14-1 And Jehovah spake unto Moses, saying, 主はモーセに言われた、
14-2 Speak unto the children of Israel, that they turn back and encamp before Pihahiroth, between Migdol and the sea, before Baal-zephon: over against it shall ye encamp by the sea. 「イスラエルの人々に告げ、引き返して、ミグドルと海との間にあるピハヒロテの前、バアルゼポンの前に宿営させなさい。あなたがたはそれにむかって、海のかたわらに宿営しなければならない。
14-3 And Pharaoh will say of the children of Israel, They are entangled in the land, the wilderness hath shut them in. パロはイスラエルの人々について、『彼らはその地で迷っている。荒野は彼らを閉じ込めてしまった』と言うであろう。
14-4 And I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and he shall follow after them; and I will get me honor upon Pharaoh, and upon all his host: and the Egyptians shall know that I am Jehovah. And they did so. わたしがパロの心をかたくなにするから、パロは彼らのあとを追うであろう。わたしはパロとそのすべての軍勢を破って誉を得、エジプトびとにわたしが主であることを知らせるであろう」。彼らはそのようにした。
14-5 And it was told the king of Egypt that the people were fled: and the heart of Pharaoh and of his servants was changed towards the people, and they said, What is this we have done, that we have let Israel go from serving us? 民の逃げ去ったことが、エジプトの王に伝えられたので、パロとその家来たちとは、民に対する考えを変えて言った、「われわれはなぜこのようにイスラエルを去らせて、われわれに仕えさせないようにしたのであろう」。
14-6 And he made ready his chariot, and took his people with him: それでパロは戦車を整え、みずからその民を率い、
14-7 and he took six hundred chosen chariots, and all the chariots of Egypt, and captains over all of them. また、えり抜きの戦車六百と、エジプトのすべての戦車およびすべての指揮者たちを率いた。
14-8 And Jehovah hardened the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and he pursued after the children of Israel: for the children of Israel went out with a high hand. 主がエジプトの王パロの心をかたくなにされたので、彼はイスラエルの人々のあとを追った。イスラエルの人々は意気揚々と出たのである。
14-9 And the Egyptians pursued after them, all the horses and chariots of Pharaoh, and his horsemen, and his army, and overtook them encamping by the sea, beside Pihahiroth, before Baal-zephon. エジプトびとは彼らのあとを追い、パロのすべての馬と戦車およびその騎兵と軍勢とは、バアルゼポンの前にあるピハヒロテのあたりで、海のかたわらに宿営している彼らに追いついた。
14-10 And when Pharaoh drew nigh, the children of Israel lifted up their eyes, and, behold, the Egyptians were marching after them; and they were sore afraid: and the children of Israel cried out unto Jehovah. パロが近寄った時、イスラエルの人々は目を上げてエジプトびとが彼らのあとに進んできているのを見て、非常に恐れた。そしてイスラエルの人々は主にむかって叫び、
14-11 And they said unto Moses, Because there were no graves in Egypt, hast thou taken us away to die in the wilderness? wherefore hast thou dealt thus with us, to bring us forth out of Egypt? かつモーセに言った、「エジプトに墓がないので、荒野で死なせるために、わたしたちを携え出したのですか。なぜわたしたちをエジプトから導き出して、こんなにするのですか。
14-12 Is not this the word that we spake unto thee in Egypt, saying, Let us alone, that we may serve the Egyptians? For it were better for us to serve the Egyptians, than that we should die in the wilderness. わたしたちがエジプトであなたに告げて、『わたしたちを捨てておいて、エジプトびとに仕えさせてください』と言ったのは、このことではありませんか。荒野で死ぬよりもエジプトびとに仕える方が、わたしたちにはよかったのです」。
14-13 And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of Jehovah, which he will work for you to-day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to-day, ye shall see them again no more for ever. モーセは民に言った、「あなたがたは恐れてはならない。かたく立って、主がきょう、あなたがたのためになされる救を見なさい。きょう、あなたがたはエジプトびとを見るが、もはや永久に、二度と彼らを見ないであろう。
14-14 Jehovah will fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace. 主があなたがたのために戦われるから、あなたがたは黙していなさい」。
14-15 And Jehovah said unto Moses, Wherefore criest thou unto me? speak unto the children of Israel, that they go forward. 主はモーセに言われた、「あなたは、なぜわたしにむかって叫ぶのか。イスラエルの人々に語って彼らを進み行かせなさい。
14-16 And lift thou up thy rod, and stretch out thy hand over the sea, and divide it: and the children of Israel shall go into the midst of the sea on dry ground. あなたはつえを上げ、手を海の上にさし伸べてそれを分け、イスラエルの人々に海の中のかわいた地を行かせなさい。
