| 44-1 |
And he commanded the steward of his house, saying, Fill the men’s sacks with food, as much as they can carry, and put every man’s money in his sack’s mouth. |
さてヨセフは家づかさに命じて言った、「この人々の袋に、運べるだけ多くの食糧を満たし、めいめいの銀を袋の口に入れておきなさい。 |
| 44-2 |
And put my cup, the silver cup, in the sack’s mouth of the youngest, and his grain money. And he did according to the word that Joseph had spoken. |
またわたしの杯、銀の杯をあの年下の者の袋の口に、穀物の代金と共に入れておきなさい」。家づかさはヨセフの言葉のとおりにした。 |
| 44-3 |
As soon as the morning was light, the men were sent away, they and their asses. |
夜が明けると、その人々と、ろばとは送り出されたが、 |
| 44-4 |
And when they were gone out of the city, and were not yet far off, Joseph said unto his steward, Up, follow after the men; and when thou dost overtake them, say unto them, Wherefore have ye rewarded evil for good? |
町を出て、まだ遠くへ行かないうちに、ヨセフは家づかさに言った、「立って、あの人々のあとを追いなさい。追いついて、彼らに言いなさい、『あなたがたはなぜ悪をもって善に報いるのですか。なぜわたしの銀の杯を盗んだのですか。 |

Is not this that in which my lord drinketh, and whereby he indeed divineth? ye have done evil in so doing. |
これはわたしの主人が飲む時に使い、またいつも占いに用いるものではありませんか。あなたがたのした事は悪いことです』」。 |
| 44-6 |
And he overtook them, and he spake unto them these words. |
家づかさが彼らに追いついて、これらの言葉を彼らに告げたとき、 |
| 44-7 |
And they said unto him, Wherefore speaketh my lord such words as these? Far be it from thy servants that they should do such a thing. |
彼らは言った、「わが主は、どうしてそのようなことを言われるのですか。しもべらは決してそのようなことはいたしません。 |
| 44-8 |
Behold, the money, which we found in our sacks’ mouths, we brought again unto thee out of the land of Canaan: how then should we steal out of thy lord’s house silver or gold? |
袋の口で見つけた銀でさえ、カナンの地からあなたの所に持ち帰ったほどです。どうして、われわれは御主人の家から銀や金を盗みましょう。 |
| 44-9 |
With whomsoever of thy servants it be found, let him die, and we also will be my lord’s bondmen. |
しもべらのうちのだれの所でそれが見つかっても、その者は死に、またわれわれはわが主の奴隷となりましょう」。 |
| 44-10 |
And he said, Now also let it be according unto your words: he with whom it is found shall be my bondman; and ye shall be blameless. |
家づかさは言った、「それではあなたがたの言葉のようにしよう。杯の見つかった者はわたしの奴隷とならなければならない。ほかの者は無罪です」。 |
| 44-11 |
Then they hasted, and took down every man his sack to the ground, and opened every man his sack. |
そこで彼らは、めいめい急いで袋を地におろし、ひとりひとりその袋を開いた。 |
| 44-12 |
And he searched, and began at the eldest, and left off at the youngest: and the cup was found in Benjamin’s sack. |
家づかさは年上から捜し始めて年下に終ったが、杯はベニヤミンの袋の中にあった。 |
| 44-13 |
Then they rent their clothes, and laded every man his ass, and returned to the city. |
そこで彼らは衣服を裂き、おのおの、ろばに荷を負わせて町に引き返した。 |
| 44-14 |
And Judah and his brethren came to Joseph’s house; and he was yet there: and they fell before him on the ground. |
ユダと兄弟たちとは、ヨセフの家にはいったが、ヨセフがなおそこにいたので、彼らはその前で地にひれ伏した。 |
| 44-15 |
And Joseph said unto them, What deed is this that ye have done? know ye not that such a man as I can indeed divine? |
ヨセフは彼らに言った、「あなたがたのこのしわざは何事ですか。わたしのような人は、必ず占い当てることを知らないのですか」。 |
| 44-16 |
And Judah said, What shall we say unto my lord? what shall we speak? or how shall we clear ourselves? God hath found out the iniquity of thy servants: behold, we are my lord’s bondmen, both we, and he also in whose hand the cup is found. |
ユダは言った、「われわれはわが主に何を言い、何を述べ得ましょう。どうしてわれわれは身の潔白をあらわし得ましょう。神がしもべらの罪をあばかれました。われわれと、杯を持っていた者とは共にわが主の奴隷となりましょう」。 |
| 44-17 |
And he said, Far be it from me that I should do so: the man in whose hand the cup is found, he shall be my bondman; but as for you, get you up in peace unto your father. |
