| 3-1 |
Now the serpent was more subtle than any beast of the field which Jehovah
God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall
not eat of any tree of the garden? |
さて主なる神が造られた野の生き物のうちで、へびが最も狡猾であった。へびは女に言った、「園にあるどの木からも取って食べるなと、ほんとうに神が言われたのですか」。 |

And the woman said unto the serpent, Of the fruit of the trees of the garden
we may eat: |
女はへびに言った、「わたしたちは園の木の実を食べることは許されていますが、 |
| 3-3 |
but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath
said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. |
ただ園の中央にある木の実については、これを取って食べるな、これに触れるな、死んではいけないからと、神は言われました」。 |
| 3-4 |
And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: |
へびは女に言った、「あなたがたは決して死ぬことはないでしょう。 |
| 3-5 |
for God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall
be opened, and ye shall be as God, knowing good and evil. |
それを食べると、あなたがたの目が開け、神のように善悪を知る者となることを、神は知っておられるのです」。 |
| 3-6 |
And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was
a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one
wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat; and she gave also unto
her husband with her, and he did eat. |
女がその木を見ると、それは食べるに良く、目には美しく、賢くなるには好ましいと思われたから、その実を取って食べ、また共にいた夫にも与えたので、彼も食べた。 |

And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked;
and they sewed fig-leaves together, and made themselves aprons. |
すると、ふたりの目が開け、自分たちの裸であることがわかったので、いちじくの葉をつづり合わせて、腰に巻いた。 |
| 3-8 |
And they heard the voice of Jehovah God walking in the garden in
the cool of the day: and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence
of Jehovah God amongst the trees of the garden. |
彼らは、日の涼しい風の吹くころ、園の中に主なる神の歩まれる音を聞いた。そこで、人とその妻とは主なる神の顔を避けて、園の木の間に身を隠した。

And Jehovah God called unto the man, and said unto him, Where art
thou? |
主なる神は人に呼びかけて言われた、「あなたはどこにいるのか」。 |
| 3-10 |
And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because
I was naked; and I hid myself. |
彼は答えた、「園の中であなたの歩まれる音を聞き、わたしは裸だったので、恐れて身を隠したのです」。 |
| 3-11 |
And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the
tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat? |
神は言われた、「あなたが裸であるのを、だれが知らせたのか。食べるなと、命じておいた木から、あなたは取って食べたのか」。 |
| 3-12 |
And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me
of the tree, and I did eat. |
人は答えた、「わたしと一緒にしてくださったあの女が、木から取ってくれたので、わたしは食べたのです」。 |
| 3-13 |
And Jehovah God said unto the woman, What is this thou hast done? And the
woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat. |
そこで主なる神は女に言われた、「あなたは、なんということをしたのです」。女は答えた、「へびがわたしをだましたのです。それでわたしは食べました」。

And Jehovah God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, cursed
art thou above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy
belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life: |
主なる神はへびに言われた、「おまえは、この事を、したので、すべての家畜、野のすべての獣のうち、最ものろわれる。おまえは腹で、這いあるき、一生、ちりを食べるであろう。 |
| 3-15 |
and I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed
and her seed: he shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. |
わたしは恨みをおく、おまえと女とのあいだに、おまえのすえと女のすえとの間に。彼はおまえのかしらを砕き、おまえは彼のかかとを砕くであろう」。

| 3-16 |
Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy pain and thy
conception; in pain thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to
thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.

つぎに女に言われた、「わたしはあなたの産みの苦しみを大いに増す。あなたは苦しんで子を産む。それでもなお、あなたは夫を慕い、彼はあなたを治めるであろう」。 |
| 3-17 |
And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy
wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou
shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in toil shalt thou
eat of it all the days of thy life; |
更に人に言われた、「あなたが妻の言葉を聞いて、食べるなと、わたしが命じた木から取って食べたので、地はあなたのためにのろわれ、あなたは一生、苦しんで地から食物を取る。

thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat
the herb of the field; |
地はあなたのために、いばらとあざみとを生じ、あなたは野の草を食べるであろう。 |
| 3-19 |
in the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the
ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust
shalt thou return. |
あなたは顔に汗してパンを食べ、ついに土に帰る、あなたは土から取られたのだから。あなたは、ちりだから、ちりに帰る」。 |
| 3-20 |
And the man called his wife’s name Eve; because she was the mother of all
living. |
さて、人はその妻の名をエバと名づけた。彼女がすべて生きた者の母だからである。 |
| 3-21 |
And Jehovah God made for Adam and for his wife coats of skins, and
clothed them. |
主なる神は人とその妻とのために皮の着物を造って、彼らに着せられた。 |
| 3-22 |
And Jehovah God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good
and evil; and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree
of life, and eat, and live for ever |
主なる神は言われた、「見よ、人はわれわれのひとりのようになり、善悪を知るものとなった。彼は手を伸べ、命の木からも取って食べ、永久に生きるかも知れない」。

therefore Jehovah God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the
ground from whence he was taken. |
そこで主なる神は彼をエデンの園から追い出して、人が造られたその土を耕させられた。 |
| 3-24 |
So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden
of Eden the Cherubim, and the flame of a sword which turned every way, to keep
the way of the tree of life. |
神は人を追い出し、エデンの園の東に、ケルビムと、回る炎のつるぎとを置いて、命の木の道を守らせられた。 |
