| 18-1 |
And Jehovah appeared unto him by the oaks of Mamre, as he sat in the tent
door in the heat of the day; |
主はマムレのテレビンの木のかたわらでアブラハムに現れられた。それは昼の暑いころで、彼は天幕の入口にすわっていたが、 |
| 18-2 |
and he lifted up his eyes and looked, and, lo, three men stood over against
him: and when he saw them, he ran to meet them from the tent door, and
bowed himself to the earth, |
目を上げて見ると、三人の人が彼に向かって立っていた。彼はこれを見て、天幕の入口から走って行って彼らを迎え、地に身をかがめて、 |
| 18-3 |
and said, My lord, if now I have found favor in thy sight, pass not away,
I pray thee, from thy servant: |
言った、「わが主よ、もしわたしがあなたの前に恵みを得ているなら、どうぞしもべを通り過ごさないでください。 |
| 18-4 |
let now a little water be fetched, and wash your feet, and rest yourselves
under the tree: |
水をすこし取ってこさせますから、あなたがたは足を洗って、この木の下でお休みください。 |
| 18-5 |
and I will fetch a morsel of bread, and strengthen ye your heart; after
that ye shall pass on: forasmuch as ye are come to your servant. And they
said, So do, as thou hast said. |
わたしは一口のパンを取ってきます。元気をつけて、それからお出かけください。せっかくしもべの所においでになったのですから」。彼らは言った、「お言葉どおりにしてください」。

And Abraham hastened into the tent unto Sarah, and said, Make ready quickly
three measures of fine meal, knead it, and make cakes. |
そこでアブラハムは急いで天幕に入り、サラの所に行って言った、「急いで細かい麦粉三セヤをとり、こねてパンを造りなさい」。 |
| 18-7 |
And Abraham ran unto the herd, and fetched a calf tender and good, and
gave it unto the servant; and he hasted to dress it. |
アブラハムは牛の群れに走って行き、柔らかな良い子牛を取って若者に渡したので、急いで調理した。 |
| 18-8 |
And he took butter, and milk, and the calf which he had dressed,
and set it before them; and he stood by them under the tree, and they did eat. |
そしてアブラハムは凝乳と牛乳および子牛の調理したものを取って、彼らの前に供え、木の下で彼らのかたわらに立って給仕し、彼らは食事した。 |
| 18-9 |
And they said unto him, Where is Sarah thy wife? And he said, Behold, in
the tent. |
彼らはアブラハムに言った、「あなたの妻サラはどこにおられますか」。彼は言った、「天幕の中です」。 |
| 18-10 |
And he said, I will certainly return unto thee when the season cometh round;
and, lo, Sarah thy wife shall have a son. And Sarah heard in the tent door,
which was behind him. |
そのひとりが言った、「来年の春、わたしはかならずあなたの所に帰ってきましょう。その時、あなたの妻サラには男の子が生れているでしょう」。サラはうしろの方の天幕の入口で聞いていた。 |
| 18-11 |
Now Abraham and Sarah were old, and well stricken in age; it had ceased to be with Sarah after the manner
of women. |
さてアブラハムとサラとは年がすすみ、老人となり、サラは女の月のものが、すでに止まっていた。 |
| 18-12 |
And Sarah laughed within herself, saying, After I am waxed old shall I
have pleasure, my lord being old also? |
それでサラは心の中で笑って言った、「わたしは衰え、主人もまた老人であるのに、わたしに楽しみなどありえようか」。 |
| 18-13 |
And Jehovah said unto Abraham, Wherefore did Sarah laugh, saying, Shall
I of a surety bear a child, who am old? |
主はアブラハムに言われた、「なぜサラは、わたしは老人であるのに、どうして子を産むことができようかと言って笑ったのか。 |
| 18-14 |
Is anything too hard for Jehovah? At the set time I will return unto thee,
when the season cometh round, and Sarah shall have a son. |
主にとって不可能なことがありましょうか。来年の春、定めの時に、わたしはあなたの所に帰ってきます。そのときサラには男の子が生れているでしょう」。 |
| 18-15 |
Then Sarah denied, saying, I laughed not; for she was afraid. And
he said, Nay; but thou didst laugh. |
サラは恐れたので、これを打ち消して言った、「わたしは笑いません」。主は言われた、「いや、あなたは笑いました」。 |
| 18-16 |
And the men rose up from thence, and looked toward Sodom: and Abraham went
with them to bring them on the way. |
その人々はそこを立ってソドムの方に向かったので、アブラハムは彼らを見送って共に行った。 |
| 18-17 |
And Jehovah said, Shall I hide from Abraham that which I do; |
時に主は言われた、「わたしのしようとする事をアブラハムに隠してよいであろうか。 |
| 18-18 |
seeing that Abraham had surely become a great and mighty nation, and all
the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him? |
アブラハムは必ず大きな強い国民となって、地のすべての民がみな、彼によって祝福を受けるのではないか。 |
| 18-19 |
For I have known him, to the end that he may command his children and his
household after him, that they may keep the way of Jehovah, to do righteousness
and justice; to the end that Jehovah may bring upon Abraham that which
he hath spoken of him. |
わたしは彼が後の子らと家族とに命じて主の道を守らせ、正義と公道とを行わせるために彼を知ったのである。これは主がかつてアブラハムについて言った事を彼の上に臨ませるためである」。

