| 20-1 |
And God spake all these words, saying, |
神はこのすべての言葉を語って言われた。 |
| 20-2 |
I am Jehovah thy God, who brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. |
「わたしはあなたの神、主であって、あなたをエジプトの地、奴隷の家から導き出した者である。 |
| 20-3 |
Thou shalt have no other gods before me. |
あなたはわたしのほかに、なにものをも神としてはならない。 |
| 20-4 |
Thou shalt not make unto thee a graven image, nor any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. |
あなたは自分のために、刻んだ像を造ってはならない。上は天にあるもの、下は地にあるもの、また地の下の水のなかにあるものの、どんな形をも造ってはならない。 |
| 20-5 |
Thou shalt not bow down thyself unto them, nor serve them, for I Jehovah thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, upon the third and upon the fourth generation of them that hate me, |
それにひれ伏してはならない。それに仕えてはならない。あなたの神、主であるわたしは、ねたむ神であるから、わたしを憎むものは、父の罪を子に報いて、三四代に及ぼし、 |
| 20-6 |
and showing lovingkindness unto thousands of them that love me and keep my commandments. |
わたしを愛し、わたしの戒めを守るものには、恵みを施して、千代に至るであろう。 |
| 20-7 |
Thou shalt not take the name of Jehovah thy God in vain; for Jehovah will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain. |
あなたは、あなたの神、主の名を、みだりに唱えてはならない。主は、み名をみだりに唱えるものを、罰しないでは置かないであろう。 |
| 20-8 |
Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. |
安息日を覚えて、これを聖とせよ。 |
| 20-9 |
Six days shalt thou labor, and do all thy work; |
六日のあいだ働いてあなたのすべてのわざをせよ。 |
| 20-10 |
but the seventh day is a sabbath unto Jehovah thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy man-servant, nor thy maid-servant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: |
七日目はあなたの神、主の安息であるから、なんのわざをもしてはならない。あなたもあなたのむすこ、娘、しもべ、はしため、家畜、またあなたの門のうちにいる他国の人もそうである。 |
| 20-11 |
for in six days Jehovah made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore Jehovah blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it. |
主は六日のうちに、天と地と海と、その中のすべてのものを造って、七日目に休まれたからである。それで主は安息日を祝福して聖とされた。 |
| 20-12 |
Honor thy father and thy mother, that thy days may be long in the land which Jehovah thy God giveth thee. |
あなたの父と母を敬え。これは、あなたの神、主が賜わる地で、あなたが長く生きるためである。 |
| 20-13 |
Thou shalt not kill. |
あなたは殺してはならない。 |
| 20-14 |
Thou shalt not commit adultery. |
あなたは姦淫してはならない。 |
| 20-15 |
Thou shalt not steal. |
あなたは盗んではならない。 |
| 20-16 |
Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor. |
あなたは隣人について、偽証してはならない。 |
| 20-17 |
Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s wife, nor his man-servant, nor his maid-servant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor anything that is thy neighbor’s. |
あなたは隣人の家をむさぼってはならない。隣人の妻、しもべ、はしため、牛、ろば、またすべて隣人のものをむさぼってはならない」。 |
| 20-18 |
And all the people perceived the thunderings, and the lightnings, and the voice of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking: and when the people saw it, they trembled, and stood afar off. |
民は皆、かみなりと、いなずまと、ラッパの音と、山の煙っているのとを見た。民は恐れおののき、遠く離れて立った。 |
| 20-19 |
And they said unto Moses, Speak thou with us, and we will hear; but let not God speak with us, lest we die. |
彼らはモーセに言った、「あなたがわたしたちに語ってください。わたしたちは聞き従います。神がわたしたちに語られぬようにしてください。それでなければ、わたしたちは死ぬでしょう」。 |
| 20-20 |
And Moses said unto the people, Fear not: for God is come to prove you, and that his fear may be before you, that ye sin not. |
モーセは民に言った、「恐れてはならない。神はあなたがたを試みるため、またその恐れをあなたがたの目の前において、あなたがたが罪を犯さないようにするために臨まれたのである」。 |
| 20-21 |
And the people stood afar off, and Moses drew near unto the thick darkness where God was. |
そこで、民は遠く離れて立ったが、モーセは神のおられる濃い雲に近づいて行った。 |
| 20-22 |
And Jehovah said unto Moses, Thus thou shalt say unto the children of Israel, Ye yourselves have seen that I have talked with you from heaven. |
主はモーセに言われた、「あなたはイスラエルの人々にこう言いなさい、『あなたがたは、わたしが天からあなたがたと語るのを見た。 |
| 20-23 |
Ye shall not make other gods with me; gods of silver, or gods of gold, ye shall not make unto you. |
あなたがたはわたしと並べて、何をも造ってはならない。銀の神々も、金の神々も、あなたがたのために、造ってはならない。 |
| 20-24 |
An altar of earth thou shalt make unto me, and shalt sacrifice thereon thy burnt-offerings, and thy peace-offerings, thy sheep, and thine oxen: in every place where I record my name I will come unto thee and I will bless thee. |
あなたはわたしのために土の祭壇を築き、その上にあなたの燔祭、酬恩祭、羊、牛をささげなければならない。わたしの名を覚えさせるすべての所で、わたしはあなたに臨んで、あなたを祝福するであろう。 |
| 20-25 |
And if thou make me an altar of stone, thou shalt not build it of hewn stones; for if thou lift up thy tool upon it, thou hast polluted it. |
あなたがもしわたしに石の祭壇を造るならば、切り石で築いてはならない。あなたがもし、のみをそれに当てるならば、それをけがすからである。 |
| 20-26 |
Neither shalt thou go up by steps unto mine altar, that thy nakedness be not uncovered thereon. |
あなたは階段によって、わたしの祭壇に登ってはならない。あなたの隠し所が、その上にあらわれることのないようにするためである』。 |
