34-1 Moreover Elihu answered and said, エリフはまた答えて言った、
34-2 Hear my words, ye wise men;And give ear unto me, ye that have knowledge. 「あなたがた知恵ある人々よ、わたしの言葉を聞け、あなたがた知識ある人々よ、わたしに耳を傾けよ。
34-3 For the ear trieth words,As the palate tasteth food. 口が食物を味わうように、耳は言葉をわきまえるからだ。
34-4 Let us choose for us that which is right:Let us know among ourselves what is good. われわれは正しい事を選び、われわれの間に良い事の何であるかを明らかにしよう。
34-5 For Job hath said, I am righteous,And God hath taken away my right: ヨブは言った、『わたしは正しい、神はわたしの公義を奪われた。
34-6 Notwithstanding my right I am accounted a liar;My wound is incurable, though I am without transgression. わたしは正しいにもかかわらず、偽る者とされた。わたしにはとががないけれども、わたしの矢傷はいえない』と。
34-7 What man is like Job,Who drinketh up scoffing like water, だれかヨブのような人があろう。彼はあざけりを水のように飲み、
34-8 Who goeth in company with the workers of iniquity,And walketh with wicked men? 悪をなす者どもと交わり、悪人と共に歩む。
34-9 For he hath said, It profiteth a man nothingThat he should delight himself with God. 彼は言った、『人は神と親しんでも、なんの益もない』と。
34-10 Therefore hearken unto me, ye men of understanding:Far be it from God, that he should do wickedness,And from the Almighty, that he should commit iniquity. それであなたがた理解ある人々よ、わたしに聞け、神は断じて悪を行うことなく、全能者は断じて不義を行うことはない。
34-11 For the work of a man will he render unto him,And cause every man to find according to his ways. 神は人のわざにしたがってその身に報い、おのおのの道にしたがって、その身に振りかからせられる。
34-12 Yea, of a surety, God will not do wickedly,Neither will the Almighty pervert justice. まことに神は悪しき事を行われない。全能者はさばきをまげられない。
34-13 Who gave him a charge over the earth?Or who hath disposed the whole world? だれかこの地を彼にゆだねた者があるか。だれか全世界を彼に負わせた者があるか。
34-14 If he set his heart upon himself,If he gather unto himself his spirit and his breath; 神がもしその霊をご自分に取りもどし、だれか全世界を彼に負わせた者があるか。
34-15 All flesh shall perish together,And man shall turn again unto dust. すべての肉は共に滅び、人はちりに帰るであろう。
34-16 If now thou hast understanding, hear this:Hearken to the voice of my words. もし、あなたに悟りがあるならば、これを聞け、わたしの言うところに耳を傾けよ。
34-17 Shall even one that hateth justice govern?And wilt thou condemn him that is righteous and mighty?- 公義を憎む者は世を治めることができようか。正しく力ある者を、あなたは非難するであろうか。
34-18 Him that saith to a king, Thou art vile,Or to nobles, Ye are wicked; 王たる者に向かって『よこしまな者』と言い、つかさたる者に向かって、『悪しき者』と言うことができるであろうか。
34-19 That respecteth not the persons of princes,Nor regardeth the rich more than the poor;For they all are the work of his hands. 神は君たる者をもかたより見られることなく、富める者を貧しき者にまさって顧みられることはない。彼らは皆み手のわざだからである。
34-20 In a moment they die, even at midnight;The people are shaken and pass away,And the mighty are taken away without hand. 彼らはまたたく間に死に、民は夜の間に振われて、消えうせ、力ある者も人手によらずに除かれる。
34-21 For his eyes are upon the ways of a man,And he seeth all his goings. 神の目が人の道の上にあって、そのすべての歩みを見られるからだ。
34-22 There is no darkness, nor thick gloom,Where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves. 悪を行う者には身を隠すべき暗やみもなく、暗黒もない。
34-23 For he needeth not further to consider a man,That he should go before God in judgment. 人がさばきのために神の前に出るとき、神は人のために時を定めておかれない。
34-24 He breaketh in pieces mighty men in ways past finding out,And setteth others in their stead. 彼は力ある者をも調べることなく打ち滅ぼし、他の人々を立てて、これに替えられる。
34-25 Therefore he taketh knowledge of their works;And he overturneth them in the night, so that they are destroyed. このように、神は彼らのわざを知り、夜の間に彼らをくつがえされるので、彼らはやがて滅びる。
34-26 He striketh them as wicked menIn the open sight of others; 彼は人々の見る所で、彼らをその悪のために撃たれる。
34-27 Because they turned aside from following him,And would not have regard in any of his ways: これは彼らがそむいて彼に従わず、その道を全く顧みないからだ。
34-28 So that they caused the cry of the poor to come unto him,And he heard the cry of the afflicted. こうして彼らは貧しき者の叫びを彼のもとにいたらせ、悩める者の叫びを彼に聞かせる。
34-29 When he giveth quietness, who then can condemn?And when he hideth his face, who then can behold him? 彼が黙っておられるとき、だれが非難することができようか。彼が顔を隠されるとき、だれが彼を見ることができようか。一国の上にも、一人の上にも同様だ。
34-30 That the godless man reign not,That there be none to ensnare the people. これは神を信じない者が世を治めることがなく、民をわなにかける事のないようにするためである。
34-31 For hath any said unto God,I have borne chastisement, I will not offend any more : だれが神に向かって言ったか、『わたしは罪を犯さないのに、懲しめられた。
34-32 That which I see not teach thou me:If I have done iniquity, I will do it no more? わたしの見ないものをわたしに教えられたい。もしわたしが悪い事をしたなら、重ねてこれをしない』と。
34-33 Shall his recompense be as thou wilt, that thou refusest it?For thou must choose, and not I:Therefore speak what thou knowest. あなたが拒むゆえに、彼はあなたの好むように報いをされるであろうか。あなたみずから選ぶがよい、わたしはしない。あなたの知るところを言いなさい。
34-34 Men of understanding will say unto me,Yea, every wise man that heareth me: 悟りある人々はわたしに言うだろう、わたしに聞くところの知恵ある人は言うだろう、
34-35 Job speaketh without knowledge,And his words are without wisdom. 『ヨブの言うところは知識がなく、その言葉は悟りがない』と。
34-36 Would that Job were tried unto the end,Because of his answering like wicked men. どうかヨブが終りまで試みられるように、彼は悪人のように答えるからである。
34-37 For he addeth rebellion unto his sin;He clappeth his hands among us,And multiplieth his words against God. 彼は自分の罪に、とがを加え、われわれの中にあって手をうち、神に逆らって、その言葉をしげくする」。
