| 14-1 |
And Samson went down to Timnah, and saw a woman in Timnah of the daughters of the Philistines. |
サムソンはテムナに下って行き、ペリシテびとの娘で、テムナに住むひとりの女を見た。 |

And he came up, and told his father and his mother, and said, I have seen a woman in Timnah of the daughters of the Philistines: now therefore get her for me to wife. |
彼は帰ってきて父母に言った、「わたしはペリシテびとの娘で、テムナに住むひとりの女を見ました。彼女をめとってわたしの妻にしてください」。 |

Then his father and his mother said unto him, Is there never a woman among the daughters of thy brethren, or among all my people, that thou goest to take a wife of the uncircumcised Philistines? And Samson said unto his father, Get her for me; for she pleaseth me well. |
父母は言った、「あなたが行って、割礼をうけないペリシテびとのうちから妻を迎えようとするのは、身内の娘たちのうちに、あるいはわたしたちのすべての民のうちに女がないためなのですか」。しかしサムソンは父に言った、「彼女をわたしにめとってください。彼女はわたしの心にかないますから」。 |
| 14-4 |
But his father and his mother knew not that it was of Jehovah; for he sought an occasion against the Philistines. Now at that time the Philistines had rule over Israel. |
父母はこの事が主から出たものであることを知らなかった。サムソンはペリシテびとを攻めようと、おりをうかがっていたからである。そのころペリシテびとはイスラエルを治めていた。 |

Then went Samson down, and his father and his mother, to Timnah, and came to the vineyards of Timnah: and, behold, a young lion roared against him. |
かくてサムソンは父母と共にテムナに下って行った。彼がテムナのぶどう畑に着くと、一頭の若いししがほえたけって彼に向かってきた。 |
| 14-6 |
And the Spirit of Jehovah came mightily upon him, and he rent him as he would have rent a kid; and he had nothing in his hand: but he told not his father or his mother what he had done. |
時に主の霊が激しく彼に臨んだので、彼はあたかも子やぎを裂くようにそのししを裂いたが、手にはなんの武器も持っていなかった。しかしサムソンはそのしたことを父にも母にも告げなかった。 |

And he went down, and talked with the woman, and she pleased Samson well. |
サムソンは下って行って女と話し合ったが、女はサムソンの心にかなった。 |
| 14-8 |
And after a while he returned to take her; and he turned aside to see the carcass of the lion: and, behold, there was a swarm of bees in the body of the lion, and honey. |
日がたって後、サムソンは彼女をめとろうとして帰ったが、道を転じて、かのししのしかばねを見ると、ししのからだに、はちの群れと、蜜があった。 |

And he took it into his hands, and went on, eating as he went; and he came to his father and mother, and gave unto them, and they did eat: but he told them not that he had taken the honey out of the body of the lion. |
彼はそれをかきあつめ、手にとって歩きながら食べ、父母のもとに帰って、彼らに与えたので、彼らもそれを食べた。しかし、ししのからだからその蜜をかきあつめたことは彼らに告げなかった。 |

And his father went down unto the woman: and Samson made there a feast; for so used the young men to do. |
そこで父が下って、女のもとに行ったので、サムソンはそこにふるまいを設けた。そうすることは花婿のならわしであったからである。 |
| 14-11 |
And it came to pass, when they saw him, that they brought thirty companions to be with him. |
人々はサムソンを見ると、三十人の客を連れてきて、同席させた。 |
| 14-12 |
And Samson said unto them, Let me now put forth a riddle unto you: if ye can declare it unto me within the seven days of the feast, and find it out, then I will give you thirty linen garments and thirty changes of raiment; |
サムソンは彼らに言った、「わたしはあなたがたに一つのなぞを出しましょう。あなたがたがもし七日のふるまいのうちにそれを解いて、わたしに告げることができたなら、わたしはあなたがたに亜麻の着物三十と、晴れ着三十をさしあげましょう。 |

but if ye cannot declare it unto me, then shall ye give me thirty linen garments and thirty changes of raiment. And they said unto him, Put forth thy riddle, that we may hear it. |
しかしあなたがたが、それをわたしに告げることができなければ、亜麻の着物三十と晴れ着三十をわたしにくれなければなりません」。彼らはサムソンに言った、「なぞを出しなさい。わたしたちはそれを聞きましょう」。 |
| 14-14 |
And he said unto them,Out of the eater came forth food,And out of the strong came forth sweetness.And they could not in three days declare the riddle. |
サムソンは彼らに言った、「食らう者から食い物が出、強い者から甘い物が出た」。彼らは三日のあいだなぞを解くことができなかった。 |
| 14-15 |
And it came to pass on the seventh day, that they said unto Samson’s wife, Entice thy husband, that he may declare unto us the riddle, lest we burn thee and thy father’s house with fire: have ye called us to impoverish us? is it not so? |
四日目になって、彼らはサムソンの妻に言った、「あなたの夫を説きすすめて、なぞをわたしたちに明かすようにしてください。そうしなければ、わたしたちは火をつけてあなたとあなたの父の家を焼いてしまいます。あなたはわたしたちの物を取るために、わたしたちを招いたのですか」。 |

And Samson’s wife wept before him, and said, Thou dost but hate me, and lovest me not: thou hast put forth a riddle unto the children of my people, and hast not told it me. And he said unto her, Behold, I have not told it my father nor my mother, and shall I tell thee? |
そこでサムソンの妻はサムソンの前に泣いて言った、「あなたはただわたしを憎むだけで、愛してくれません。あなたはわたしの国の人々になぞを出して、それをわたしに解き明かしませんでした」。サムソンは彼女に言った、「わたしは自分の父にも母にも解き明かさなかった。どうしてあなたに解き明かせよう」。 |

And she wept before him the seven days, while their feast lasted: and it came to pass on the seventh day, that he told her, because she pressed him sore; and she told the riddle to the children of her people. |
彼女は七日のふるまいの間、彼の前に泣いていたが、七日目になって、サムソンはついに彼女に解き明かした。ひどく彼に迫ったからである。そこで彼女はなぞを自分の国の人々にあかした。 |
| 14-18 |
And the men of the city said unto him on the seventh day before the sun went down, What is sweeter than honey? and what is stronger than a lion? And he said unto them,If ye had not plowed with my heifer,Ye had not found out my riddle. |
七日目になって、日の没する前に町の人々はサムソンに言った、「蜜より甘いものに何があろう。ししより強いものに何があろう」。サムソンは彼らに言った、「わたしの若い雌牛で耕さなかったなら、わたしのなぞは解けなかった」。 |

And the Spirit of Jehovah came mightily upon him, and he went down to Ashkelon, and smote thirty men of them, and took their spoil, and gave the changes of raiment unto them that declared the riddle. And his anger was kindled, and he went up to his father’s house. |
この時、主の霊が激しくサムソンに臨んだので、サムソンはアシケロンに下って行って、その町の者三十人を殺し、彼らからはぎ取って、かのなぞを解いた人々に、その晴れ着を与え、激しく怒って父の家に帰った。 |

But Samson’s wife was given to his companion, whom he had used as his friend. |
サムソンの妻は花婿付添人であった客の妻となった。 |
