| 19-1 |
And the two angels came to Sodom at even; and Lot sat in the gate of Sodom:
and Lot saw them, and rose up to meet them; and he bowed himself with his
face to the earth; |
そのふたりのみ使は夕暮にソドムに着いた。そのときロトはソドムの門にすわっていた。ロトは彼らを見て、立って迎え、地に伏して、 |
| 19-2 |
and he said, Behold now, my lords, turn aside, I pray you, into your servant’s
house, and tarry all night, and wash your feet, and ye shall rise up early,
and go on your way. And they said, Nay; but we will abide in the street
all night. |
言った、「わが主よ、どうぞしもべの家に立寄って足を洗い、お泊まりください。そして朝早く起きてお立ちください」。彼らは言った、「いや、われわれは広場で夜を過ごします」。 |
| 19-3 |
And he urged them greatly; and they turned in unto him, and entered into
his house; and he made them a feast, and did bake unleavened bread, and
they did eat. |
しかしロトがしいて勧めたので、彼らはついに彼の所に寄り、家にはいった。ロトは彼らのためにふるまいを設け、種入れぬパンを焼いて食べさせた。 |
| 19-4 |
But before they lay down, the men of the city, even the men of Sodom, compassed the house round, both young and old, all the
people from every quarter; |
ところが彼らの寝ないうちに、ソドムの町の人々は、若い者も老人も、民がみな四方からきて、その家を囲み、 |
| 19-5 |
and they called unto Lot, and said unto him, Where are the men that came
in to thee this night? bring them out unto us, that we may know them. |
ロトに叫んで言った、「今夜おまえの所にきた人々はどこにいるか。それをここに出しなさい。われわれは彼らを知るであろう」。 |
| 19-6 |
And Lot went out unto them to the door, and shut the door after
him. |
ロトは入口におる彼らの所に出て行き、うしろの戸を閉じて、 |
| 19-7 |
And he said, I pray you, my brethren, do not so wickedly. |
言った、「兄弟たちよ、どうか悪い事はしないでください。 |
| 19-8 |
Behold now, I have two daughters that have not known man; let me, I pray
you, bring them out unto you, and do ye to them as is good in your eyes:
only unto these men do nothing, forasmuch as they are come under the shadow
of my roof. |
わたしにまだ男を知らない娘がふたりあります。わたしはこれをあなたがたに、さし出しますから、好きなようにしてください。ただ、わたしの屋根の下にはいったこの人たちには、何もしないでください」。 |
| 19-9 |
And they said, Stand back. And they said, This one fellow came in to sojourn,
and he will needs be a judge: now will we deal worse with thee, than with
them. And they pressed sore upon the man, even Lot, and drew near to break
the door. |
彼らは言った、「退け」。また言った、「この男は渡ってきたよそ者であるのに、いつも、さばきびとになろうとする。それで、われわれは彼らに加えるよりも、おまえに多くの害を加えよう」。彼らはロトの身に激しく迫り、進み寄って戸を破ろうとした。 |
| 19-10 |
But the men put forth their hand, and brought Lot into the house to them,
and shut to the door. |
その時、かのふたりは手を伸べてロトを家の内に引き入れ、戸を閉じた。 |
| 19-11 |
And they smote the men that were at the door of the house with
blindness, both small and great, so that they wearied themselves to find the
door. |
家の入口におる人々を、老若の別なく打って目をくらましたので、彼らは入口を捜すのに疲れた。 |
| 19-12 |
And the men said unto Lot, Hast thou here any besides? son-in-law, and
thy sons, and thy daughters, and whomsoever thou hast in the city, bring
them out of the place: |
ふたりはロトに言った、「ほかにあなたの身内の者がここにおりますか。あなたのむこ、むすこ、娘およびこの町におるあなたの身内の者を、皆ここから連れ出しなさい。 |
| 19-13 |
for we will destroy this place, because the cry of them is waxed great
before Jehovah: and Jehovah hath sent us to destroy it. |
われわれがこの所を滅ぼそうとしているからです。人々の叫びが主の前に大きくなり、主はこの所を滅ぼすために、われわれをつかわされたのです」。

| 19-14 |
And Lot went out, and spake unto his sons-in-law, who married his daughters,
and said, Up, get you out of this place; for Jehovah will destroy the city.
But he seemed unto his sons-in-law as one that mocked. |
そこでロトは出て行って、その娘たちをめとるむこたちに告げて言った、「立ってこの所から出なさい。主がこの町を滅ぼされます」。しかしそれはむこたちには戯むれごとに思えた。 |
| 19-15 |
And when the morning arose, then the angels hastened Lot, saying, Arise,
take thy wife, and thy two daughters that are here, lest thou be consumed
in the iniquity of the city. |
夜が明けて、み使たちはロトを促して言った 「立って、ここにいるあなたの妻とふたりの娘とを連れ出しなさい。そうしなければ、あなたもこの町の不義のために滅ぼされるでしょう」。

| 19-16 |
But he lingered; and the men laid hold upon his hand, and upon the hand
of his wife, and upon the hand of his two daughters, Jehovah being merciful
unto him; and they brought him forth, and set him without the city. |
彼はためらっていたが、主は彼にあわれみを施されたので、かのふたりは彼の手と、その妻の手と、ふたりの娘の手を取って連れ出し、町の外に置いた。

| 19-17 |
And it came to pass, when they had brought them forth abroad, that he said,
Escape for thy life; look not behind thee, neither stay thou in all the
Plain; escape to the mountain, lest thou be consumed. |
彼らを外に連れ出した時そのひとりは言った、「のがれて、自分の命を救いなさい。うしろをふりかえって見てはならない。低地にはどこにも立ち止まってはならない。山にのがれなさい。そうしなければ、あなたは滅びます」。

