1-1 Now it came to pass in the thirtieth year, in the fourth month, in the fifth day of the month, as I was among the captives by the river Chebar, that the heavens were opened, and I saw visions of God. 第三十年四月五日に、わたしがケバル川のほとりで、捕囚の人々のうちにいた時、天が開けて、神の幻を見た。
1-2 In the fifth day of the month, which was the fifth year of king Jehoiachin’s captivity, これはエホヤキン王の捕え移された第五年であって、その月の五日に、
1-3 the word of Jehovah came expressly unto Ezekiel the priest, the son of Buzi, in the land of the Chaldeans by the river Chebar; and the hand of Jehovah was there upon him. 主の言葉がケバル川のほとり、カルデヤびとの地でブジの子祭司エゼキエルに臨み、主の手がその所で彼の上にあった。
1-4 And I looked, and, behold, a stormy wind came out of the north, a great cloud, with a fire infolding itself, and a brightness round about it, and out of the midst thereof as it were glowing metal, out of the midst of the fire. わたしが見ていると、見よ、激しい風と大いなる雲が北から来て、その周囲に輝きがあり、たえず火を吹き出していた。その火の中に青銅のように輝くものがあった。
1-5 And out of the midst thereof came the likeness of four living creatures. And this was their appearance: they had the likeness of a man. またその中から四つの生きものの形が出てきた。その様子はこうである。彼らは人の姿をもっていた。
1-6 And every one had four faces, and every one of them had four wings. おのおの四つの顔をもち、またそのおのおのに四つの翼があった。
1-7 And their feet were straight feet; and the sole of their feet was like the sole of a calf’s foot; and they sparkled like burnished brass. その足はまっすぐで、足のうらは子牛の足のうらのようであり、みがいた青銅のように光っていた。
1-8 And they had the hands of a man under their wings on their four sides; and they four had their faces and their wings thus: その四方に、そのおのおのの翼の下に人の手があった。この四つの者はみな顔と翼をもち、
1-9 their wings were joined one to another; they turned not when they went; they went every one straight forward. 翼は互に連なり、行く時は回らずに、おのおの顔の向かうところにまっすぐに進んだ。
1-10 As for the likeness of their faces, they had the face of a man; and they four had the face of a lion on the right side; and they four had the face of an ox on the left side; they four had also the face of an eagle. 顔の形は、おのおのその前方に人の顔をもっていた。四つの者は右の方に、ししの顔をもち、四つの者は左の方に牛の顔をもち、また四つの者は後ろの方に、わしの顔をもっていた。
1-11 And their faces and their wings were separate above; two wings of every one were joined one to another, and two covered their bodies. 彼らの顔はこのようであった。その翼は高く伸ばされ、その二つは互に連なり、他の二つをもってからだをおおっていた。
1-12 And they went every one straight forward: whither the spirit was to go, they went; they turned not when they went. 彼らはおのおのその顔の向かうところへまっすぐに行き、霊の行くところへ彼らも行き、その行く時は回らない。
1-13 As for the likeness of the living creatures, their appearance was like burning coals of fire, like the appearance of torches: the fire went up and down among the living creatures; and the fire was bright, and out of the fire went forth lightning. この生きもののうちには燃える炭の火のようなものがあり、たいまつのように、生きものの中を行き来している。火は輝いて、その火から、いなずまが出ていた。
1-14 And the living creatures ran and returned as the appearance of a flash of lightning. 生きものは、いなずまのひらめきのように速く行き来していた。
1-15 Now as I beheld the living creatures, behold, one wheel upon the earth beside the living creatures, for each of the four faces thereof. わたしが生きものを見ていると、生きもののかたわら、地の上に輪があった。四つの生きものおのおのに、一つずつの輪である。
1-16 The appearance of the wheels and their work was like unto a beryl: and they four had one likeness; and their appearance and their work was as it were a wheel within a wheel. もろもろの輪の形と作りは、光る貴かんらん石のようである。四つのものは同じ形で、その作りは、あたかも、輪の中に輪があるようである。
1-17 When they went, they went in their four directions: they turned not when they went. その行く時、彼らは四方のいずれかに行き、行く時は回らない。
1-18 As for their rims, they were high and dreadful; and they four had their rims full of eyes round about. 四つの輪には輪縁と輻とがあり、その輪縁の周囲は目をもって満たされていた。
1-19 And when the living creatures went, the wheels went beside them; and when the living creatures were lifted up from the earth, the wheels were lifted up. 生きものが行く時には、輪もそのかたわらに行き、生きものが地からあがる時は、輪もあがる。
1-20 Whithersoever the spirit was to go, they went; thither was the spirit to go: and the wheels were lifted up beside them; for the spirit of the living creature was in the wheels. 霊の行く所には彼らも行き、輪は彼らに伴ってあがる。生きものの霊が輪の中にあるからである。
1-21 When those went, these went; and when those stood, these stood; and when those were lifted up from the earth, the wheels were lifted up beside them: for the spirit of the living creature was in the wheels. 彼らが行く時は、これらも行き、彼らがとどまる時は、これらもとどまり、彼らが地からあがる時は、輪もまたこれらと共にあがる。生きものの霊が輪の中にあるからである。
1-22 And over the head of the living creature there was the likeness of a firmament, like the terrible crystal to look upon, stretched forth over their heads above. 生きものの頭の上に水晶のように輝く大空の形があって、彼らの頭の上に広がっている。、
1-23 And under the firmament were their wings straight, the one toward the other: every one had two which covered on this side, and every one had two which covered on that side, their bodies. 大空の下にはまっすぐに伸ばした翼があり、たがいに相連なり、生きものはおのおの二つの翼をもって、からだをおおっている。
1-24 And when they went, I heard the noise of their wings like the noise of great waters, like the voice of the Almighty, a noise of tumult like the noise of a host: when they stood, they let down their wings. その行く時、わたしは大水の声、全能者の声のような翼の声を聞いた。その声の響きは大軍の声のようで、そのとどまる時は翼をたれる。
1-25 And there was a voice above the firmament that was over their heads: when they stood, they let down their wings. また彼らの頭の上の大空から声があった。彼らが立ちとどまる時は翼をおろした。
1-26 And above the firmament that was over their heads was the likeness of a throne, as the appearance of a sapphire stone; and upon the likeness of the throne was a likeness as the appearance of a man upon it above. 彼らの頭の上の大空の上に、サファイヤのような位の形があった。またその位の形の上に、人の姿のような形があった。
1-27 And I saw as it were glowing metal, as the appearance of fire within it round about, from the appearance of his loins and upward; and from the appearance of his loins and downward I saw as it were the appearance of fire, and there was brightness round about him. そしてその腰とみえる所の上の方に、火の形のような光る青銅の色のものが、これを囲んでいるのを見た。わたしはその腰とみえる所の下の方に、火のようなものを見た。そして彼のまわりに輝きがあった。
1-28 As the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud in the day of rain, so was the appearance of the brightness round about. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of Jehovah. And when I saw it, I fell upon my face, and I heard a voice of one that spake. そのまわりにある輝きのさまは、雨の日に雲に起るにじのようであった。主の栄光の形のさまは、このようであった。わたしはこれを見て、わたしの顔をふせたとき、語る者の声を聞いた。
