| 19-1 |
In the third month after the children of Israel were gone forth out of the land of Egypt, the same day came they into the wilderness of Sinai. |
イスラエルの人々は、エジプトの地を出て後三月目のその日に、シナイの荒野にはいった。 |

And when they were departed from Rephidim, and were come to the wilderness of Sinai, they encamped in the wilderness; and there Israel encamped before the mount. |
すなわち彼らはレピデムを出立してシナイの荒野に入り、荒野に宿営した。イスラエルはその所で山の前に宿営した。 |
| 19-3 |
And Moses went up unto God, and Jehovah called unto him out of the mountain, saying, Thus shalt thou say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel: |
さて、モーセが神のもとに登ると、主は山から彼を呼んで言われた、「このように、ヤコブの家に言い、イスラエルの人々に告げなさい、 |

Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles’ wings, and brought you unto myself. |
『あなたがたは、わたしがエジプトびとにした事と、あなたがたを鷲の翼に載せてわたしの所にこさせたことを見た。 |
| 19-5 |
Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be mine own possession from among all peoples: for all the earth is mine: |
それで、もしあなたがたが、まことにわたしの声に聞き従い、わたしの契約を守るならば、あなたがたはすべての民にまさって、わたしの宝となるであろう。全地はわたしの所有だからである。 |
| 19-6 |
and ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and a holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel. |
あなたがたはわたしに対して祭司の国となり、また聖なる民となるであろう』。これがあなたのイスラエルの人々に語るべき言葉である」。 |
| 19-7 |
And Moses came and called for the elders of the people, and set before them all these words which Jehovah commanded him. |
それでモーセは行って民の長老たちを呼び、主が命じられたこれらの言葉を、すべてその前に述べたので、 |
| 19-8 |
And all the people answered together, and said, All that Jehovah hath spoken we will do. And Moses reported the words of the people unto Jehovah. |
民はみな共に答えて言った、「われわれは主が言われたことを、みな行います」。モーセは民の言葉を主に告げた。 |
| 19-9 |
And Jehovah said unto Moses, Lo, I come unto thee in a thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with thee, and may also believe thee for ever. And Moses told the words of the people unto Jehovah. |
主はモーセに言われた、「見よ、わたしは濃い雲のうちにあって、あなたに臨むであろう。それはわたしがあなたと語るのを民に聞かせて、彼らに長くあなたを信じさせるためである」。 |
| 19-10 |
And Jehovah said unto Moses, Go unto the people, and sanctify them to-day and to-morrow, and let them wash their garments, |
主はモーセに言われた、「あなたは民のところに行って、きょうとあす、彼らをきよめ、彼らにその衣服を洗わせ、 |
| 19-11 |
and be ready against the third day; for the third day Jehovah will come down in the sight of all the people upon mount Sinai. |
三日目までに備えさせなさい。三日目に主が、すべての民の目の前で、シナイ山に下るからである。 |
| 19-12 |
And thou shalt set bounds unto the people round about, saying, Take heed to yourselves, that ye go not up into the mount, or touch the border of it: whosoever toucheth the mount shall be surely put to death: |
あなたは民のために、周囲に境を設けて言いなさい、『あなたがたは注意して、山に上らず、また、その境界に触れないようにしなさい。山に触れる者は必ず殺されるであろう。 |

no hand shall touch him, but he shall surely be stoned, or shot through; whether it be beast or man, he shall not live: when the trumpet soundeth long, they shall come up to the mount. |
手をそれに触れてはならない。触れる者は必ず石で打ち殺されるか、射殺されるであろう。獣でも人でも生きることはできない』。ラッパが長く響いた時、彼らは山に登ることができる」と。 |
| 19-14 |
And Moses went down from the mount unto the people, and sanctified the people; and they washed their garments. |
そこでモーセは山から民のところに下り、民をきよめた。彼らはその衣服を洗った。 |
| 19-15 |
And he said unto the people, Be ready against the third day: come not near a woman. |
モーセは民に言った、「三日目までに備えをしなさい。女に近づいてはならない」。 |
| 19-16 |
And it came to pass on the third day, when it was morning, that there were thunders and lightnings, and a thick cloud upon the mount, and the voice of a trumpet exceeding loud; and all the people that were in the camp trembled. |
三日目の朝となって、かみなりと、いなずまと厚い雲とが、山の上にあり、ラッパの音が、はなはだ高く響いたので、宿営におる民はみな震えた。 |
| 19-17 |
And Moses brought forth the people out of the camp to meet God; and they stood at the nether part of the mount. |
モーセが民を神に会わせるために、宿営から導き出したので、彼らは山のふもとに立った。 |
| 19-18 |
And mount Sinai, the whole of it, smoked, because Jehovah descended upon it in fire; and the smoke thereof ascended as the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mount quaked greatly. |
シナイ山は全山煙った。主が火のなかにあって、その上に下られたからである。その煙は、かまどの煙のように立ち上り、全山はげしく震えた。 |
| 19-19 |
And when the voice of the trumpet waxed louder and louder, Moses spake, and God answered him by a voice. |
ラッパの音が、いよいよ高くなったとき、モーセは語り、神は、かみなりをもって、彼に答えられた。 |
| 19-20 |
And Jehovah came down upon mount Sinai, to the top of the mount: and Jehovah called Moses to the top of the mount; and Moses went up. |
主はシナイ山の頂に下られた。そして主がモーセを山の頂に召されたので、モーセは登った。 |
| 19-21 |
And Jehovah said unto Moses, Go down, charge the people, lest they break through unto Jehovah to gaze, and many of them perish. |
主はモーセに言われた、「下って行って民を戒めなさい。民が押し破って、主のところにきて、見ようとし、多くのものが死ぬことのないようにするためである。 |
| 19-22 |
And let the priests also, that come near to Jehovah, sanctify themselves, lest Jehovah break forth upon them. |
主に近づく祭司たちにもまた、その身をきよめさせなさい。主が彼らを打つことのないようにするためである」。 |
| 19-23 |
And Moses said unto Jehovah, The people cannot come up to mount Sinai: for thou didst charge us, saying, Set bounds about the mount, and sanctify it. |
モーセは主に言った、「民はシナイ山に登ることはできないでしょう。あなたがわたしたちを戒めて『山のまわりに境を設け、それをきよめよ』と言われたからです」。 |
| 19-24 |
And Jehovah said unto him, Go, get thee down; and thou shalt come up, thou, and Aaron with thee: but let not the priests and the people break through to come up unto Jehovah, lest he break forth upon them. |
主は彼に言われた、「行け、下れ。そしてあなたはアロンと共に登ってきなさい。ただし、祭司たちと民とが、押し破って主のところに登ることのないようにしなさい。主が彼らを打つことのないようにするためである」。 |
| 19-25 |
So Moses went down unto the people, and told them. |
モーセは民の所に下って行って彼らに告げた。 |