And Lot said unto them, Oh, not so, my lord: |
ロトは彼らに言った、「わが主よ、どうか、そうさせないでください。 |
| 19-19 |
behold now, thy servant hath found favor in thy sight, and thou hast magnified
thy lovingkindness, which thou hast showed unto me in saving my life; and
I cannot escape to the mountain, lest evil overtake me, and I die: |
しもべはすでにあなたの前に恵みを得ました。あなたはわたしの命を救って、大いなるいつくしみを施されました。しかしわたしは山まではのがれる事ができません。災が身に追い迫ってわたしは死ぬでしょう。 |
| 19-20 |
behold now, this city is near to flee unto, and it is a little one. Oh
let me escape thither (is it not a little one?), and my soul shall live. |
あの町をごらんなさい。逃げていくのに近く、また小さい町です。どうかわたしをそこにのがれさせてください。それは小さいではありませんか。そうすればわたしの命は助かるでしょう」。

And he said unto him, See, I have accepted thee concerning this thing also,
that I will not overthrow the city of which thou hast spoken. |
み使は彼に言った、「わたしはこの事でもあなたの願いをいれて、あなたの言うその町は滅ぼしません。 |
| 19-22 |
Haste thee, escape thither; for I cannot do anything till thou be
come thither. Therefore the name of the city was called Zoar. |
急いでそこへのがれなさい。あなたがそこに着くまでは、わたしは何事もすることができません」。これによって、その町の名はゾアルと呼ばれた。 |
| 19-23 |
The sun was risen upon the earth when Lot came unto Zoar. |
ロトがゾアルに着いた時、日は地の上にのぼった。 |
| 19-24 |
Then Jehovah rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from
Jehovah out of heaven; |
主は硫黄と火とを主の所すなわち天からソドムとゴモラの上に降らせて、 |
| 19-25 |
and he overthrew those cities, and all the Plain, and all the inhabitants
of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground. |
これらの町と、すべての低地と、その町々のすべての住民と、その地にはえている物を、ことごとく滅ぼされた。 |
| 19-26 |
But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt. |
しかしロトの妻はうしろを顧みたので塩の柱になった。 |
| 19-27 |
And Abraham gat up early in the morning to the place where he had stood
before Jehovah: |
アブラハムは朝早く起き、さきに主の前に立った所に行って、 |
| 19-28 |
and he looked toward Sodom and Gomorrah, and toward all the land
of the Plain, and beheld, and, lo, the smoke of the land went up as the smoke of
a furnace. |
ソドムとゴモラの方、および低地の全面をながめると、その地の煙が、かまどの煙のように立ちのぼっていた。 |
| 19-29 |
And it came to pass, when God destroyed the cities of the Plain,
that God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow,
when he overthrew the cities in which Lot dwelt. |
こうして神が低地の町々をこぼたれた時、すなわちロトの住んでいた町々を滅ぼされた時、神はアブラハムを覚えて、その滅びの中からロトを救い出された。 |
| 19-30 |
And Lot went up out of Zoar, and dwelt in the mountain, and his two daughters
with him; for he feared to dwell in Zoar: and he dwelt in a cave, he and
his two daughters. |
ロトはゾアルを出て上り、ふたりの娘と共に山に住んだ。ゾアルに住むのを恐れたからである。彼はふたりの娘と共に、ほら穴の中に住んだ。

| 19-31 |
And the first-born said unto the younger, Our father is old, and there
is not a man in the earth to come in unto us after the manner of all the
earth: |
時に姉が妹に言った、「わたしたちの父は老い、またこの地には世のならわしのように、わたしたちの所に来る男はいません。 |
| 19-32 |
come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that
we may preserve seed of our father. |
さあ、父に酒を飲ませ、共に寝て、父によって子を残しましょう」。 |
| 19-33 |
And they made their father drink wine that night: and the first-born went
in, and lay with her father; and he knew not when she lay down, nor when
she arose. |
彼女たちはその夜、父に酒を飲ませ、姉がはいって父と共に寝た。ロトは娘が寝たのも、起きたのも知らなかった。 |
| 19-34 |
And it came to pass on the morrow, that the first-born said unto
the younger, Behold, I lay yesternight with my father: let us make him drink
wine this night also; and go thou in, and lie with him, that we may preserve
seed of our father. |
あくる日、姉は妹に言った、「わたしは昨夜、父と寝ました。わたしたちは今夜もまた父に酒を飲ませましょう。そしてあなたがはいって共に寝なさい。わたしたちは父によって子を残しましょう」。

And they made their father drink wine that night also: and the younger
arose, and lay with him; and he knew not when she lay down, nor when she
arose. |
彼らはその夜もまた父に酒を飲ませ、妹が行って父と共に寝た。ロトは娘の寝たのも、起きたのも知らなかった。 |
| 19-36 |
Thus were both the daughters of Lot with child by their father. |
こうしてロトのふたりの娘たちは父によってはらんだ。 |
| 19-37 |
And the first-born bare a son, and called his name Moab: the same is the
father of the Moabites unto this day. |
姉娘は子を産み、その名をモアブと名づけた。これは今のモアブびとの先祖である。 |
| 19-38 |
And the younger, she also bare a son, and called his name
Ben-ammi: the same is the father of the children of Ammon unto this day. |
妹もまた子を産んで、その名をベニアンミと名づけた。これは今のアンモンびとの先祖である。 |
