16-1 And they took their journey from Elim, and all the congregation of the children of Israel came unto the wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after their departing out of the land of Egypt. イスラエルの人々の全会衆はエリムを出発し、エジプトの地を出て二か月目の十五日に、エリムとシナイとの間にあるシンの荒野にきたが、
16-2 And the whole congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron in the wilderness: その荒野でイスラエルの人々の全会衆は、モーセとアロンにつぶやいた。
16-3 and the children of Israel said unto them, Would that we had died by the hand of Jehovah in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the flesh-pots, when we did eat bread to the full; for ye have brought us forth into this wilderness, to kill this whole assembly with hunger. イスラエルの人々は彼らに言った、「われわれはエジプトの地で、肉のなべのかたわらに座し、飽きるほどパンを食べていた時に、主の手にかかって死んでいたら良かった。あなたがたは、われわれをこの荒野に導き出して、全会衆を餓死させようとしている」。
16-4 Then said Jehovah unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a day’s portion every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or not. そのとき主はモーセに言われた、「見よ、わたしはあなたがたのために、天からパンを降らせよう。民は出て日々の分を日ごとに集めなければならない。こうして彼らがわたしの律法に従うかどうかを試みよう。
16-5 And it shall come to pass on the sixth day, that they shall prepare that which they bring in, and it shall be twice as much as they gather daily. 六日目には、彼らが取り入れたものを調理すると、それは日ごとに集めるものの二倍あるであろう」。
16-6 And Moses and Aaron said unto all the children of Israel, At even, then ye shall know that Jehovah hath brought you out from the land of Egypt; モーセとアロンは、イスラエルのすべての人々に言った、「夕暮には、あなたがたは、エジプトの地からあなたがたを導き出されたのが、主であることを知るであろう。
16-7 and in the morning, then ye shall see the glory of Jehovah; for that he heareth your murmurings against Jehovah: and what are we, that ye murmur against us? また、朝には、あなたがたは主の栄光を見るであろう。主はあなたがたが主にむかってつぶやくのを聞かれたからである。あなたがたは、いったいわれわれを何者として、われわれにむかってつぶやくのか」。
16-8 And Moses said, This shall be, when Jehovah shall give you in the evening flesh to eat, and in the morning bread to the full; for that Jehovah heareth your murmurings which ye murmur against him: and what are we? your murmurings are not against us, but against Jehovah. モーセはまた言った、「主は夕暮にはあなたがたに肉を与えて食べさせ、朝にはパンを与えて飽き足らせられるであろう。主はあなたがたが、主にむかってつぶやくつぶやきを聞かれたからである。いったいわれわれは何者なのか。あなたがたのつぶやくのは、われわれにむかってでなく、主にむかってである」。
16-9 And Moses said unto Aaron, Say unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, Come near before Jehovah; for he hath heard your murmurings. モーセはアロンに言った、「イスラエルの人々の全会衆に言いなさい、『あなたがたは主の前に近づきなさい。主があなたがたのつぶやきを聞かれたからである』と」。
16-10 And it came to pass, as Aaron spake unto the whole congregation of the children of Israel, that they looked toward the wilderness, and, behold, the glory of Jehovah appeared in the cloud. それでアロンがイスラエルの人々の全会衆に語ったとき、彼らが荒野の方を望むと、見よ、主の栄光が雲のうちに現れていた。
16-11 And Jehovah spake unto Moses, saying, 主はモーセに言われた、
16-12 I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel: speak unto them, saying, At even ye shall eat flesh, and in the morning ye shall be filled with bread: and ye shall know that I am Jehovah your God. 「わたしはイスラエルの人々のつぶやきを聞いた。彼らに言いなさい、『あなたがたは夕には肉を食べ、朝にはパンに飽き足りるであろう。そうしてわたしがあなたがたの神、主であることを知るであろう』と」。
16-13 And it came to pass at even, that the quails came up, and covered the camp: and in the morning the dew lay round about the camp. 夕べになると、うずらが飛んできて宿営をおおった。また、朝になると、宿営の周囲に露が降りた。
16-14 And when the dew that lay was gone up, behold, upon the face of the wilderness a small round thing, small as the hoar-frost on the ground. その降りた露がかわくと、荒野の面には、薄いうろこのようなものがあり、ちょうど地に結ぶ薄い霜のようであった。
16-15 And when the children of Israel saw it, they said one to another, What is it? For they knew not what it was. And Moses said unto them, It is the bread which Jehovah hath given you to eat. イスラエルの人々はそれを見て互に言った、「これはなんであろう」。彼らはそれがなんであるのか知らなかったからである。モーセは彼らに言った、「これは主があなたがたの食物として賜わるパンである。
16-16 This is the thing which Jehovah hath commanded, Gather ye of it every man according to his eating; an omer a head, according to the number of your persons, shall ye take it, every man for them that are in his tent. 主が命じられるのはこうである、『あなたがたは、おのおのその食べるところに従ってそれを集め、あなたがたの人数に従って、ひとり一オメルずつ、おのおのその天幕におるもののためにそれを取りなさい』と」。
