| 15-1 |
After these things the word of Jehovah came unto Abram in a
vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward. |
これらの事の後、主の言葉が幻のうちにアブラムに臨んだ、「アブラムよ恐れてはならない、わたしはあなたの盾である。あなたの受ける報いは、はなはだ大きいであろう」。

| 15-2 |
And Abram said, O Lord Jehovah, what wilt thou give me, seeing I go childless,
and he that shall be possessor of my house is Eliezer of Damascus? |
アブラムは言った、「主なる神よ、わたしには子がなく、わたしの家を継ぐ者はダマスコのエリエゼルであるのに、あなたはわたしに何をくださろうとするのですか」。

And Abram said, Behold, to me thou hast given no seed: and, lo,
one born in my house is mine heir. |
はまた言った、「あなたはわたしに子を賜わらないので、わたしの家に生れたしもべが、あとつぎとなるでしょう」。 |
| 15-4 |
And, behold, the word of Jehovah came unto him, saying, This man
shall not be thine heir; But he that shall come forth out of thine own bowels
shall be thine heir. |
この時、主の言葉が彼に臨んだ、「この者はあなたのあとつぎとなるべきではありません。あなたの身から出る者があとつぎとなるべきです」。

And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and
number the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him,
So shall thy seed be. |
そして主は彼を外に連れ出して言われた、「天を仰いで、星を数えることができるなら、数えてみなさい」。また彼に言われた、「あなたの子孫はあのようになるでしょう」。

And he believed in Jehovah; and he reckoned it to him for righteousness. |
アブラムは主を信じた。主はこれを彼の義と認められた。 |
| 15-7 |
And he said unto him, I am Jehovah that brought thee out of Ur of the Chaldees,
to give thee this land to inherit it. |
また主は彼に言われた、「わたしはこの地をあなたに与えて、これを継がせようと、あなたをカルデヤのウルから導き出した主です」。 |
| 15-8 |
And he said, O Lord Jehovah, whereby shall I know that I shall inherit
it? |
彼は言った、「主なる神よ、わたしがこれを継ぐのをどうして知ることができますか」。 |
| 15-9 |
And he said unto him, Take me a heifer three years old, and a she-goat
three years old, and a ram three years old, and a turtle-dove, and a young
pigeon. |
主は彼に言われた、「三歳の雌牛と、三歳の雌やぎと、三歳の雄羊と、山ばとと、家ばとのひなとをわたしの所に連れてきなさい」。 |
| 15-10 |
And he took him all these, and divided them in the midst, and laid each
half over against the other: but the birds divided he not. |
彼はこれらをみな連れてきて、二つに裂き、裂いたものを互に向かい合わせて置いた。ただし、鳥は裂かなかった。 |
| 15-11 |
And the birds of prey came down upon the carcasses, and Abram
drove them away. |
荒い鳥が死体の上に降りるとき、アブラムはこれを追い払った。 |
| 15-12 |
And when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram; and, lo,
a horror of great darkness fell upon him. |
日の入るころ、アブラムが深い眠りにおそわれた時、大きな恐ろしい暗やみが彼に臨んだ。 |
| 15-13 |
And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be sojourners
in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict
them four hundred years; |
時に主はアブラムに言われた、「あなたはよく心にとめておきなさい。あなたの子孫は他の国に旅びととなって、その人々に仕え、その人々は彼らを四百年の間、悩ますでしょう。 |
| 15-14 |
and also that nation, whom they shall serve, will I judge: and
afterward shall they come out with great substance. |
しかし、わたしは彼らが仕えたその国民をさばきます。その後かれらは多くの財産を携えて出て来るでしょう。 |
| 15-15 |
But thou shalt go to thy fathers in peace; thou shalt be buried in a good
old age. |
あなたは安らかに先祖のもとに行きます。そして高齢に達して葬られるでしょう。 |
| 15-16 |
And in the fourth generation they shall come hither again; for the iniquity
of the Amorite is not yet full. |
四代目になって彼らはここに帰って来るでしょう。アモリびとの悪がまだ満ちないからです」。 |
| 15-17 |
And it came to pass, that, when the sun went down, and it was dark, behold,
a smoking furnace, and a flaming torch that passed between these pieces. |
日は入り、暗やみになった時、煙の立つかまど、炎の出るたいまつが、裂いたものの間を通り過ぎた。 |
| 15-18 |
In that day Jehovah made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have
I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river
Euphrates: |
その日、主はアブラムと契約を結んで言われた、「わたしはこの地をあなたの子孫に与える。エジプトの川から、かの大川ユフラテまで。 |

the Kenite, and the Kenizzite, and the Kadmonite, |
すなわちケニびと、ケニジびと、カドモニびと、 |
| 15-20 |
and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, and the Rephaim, |
ヘテびと、ペリジびと、レパイムびと、 |
| 15-21 |
and the Amorite, and the Canaanite, and the Girgashite, and the
Jebusite. |
アモリびと、カナンびと、ギルガシびと、エブスびとの地を与える」。 |