And Jehovah said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because
their sin is very grievous; |
主はまた言われた、「ソドムとゴモラの叫びは大きく、またその罪は非常に重いので、 |
| 18-21 |
I will go down now, and see whether they have done altogether
according to the cry of it, which is come unto me; and if not, I will know. |
わたしはいま下って、わたしに届いた叫びのとおりに、すべて彼らがおこなっているかどうかを見て、それを知ろう」。 |
| 18-22 |
And the men turned from thence, and went toward Sodom: but Abraham stood
yet before Jehovah. |
その人々はそこから身を巡らしてソドムの方に行ったが、アブラハムはなお、主の前に立っていた。 |
| 18-23 |
And Abraham drew near, and said, Wilt thou consume the righteous with the
wicked? |
アブラハムは近寄って言った、「まことにあなたは正しい者を、悪い者と一緒に滅ぼされるのですか。 |
| 18-24 |
Peradventure there are fifty righteous within the city: wilt thou consume
and not spare the place for the fifty righteous that are therein? |
たとい、あの町に五十人の正しい者があっても、あなたはなお、その所を滅ぼし、その中にいる五十人の正しい者のためにこれをゆるされないのですか。 |
| 18-25 |
That be far from thee to do after this manner, to slay the righteous with
the wicked, that so the righteous should be as the wicked; that be far
from thee: shall not the Judge of all the earth do right? |
正しい者と悪い者とを一緒に殺すようなことを、あなたは決してなさらないでしょう。正しい者と悪い者とを同じようにすることも、あなたは決してなさらないでしょう。全地をさばく者は公義を行うべきではありませんか」。

| 18-26 |
And Jehovah said, If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then
I will spare all the place for their sake. |
主は言われた、「もしソドムで町の中に五十人の正しい者があったら、その人々のためにその所をすべてゆるそう」。 |
| 18-27 |
And Abraham answered and said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak
unto the Lord, who am but dust and ashes: |
アブラハムは答えて言った、「わたしはちり灰に過ぎませんが、あえてわが主に申します。 |
| 18-28 |
peradventure there shall lack five of the fifty righteous: wilt thou destroy
all the city for lack of five? And he said, I will not destroy it, if I
find there forty and five. |
もし五十人の正しい者のうち五人欠けたなら、その五人欠けたために町を全く滅ぼされますか」。主は言われた、「もしそこに四十五人いたら、滅ぼさないであろう」。

And he spake unto him yet again, and said, Peradventure there shall be
forty found there. And he said, I will not do it for the forty’s sake. |
アブラハムはまた重ねて主に言った、「もしそこに四十人いたら」。主は言われた、「その四十人のために、これをしないであろう」。 |
| 18-30 |
And he said, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak: peradventure
there shall thirty be found there. And he said, I will not do it, if I
find thirty there. |
アブラハムは言った、「わが主よ、どうかお怒りにならぬよう。わたしは申します。もしそこに三十人いたら」。主は言われた、「そこに三十人いたら、これをしないであろう」。 |
| 18-31 |
And he said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the Lord: peradventure
there shall be twenty found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for
the twenty’s sake. |
アブラハムは言った、「いまわたしはあえてわが主に申します。もしそこに二十人いたら」。主は言われた、「わたしはその二十人のために滅ぼさないであろう」。

| 18-32 |
And he said, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak yet but this
once: peradventure ten shall be found there. And he said, I will not destroy
it for the ten’s sake. |
アブラハムは言った、「わが主よ、どうかお怒りにならぬよう。わたしはいま一度申します、もしそこに十人いたら」。主は言われた、「わたしはその十人のために滅ぼさないであろう」。

And Jehovah went his way, as soon as he had left off communing
with Abraham: and Abraham returned unto his place. |
主はアブラハムと語り終り、去って行かれた。アブラハムは自分の所に帰った。 |
