Hear this, ye old men, and give ear, all ye inhabitants of the land. Hath this been in your days, or in the days of your fathers? |
老人たちよ、これを聞け。すべてこの地に住む者よ、耳を傾けよ。あなたがたの世、またはあなたがたの先祖の世にこのような事があったか。 |

Tell ye your children of it, and let your children tell their children, and their children another generation. |
これをあなたがたの子たちに語り、子たちはまたその子たちに語り、その子たちはまたこれを後の代に語り伝えよ。 |

That which the palmer-worm hath left hath the locust eaten; and that which the locust hath left hath the canker-worm eaten; and that which the canker-worm hath left hath the caterpillar eaten. |
かみ食らういなごの残したものは、群がるいなごがこれを食い、群がるいなごの残したものは、とびいなごがこれを食い、とびいなごの残したものは、滅ぼすいなごがこれを食った。 |

Awake, ye drunkards, and weep; and wail, all ye drinkers of wine, because of the sweet wine; for it is cut off from your mouth. |
酔える者よ、目をさまして泣け。すべて酒を飲む者よ、うまい酒のゆえに泣き叫べ。うまい酒はあなたがたの口から断たれるからだ。 |

For a nation is come up upon my land, strong, and without number; his teeth are the teeth of a lion, and he hath the jaw-teeth of a lioness. |
一つの国民がわたしの国に攻めのぼってきた。その勢いは強く、その数は計られず、その歯はししの歯のようで、雌じしのきばをもっている。 |

He hath laid my vine waste, and barked my fig-tree: he hath made it clean bare, and cast it away; the branches thereof are made white. |
彼らはわがぶどうの木を荒し、わがいちじくの木を折り、その皮をはだかにして捨てた。その枝は白くなった。 |

Lament like a virgin girded with sackcloth for the husband of her youth. |
あなたがたは若い時の夫のために荒布を腰にまとったおとめのように泣き悲しめ。 |

The meal-offering and the drink-offering are cut off from the house of Jehovah; the priests, Jehovah’s ministers, mourn. |
素祭と灌祭とは主の家に絶え、主に仕える祭司たちは嘆き悲しむ。 |

The field is laid waste, the land mourneth; for the grain is destroyed, the new wine is dried up, the oil languisheth. |
畑は荒れ、地は悲しむ。これは穀物が荒れはて、新しい酒は尽き、油も絶えるためである。 |

Be confounded, O ye husbandmen, wail, O ye vinedressers, for the wheat and for the barley; for the harvest of the field is perished. |
小麦および大麦のために、農夫たちよ、恥じよ、ぶどう作りたちよ、泣け。畑の収穫がうせ去ったからである。 |

The vine is withered, and the fig-tree languisheth; the pomegranate-tree, the palm-tree also, and the apple-tree, even all the trees of the field are withered: for joy is withered away from the sons of men. |
ぶどうの木は枯れ、いちじくの木はしおれ、ざくろ、やし、りんご、野のすべての木はしぼんだ。それゆえ楽しみは人の子らからかれうせた。 |

Gird yourselves with sackcloth, and lament, ye priests; wail, ye ministers of the altar; come, lie all night in sackcloth, ye ministers of my God: for the meal-offering and the drink-offering are withholden from the house of your God. |
祭司たちよ、荒布を腰にまとい、泣き悲しめ。祭壇に仕える者たちよ、泣け。神に仕える者たちよ、来て、荒布をまとい、夜を過ごせ。素祭も灌祭もあなたがたの神の家から退けられたからである。 |

Sanctify a fast, call a solemn assembly, gather the old men and all the inhabitants of the land unto the house of Jehovah your God, and cry unto Jehovah. |

Alas for the day! for the day of Jehovah is at hand, and as destruction from the Almighty shall it come. |
ああ、その日はわざわいだ。全能者からの滅びのように来るからである。 |

Is not the food cut off before our eyes, yea, joy and gladness from the house of our God? |
われわれの目の前に食物は絶え、われわれの神の家から喜びと楽しみが絶えたではないか。 |

The seeds rot under their clods; the garners are laid desolate, the barns are broken down; for the grain is withered. |
種は土の下に朽ち、倉は荒れ、穀物がつきたので、穀倉はこわされる。 |

How do the beasts groan! the herds of cattle are perplexed, because they have no pasture; yea, the flocks of sheep are made desolate. |
いかに家畜はうめき鳴くか。牛の群れはさまよう。彼らには牧草がないからだ。羊の群れも滅びうせる。 |

O Jehovah, to thee do I cry; for the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness, and the flame hath burned all the trees of the field. |
主よ、わたしはあなたに向かって呼ばわる。火が荒野の牧草を焼き滅ぼし、炎が野のすべての木を焼き尽したからである。 |

Yea, the beasts of the field pant unto thee; for the water brooks are dried up, and the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness. |
野の獣もまたあなたに向かって呼ばわる。水の流れがかれはて、火が荒野の牧草を焼き滅ぼしたからである |
