And Samson went to Gaza, and saw there a harlot, and went in unto her. |
サムソンはガザへ行って、そこでひとりの遊女を見、その女のところにはいった。 |

And it was told the Gazites, saying, Samson is come hither. And they compassed him in, and laid wait for him all night in the gate of the city, and were quiet all the night, saying, Let be till morning light, then we will kill him. |
「サムソンがここにきた」と、ガザの人々に告げるものがあったので、ガザの人々はその所を取り囲み、夜通し町の門で待ち伏せし、「われわれは朝まで待って彼を殺そう」と言って、夜通し静かにしていた。 |

And Samson lay till midnight, and arose at midnight, and laid hold of the doors of the gate of the city, and the two posts, and plucked them up, bar and all, and put them upon his shoulders, and carried them up to the top of the mountain that is before Hebron. |
サムソンは夜中まで寝たが、夜中に起きて、町の門のとびらと二つの門柱に手をかけて、貫の木もろともに引き抜き、肩に載せて、ヘブロンの向かいにある山の頂に運んで行った。 |

And it came to pass afterward, that he loved a woman in the valley of Sorek, whose name was Delilah. |

And the lords of the Philistines came up unto her, and said unto her, Entice him, and see wherein his great strength lieth, and by what means we may prevail against him, that we may bind him to afflict him: and we will give thee every one of us eleven hundred pieces of silver. |
ペリシテびとの君たちはその女のところにきて言った、「あなたはサムソンを説きすすめて、彼の大力はどこにあるのか、またわれわれはどうすれば彼に勝って、彼を縛り苦しめることができるかを見つけなさい。そうすればわれわれはおのおの銀千百枚ずつをあなたにさしあげましょう」。 |

And Delilah said to Samson, Tell me, I pray thee, wherein thy great strength lieth, and wherewith thou mightest be bound to afflict thee. |
そこでデリラはサムソンに言った、「あなたの大力はどこにあるのか、またどうすればあなたを縛って苦しめることができるか、どうぞわたしに聞かせてください」。 |
| 16-7 |
And Samson said unto her, If they bind me with seven green withes that were never dried, then shall I become weak, and be as another man. |
サムソンは女に言った、「人々がもし、かわいたことのない七本の新しい弓弦をもってわたしを縛るなら、わたしは弱くなってほかの人のようになるでしょう」。 |

Then the lords of the Philistines brought up to her seven green withes which had not been dried, and she bound him with them. |
そこでペリシテびとの君たちが、かわいたことのない七本の新しい弓弦を女に持ってきたので、女はそれをもってサムソンを縛った。 |
| 16-9 |
Now she had liers-in-wait abiding in the inner chamber. And she said unto him, The Philistines are upon thee, Samson. And he brake the withes, as a string of tow is broken when it toucheth the fire. So his strength was not known. |
女はかねて奥のへやに人を忍ばせておいて、サムソンに言った、「サムソンよ、ペリシテびとがあなたに迫っています」。しかしサムソンはその弓弦を、あたかも亜麻糸が火にあって断たれるように断ち切った。こうして彼の力の秘密は知れなかった。 |
| 16-10 |
And Delilah said unto Samson, Behold, thou hast mocked me, and told me lies: now tell me, I pray thee, wherewith thou mightest be bound. |
デリラはサムソンに言った、「あなたはわたしを欺いて、うそを言いました。どうしたらあなたを縛ることができるか、どうぞ今わたしに聞かせてください」。 |
| 16-11 |
And he said unto her, If they only bind me with new ropes wherewith no work hath been done, then shall I become weak, and be as another man. |
サムソンは女に言った、「もし人々がまだ用いたことのない新しい綱をもって、わたしを縛るなら、弱くなってほかの人のようになるでしょう」。 |
| 16-12 |
So Delilah took new ropes, and bound him therewith, and said unto him, The Philistines are upon thee, Samson. And the liers-in-wait were abiding in the inner chamber. And he brake them off his arms like a thread. |
そこでデリラは新しい綱をとり、それをもって彼を縛り、そして彼に言った、「サムソンよ、ペリシテびとがあなたに迫っています」。時に人々は奥のへやに忍んでいたが、サムソンはその綱を糸のように腕から断ち落した。 |

And Delilah said unto Samson, Hitherto thou hast mocked me, and told me lies: tell me wherewith thou mightest be bound. And he said unto her, If thou weavest the seven locks of my head with the web. |
そこでデリラはサムソンに言った、「あなたは今まで、わたしを欺いて、うそを言いましたが、どうしたらあなたを縛ることができるか、わたしに聞かせてください」。彼は女に言った、「あなたがもし、わたしの髪の毛七ふさを機の縦糸と一緒に織って、くぎでそれを留めておくならば、わたしは弱くなってほかの人のようになるでしょう」。そこで彼が眠ったとき、デリラはサムソンの髪の毛、七ふさをとって、それを機の縦糸に織り込み、 |

