| 33-1 |
And Jacob lifted up his eyes, and looked, and, behold, Esau was coming, and with him four hundred men. And he divided the children unto Leah, and unto Rachel, and unto the two handmaids. |
さてヤコブは目をあげ、エサウが四百人を率いて来るのを見た。そこで彼は子供たちを分けてレアとラケルとふたりのつかえめとにわたし、 |

And he put the handmaids and their children foremost, and Leah and her children after, and Rachel and Joseph hindermost. |
つかえめとその子供たちをまっ先に置き、レアとその子供たちを次に置き、ラケルとヨセフを最後に置いて、 |
| 33-3 |
And he himself passed over before them, and bowed himself to the ground seven times, until he came near to his brother. |
みずから彼らの前に進み、七たび身を地にかがめて、兄に近づいた。 |
| 33-4 |
And Esau ran to meet him, and embraced him, and fell on his neck, and kissed him: and they wept. |
するとエサウは走ってきて迎え、彼を抱き、そのくびをかかえて口づけし、共に泣いた。 |
| 33-5 |
And he lifted up his eyes, and saw the women and the children; and said, Who are these with thee? And he said, The children whom God hath graciously given thy servant. |
エサウは目をあげて女と子供たちを見て言った、「あなたと一緒にいるこれらの者はだれですか」。ヤコブは言った、「神がしもべに授けられた子供たちです」。 |
| 33-6 |
Then the handmaids came near, they and their children, and they bowed themselves. |
そこでつかえめたちはその子供たちと共に近寄ってお辞儀した。 |
| 33-7 |
And Leah also and her children came near, and bowed themselves: and after came Joseph near and Rachel, and they bowed themselves. |
レアもまたその子供たちと共に近寄ってお辞儀し、それからヨセフとラケルが近寄ってお辞儀した。 |
| 33-8 |
And he said, What meanest thou by all this company which I met? And he said, To find favor in the sight of my lord. |
するとエサウは言った、「わたしが出会ったあのすべての群れはどうしたのですか」。ヤコブは言った、「わが主の前に恵みを得るためです」。 |
| 33-9 |
And Esau said, I have enough, my brother; let that which thou hast be thine. |
エサウは言った、「弟よ、わたしはじゅうぶんもっている。あなたの物はあなたのものにしなさい」。 |
| 33-10 |
And Jacob said, Nay, I pray thee, if now I have found favor in thy sight, then receive my present at my hand; forasmuch as I have seen thy face, as one seeth the face of God, and thou wast pleased with me. |
ヤコブは言った、「いいえ、もしわたしがあなたの前に恵みを得るなら、どうか、わたしの手から贈り物を受けてください。あなたが喜んでわたしを迎えてくださるので、あなたの顔を見て、神の顔を見るように思います。 |
| 33-11 |
Take, I pray thee, my gift that is brought to thee; because God hath dealt graciously with me, and because I have enough. And he urged him, and he took it. |
どうかわたしが持ってきた贈り物を受けてください。神がわたしを恵まれたので、わたしはじゅうぶんもっていますから」。こうして彼がしいたので、彼は受け取った。 |
| 33-12 |
And he said, Let us take our journey, and let us go, and I will go before thee. |
そしてエサウは言った、「さあ、立って行こう。わたしが先に行く」。 |
| 33-13 |
And he said unto him, My lord knoweth that the children are tender, and that the flocks and herds with me have their young: and if they overdrive them one day, all the flocks will die. |
ヤコブは彼に言った、「ごぞんじのように、子供たちは、かよわく、また乳を飲ませている羊や牛をわたしが世話をしています。もし一日でも歩かせ過ぎたら群れはみな死んでしまいます。 |
| 33-14 |
Let my lord, I pray thee, pass over before his servant: and I will lead on gently, according to the pace of the cattle that are before me and according to the pace of the children, until I come unto my lord unto Seir. |
わが主よ、どうか、しもべの先においでください。わたしはわたしの前にいる家畜と子供たちの歩みに合わせて、ゆっくり歩いて行き、セイルでわが主と一緒になりましょう」。 |
| 33-15 |
And Esau said, Let me now leave with thee some of the folk that are with me. And he said, What needeth it? let me find favor in the sight of my lord. |
エサウは言った、「それならわたしが連れている者どものうち幾人かをあなたのもとに残しましょう」。ヤコブは言った、「いいえ、それには及びません。わが主の前に恵みを得させてください」。 |
| 33-16 |
So Esau returned that day on his way unto Seir. |
その日エサウはセイルへの帰途についた。 |
| 33-17 |
And Jacob journeyed to Succoth, and built him a house, and made booths for his cattle: therefore the name of the place is called Succoth. |
ヤコブは立ってスコテに行き、自分のために家を建て、また家畜のために小屋を造った。これによってその所の名はスコテと呼ばれている。 |
| 33-18 |
And Jacob came in peace to the city of Shechem, which is in the land of Canaan, when he came from Paddan-aram; and encamped before the city. |
こうしてヤコブはパダンアラムからきて、無事カナンの地のシケムの町に着き、町の前に宿営した。 |
| 33-19 |
And he bought the parcel of ground, where he had spread his tent, at the
hand of the children of Hamor, Shechem’s father, for a hundred pieces of
money. |
彼は天幕を張った野の一部をシケムの父ハモルの子らの手から百ケシタで買い取り、 |
| 33-20 |
And he erected there an altar, and called it El-Elohe-Israel. |
そこに祭壇を建てて、これをエル・エロヘ・イスラエルと名づけた。 |