ヨセフは言った、「わたしは決してそのようなことはしない。杯を持っている者だけがわたしの奴隷とならなければならない。ほかの者は安全に父のもとへ上って行きなさい」。 |
| 44-18 |
Then Judah came near unto him, and said, Oh, my lord, let thy servant, I pray thee, speak a word in my lord’s ears, and let not thine anger burn against thy servant; for thou art even as Pharaoh. |
この時ユダは彼に近づいて言った、「ああ、わが主よ、どうぞわが主の耳にひとこと言わせてください。しもべをおこらないでください。あなたはパロのようなかたです。 |
| 44-19 |
My lord asked his servants, saying, Have ye a father, or a brother? |
わが主はしもべらに尋ねて、『父があるか、また弟があるか』と言われたので、 |
| 44-20 |
And we said unto my lord, We have a father, an old man, and a child of his old age, a little one; and his brother is dead, and he alone is left of his mother; and his father loveth him. |
われわれはわが主に言いました、『われわれには老齢の父があり、また年寄り子の弟があります。その兄は死んで、同じ母の子で残っているのは、ただこれだけですから父はこれを愛しています』。 |
| 44-21 |
And thou saidst unto thy servants, Bring him down unto me, that I may set mine eyes upon him. |
その時あなたはしもべらに言われました、『その者をわたしの所へ連れてきなさい。わたしはこの目で彼を見よう』。 |
| 44-22 |
And we said unto my lord, The lad cannot leave his father: for if he should leave his father, his father would die. |
われわれはわが主に言いました。『その子供は父を離れることができません。もし父を離れたら父は死ぬでしょう』。 |
| 44-23 |
And thou saidst unto thy servants, Except your youngest brother come down with you, ye shall see my face no more. |
しかし、あなたはしもべらに言われました、『末の弟が一緒に下ってこなければ、おまえたちは再びわたしの顔を見ることはできない』。 |
| 44-24 |
And it came to pass when we came up unto thy servant my father, we told him the words of my lord. |
それであなたのしもべである父のもとに上って、わが主の言葉を彼に告げました。 |
| 44-25 |
And our father said, Go again, buy us a little food. |
ところで、父が『おまえたちは再び行って、われわれのために少しの食糧を買ってくるように』と言ったので、 |
| 44-26 |
And we said, We cannot go down: if our youngest brother be with us, then will we go down: for we may not see the man’s face, expect our youngest brother be with us. |
われわれは言いました、『われわれは下って行けません。もし末の弟が一緒であれば行きましょう。末の弟が一緒でなければ、あの人の顔を見ることができません』。 |
| 44-27 |
And thy servant my father said unto us, Ye know that my wife bare me two sons: |
あなたのしもべである父は言いました、『おまえたちの知っているとおり、妻はわたしにふたりの子を産んだ。 |
| 44-28 |
and the one went out from me, and I said, Surely he is torn in pieces; and I have not seen him since: |
ひとりは外へ出たが、きっと裂き殺されたのだと思う。わたしは今になっても彼を見ない。 |
| 44-29 |
and if ye take this one also from me, and harm befall him, ye will bring down my gray hairs with sorrow to Sheol. |
もしおまえたちがこの子をもわたしから取って行って、彼が災に会えば、おまえたちは、しらがのわたしを悲しんで陰府に下らせるであろう』。 |
| 44-30 |
Now therefore when I come to thy servant my father, and the lad is not with us; seeing that his life is bound up in the lad’s life; |
わたしがあなたのしもべである父のもとに帰って行くとき、もしこの子供が一緒にいなかったら、どうなるでしょう。父の魂は子供の魂に結ばれているのです。 |
| 44-31 |
it will come to pass, when he seeth that the lad is not with us, that he will die: and thy servants will bring down the gray hairs of thy servant our father with sorrow to Sheol. |
この子供がわれわれと一緒にいないのを見たら、父は死ぬでしょう。そうすればしもべらは、あなたのしもべであるしらがの父を悲しんで陰府に下らせることになるでしょう。 |
| 44-32 |
For thy servant became surety for the lad unto my father, saying, If I bring him not unto thee, then shall I bear the blame to my father for ever. |
しもべは父にこの子供の身を請け合って『もしわたしがこの子をあなたのもとに連れ帰らなかったら、わたしは父に対して永久に罪を負いましょう』と言ったのです。 |
| 44-33 |
Now therefore, let thy servant, I pray thee, abide instead of the lad a bondman to my lord; and let the lad go up with his brethren. |
どうか、しもべをこの子供の代りに、わが主の奴隷としてとどまらせ、この子供を兄弟たちと一緒に上り行かせてください、 |
| 44-34 |
For how shall I go up to my father, if the lad be not with me? lest I see the evil that shall come on my father. |
この子供を連れずに、どうしてわたしは父のもとに上り行くことができましょう。父が災に会うのを見るに忍びません」。 |