16-17 And the children of Israel did so, and gathered some more, some less. イスラエルの人々はそのようにして、ある者は多く、ある者は少なく集めた。
16-18 And when they measured it with an omer, he that gathered much had nothing over, and he that gathered little had no lack; they gathered every man according to his eating. しかし、オメルでそれを計ってみると、多く集めた者にも余らず、少なく集めた者にも不足しなかった。おのおのその食べるところに従って集めていた。
16-19 And Moses said unto them, Let no man leave of it till the morning. モーセは彼らに言った、「だれも朝までそれを残しておいてはならない」。
16-20 Notwithstanding they hearkened not unto Moses; but some of them left of it until the morning, and it bred worms, and became foul: and Moses was wroth with them. しかし彼らはモーセに聞き従わないで、ある者は朝までそれを残しておいたが、虫がついて臭くなった。モーセは彼らにむかって怒った。
16-21 And they gathered it morning by morning, every man according to his eating: and when the sun waxed hot, it melted. 彼らは、おのおのその食べるところに従って、朝ごとにそれを集めたが、日が熱くなるとそれは溶けた。
16-22 And it came to pass, that on the sixth day they gathered twice as much bread, two omers for each one: and all the rulers of the congregation came and told Moses. 六日目には、彼らは二倍のパン、すなわちひとりに二オメルを集めた。そこで、会衆の長たちは皆きて、モーセに告げたが、
16-23 And he said unto them, This is that which Jehovah hath spoken, Tomorrow is a solemn rest, a holy sabbath unto Jehovah: bake that which ye will bake, and boil that which ye will boil; and all that remaineth over lay up for you to be kept until the morning. モーセは彼らに言った、「主の語られたのはこうである、『あすは主の聖安息日で休みである。きょう、焼こうとするものを焼き、煮ようとするものを煮なさい。残ったものはみな朝までたくわえて保存しなさい』と」。
16-24 And they laid it up till the morning, as Moses bade: and it did not become foul, neither was there any worm therein. 彼らはモーセの命じたように、それを朝まで保存したが、臭くならず、また虫もつかなかった。
16-25 And Moses said, Eat that to-day; for to-day is a sabbath unto Jehovah: to-day ye shall not find it in the field. モーセは言った、「きょう、それを食べなさい。きょうは主の安息日であるから、きょうは野でそれを獲られないであろう。
16-26 Six days ye shall gather it; but on the seventh day is the sabbath, in it there shall be none. 六日の間はそれを集めなければならない。七日目は安息日であるから、その日には無いであろう」。
16-27 And it came to pass on the seventh day, that there went out some of the people to gather, and they found none. ところが民のうちには、七日目に出て集めようとした者があったが、獲られなかった。
16-28 And Jehovah said unto Moses, How long refuse ye to keep my commandments and my laws? そこで主はモーセに言われた、「あなたがたは、いつまでわたしの戒めと、律法とを守ることを拒むのか。
16-29 See, for that Jehovah hath given you the sabbath, therefore he giveth you on the sixth day the bread of two days; abide ye every man in his place, let no man go out of his place on the seventh day. 見よ、主はあなたがたに安息日を与えられた。ゆえに六日目には、ふつか分のパンをあなたがたに賜わるのである。おのおのその所にとどまり、七日目にはその所から出てはならない」。
16-30 So the people rested on the seventh day. こうして民は七日目に休んだ。
16-31 And the house of Israel called the name thereof Manna: and it was like coriander seed, white; and the taste of it was like wafers made with honey. イスラエルの家はその物の名をマナと呼んだ。それはコエンドロの実のようで白く、その味は蜜を入れたせんべいのようであった。
16-32 And Moses said, This is the thing which Jehovah hath commanded, Let an omerful of it be kept throughout your generations, that they may see the bread wherewith I fed you in the wilderness, when I brought you forth from the land of Egypt. モーセは言った、「主の命じられることはこうである、『それを一オメルあなたがたの子孫のためにたくわえておきなさい。それはわたしが、あなたがたをエジプトの地から導き出した時、荒野であなたがたに食べさせたパンを彼らに見させるためである』と」。
16-33 And Moses said unto Aaron, Take a pot, and put an omerful of manna therein, and lay it up before Jehovah, to be kept throughout your generations. そしてモーセはアロンに言った「一つのつぼを取り、マナ一オメルをその中に入れ、それを主の前に置いて、子孫のためにたくわえなさい」。
16-34 As Jehovah commanded Moses, so Aaron laid it up before the Testimony, to be kept. そこで主がモーセに命じられたように、アロンはそれをあかしの箱の前に置いてたくわえた。
16-35 And the children of Israel did eat the manna forty years, until they came to a land inhabited; they did eat the manna, until they came unto the borders of the land of Canaan. イスラエルの人々は人の住む地に着くまで四十年の間マナを食べた。すなわち、彼らはカナンの地の境に至るまでマナを食べた。
16-36 Now an omer is the tenth part of an ephah. 一オメルは一エパの十分の一である。