14-17 And I, behold, I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians, and they shall go in after them: and I will get me honor upon Pharaoh, and upon all his host, upon his chariots, and upon his horsemen. わたしがエジプトびとの心をかたくなにするから、彼らはそのあとを追ってはいるであろう。こうしてわたしはパロとそのすべての軍勢および戦車と騎兵とを打ち破って誉を得よう。
14-18 And the Egyptians shall know that I am Jehovah, when I have gotten me honor upon Pharaoh, upon his chariots, and upon his horsemen. わたしがパロとその戦車とその騎兵とを打ち破って誉を得るとき、エジプトびとはわたしが主であることを知るであろう」。
14-19 And the angel of God, who went before the camp of Israel, removed and went behind them; and the pillar of cloud removed from before them, and stood behind them: このとき、イスラエルの部隊の前に行く神の使は移って彼らのうしろに行った。雲の柱も彼らの前から移って彼らのうしろに立ち、
14-20 and it came between the camp of Egypt and the camp of Israel; and there was the cloud and the darkness, yet gave it light by night: and the one came not near the other all the night. エジプトびとの部隊とイスラエルびとの部隊との間にきたので、そこに雲とやみがあり夜もすがら、かれとこれと近づくことなく、夜がすぎた。
14-21 And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and Jehovah caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all the night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided. モーセが手を海の上にさし伸べたので、主は夜もすがら強い東風をもって海を退かせ、海を陸地とされ、水は分かれた。
14-22 And the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea upon the dry ground: and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left. イスラエルの人々は海の中のかわいた地を行ったが、水は彼らの右と左に、かきとなった。
14-23 And the Egyptians pursued, and went in after them into the midst of the sea, all Pharaoh’s horses, his chariots, and his horsemen. エジプトびとは追ってきて、パロのすべての馬と戦車と騎兵とは、彼らのあとについて海の中にはいった。
14-24 And it came to pass in the morning watch, that Jehovah looked forth upon the host of the Egyptians through the pillar of fire and of cloud, and discomfited the host of the Egyptians. 暁の更に、主は火と雲の柱のうちからエジプトびとの軍勢を見おろして、エジプトびとの軍勢を乱し、
14-25 And he took off their chariot wheels, and they drove them heavily; so that the Egyptians said, Let us flee from the face of Israel; for Jehovah fighteth for them against the Egyptians. その戦車の輪をきしらせて、進むのに重くされたので、エジプトびとは言った、「われわれはイスラエルを離れて逃げよう。主が彼らのためにエジプトびとと戦う」。
14-26 And Jehovah said unto Moses, Stretch out thy hand over the sea, that the waters may come again upon the Egyptians, upon their chariots, and upon their horsemen. そのとき主はモーセに言われた、「あなたの手を海の上にさし伸べて、水をエジプトびとと、その戦車と騎兵との上に流れ返らせなさい」。
14-27 And Moses stretched forth his hand over the sea, and the sea returned to its strength when the morning appeared; and the Egyptians fled against it; and Jehovah overthrew the Egyptians in the midst of the sea. モーセが手を海の上にさし伸べると、夜明けになって海はいつもの流れに返り、エジプトびとはこれにむかって逃げたが、主はエジプトびとを海の中に投げ込まれた。
14-28 And the waters returned, and covered the chariots, and the horsemen, even all the host of Pharaoh that went in after them into the sea; there remained not so much as one of them. 水は流れ返り、イスラエルのあとを追って海にはいった戦車と騎兵およびパロのすべての軍勢をおおい、ひとりも残らなかった。
14-29 But the children of Israel walked upon dry land in the midst of the sea; and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left. しかし、イスラエルの人々は海の中のかわいた地を行ったが、水は彼らの右と左に、かきとなった。
14-30 Thus Jehovah saved Israel that day out of the hand of the Egyptians; and Israel saw the Egyptians dead upon the sea-shore. このように、主はこの日イスラエルをエジプトびとの手から救われた。イスラエルはエジプトびとが海べに死んでいるのを見た。
14-31 And Israel saw the great work which Jehovah did upon the Egyptians, and the people feared Jehovah: and they believed in Jehovah, and in his servant Moses. イスラエルはまた、主がエジプトびとに行われた大いなるみわざを見た。それで民は主を恐れ、主とそのしもべモーセとを信じた。
