath said. |
もしわたしが王の目の前に恵みを得、また王がもしわたしの求めを許し、わたしの願いを聞きとどけるのをよしとされるならば、ハマンとご一緒に、あすまた、わたしが設けようとする酒宴に、お臨みください。わたしはあす王のお言葉どおりにいたしましょう」。 |

Then went Haman forth that day joyful and glad of heart: but when Haman saw Mordecai in the king’s gate, that he stood not up nor moved for him, he was filled with wrath against Mordecai. |
こうしてハマンはその日、心に喜び楽しんで出てきたが、ハマンはモルデカイが王の門にいて、自分にむかって立ちあがりもせず、また身動きもしないのを見たので、モルデカイに対し怒りに満たされた。 |

Nevertheless Haman refrained himself, and went home; and he sent and fetched his friends and Zeresh his wife. |
しかしハマンは耐え忍んで家に帰り、人をやってその友だちおよび妻ゼレシを呼んでこさせ、 |

And Haman recounted unto them the glory of his riches, and the multitude of his children, and all the things wherein the king had promoted him, and how he had advanced him above the princes and servants of the king. |
そしてハマンはその富の栄華と、そのむすこたちの多いことと、すべて王が自分を重んじられたこと、また王の大臣および侍臣たちにまさって自分を昇進させられたことを彼らに語った。 |

Haman said moreover, Yea, Esther the queen did let no man come in with the king unto the banquet that she had prepared but myself; and to-morrow also am I invited by her together with the king. |
ハマンはまた言った、「王妃エステルは酒宴を設けたが、わたしのほかはだれも王と共にこれに臨ませなかった。あすもまたわたしは王と共に王妃に招かれている。 |

Yet all this availeth me nothing, so long as I see Mordecai the Jew sitting at the king’s gate. |
しかしユダヤ人モルデカイが王の門に座しているのを見る間は、これらの事もわたしには楽しくない」。 |
| 5-14 |
Then said Zeresh his wife and all his friends unto him, Let a gallows be made fifty cubits high, and in the morning speak thou unto the king that Mordecai may be hanged thereon: then go thou in merrily with the king unto the banquet. And the thing pleased Haman; and he caused the gallows to be made. |
その時、妻ゼレシとすべての友は彼に言った、「高さ五十キュビトの木を立てさせ、あすの朝、モルデカイをその上に掛けるように王に申し上げなさい。そして王と一緒に楽しんでその酒宴においでなさい」。ハマンはこの事をよしとして、その木を立てさせた。 |