And she fastened it with the pin, and said unto him, The Philistines are upon thee, Samson. And he awaked out of his sleep, and plucked away the pin of the beam, and the web. |
くぎでそれを留めておいて、彼に言った、「サムソンよ、ペリシテびとがあなたに迫っています」。しかしサムソンは目をさまして、くぎと機と縦糸とを引き抜いた。 |

And she said unto him, How canst thou say, I love thee, when thy heart is not with me? thou hast mocked me these three times, and hast not told me wherein thy great strength lieth. |
そこで女はサムソンに言った、「あなたの心がわたしを離れているのに、どうして『おまえを愛する』と言うことができますか。あなたはすでに三度もわたしを欺き、あなたの大力がどこにあるかをわたしに告げませんでした」。 |
| 16-16 |
And it came to pass, when she pressed him daily with her words, and urged him, that his soul was vexed unto death. |
女は毎日その言葉をもって彼に迫り促したので、彼の魂は死ぬばかりに苦しんだ。 |
| 16-17 |
And he told her all his heart, and said unto her, There hath not come a razor upon my head; for I have been a Nazirite unto God from my mother’s womb: if I be shaven, then my strength will go from me, and I shall become weak, and be like any other man. |
彼はついにその心をことごとく打ち明けて女に言った、「わたしの頭にはかみそりを当てたことがありません。わたしは生れた時から神にささげられたナジルびとだからです。もし髪をそり落されたなら、わたしの力は去って弱くなり、ほかの人のようになるでしょう」。 |

And when Delilah saw that he had told her all his heart, she sent and called for the lords of the Philistines, saying, Come up this once, for he hath told me all his heart. Then the lords of the Philistines came up unto her, and brought the money in their hand. |
デリラはサムソンがその心をことごとく打ち明けたのを見、人をつかわしてペリシテびとの君たちを呼んで言った、「サムソンはその心をことごとくわたしに打ち明けましたから、今度こそ上っておいでなさい」。そこでペリシテびとの君たちは、銀を携えて女のもとに上ってきた。 |
| 16-19 |
And she made him sleep upon her knees; and she called for a man, and shaved off the seven locks of his head; and she began to afflict him, and his strength went from him. |
女は自分のひざの上にサムソンを眠らせ、人を呼んで髪の毛、七ふさをそり落させ、彼を苦しめ始めたが、その力は彼を去っていた。 |
| 16-20 |
And she said, The Philistines are upon thee, Samson. And he awoke out of his sleep, and said, I will go out as at other times, and shake myself free. But he knew not that Jehovah was departed from him. |
そして女が「サムソンよ、ペリシテびとがあなたに迫っています」と言ったので、彼は目をさまして言った、「わたしはいつものように出て行って、からだをゆすろう」。彼は主が自分を去られたことを知らなかった。 |

And the Philistines laid hold on him, and put out his eyes; and they brought him down to Gaza, and bound him with fetters of brass; and he did grind in the prison-house. |
そこでペリシテびとは彼を捕えて、両眼をえぐり、ガザに引いて行って、青銅の足かせをかけて彼をつないだ。こうしてサムソンは獄屋の中で、うすをひいていたが、 |

Howbeit the hair of his head began to grow again after he was shaven. |
その髪の毛はそり落された後、ふたたび伸び始めた。 |
| 16-23 |
And the lords of the Philistines gathered them together to offer a great sacrifice unto Dagon their god, and to rejoice; for they said, Our god hath delivered Samson our enemy into our hand. |
さてペリシテびとの君たちは、彼らの神ダゴンに大いなる犠牲をささげて祝をしようと、共に集まって言った、「われわれの神は、敵サムソンをわれわれの手にわたされた」。 |
| 16-24 |
And when the people saw him, they praised their god; for they said, Our god hath delivered into our hand our enemy, and the destroyer of our country, who hath slain many of us. |
民はサムソンを見て、自分たちの神をほめたたえて言った、「われわれの神は、われわれの国を荒し、われわれを多く殺した敵をわれわれの手にわたされた」。 |
| 16-25 |
And it came to pass, when their hearts were merry, that they said, Call for Samson, that he may make us sport. And they called for Samson out of the prison-house; and he made sport before them. And they set him between the pillars: |
彼らはまた心に喜んで言った、「サムソンを呼んで、われわれのために戯れ事をさせよう」。彼らは獄屋からサムソンを呼び出して、彼らの前に戯れ事をさせた。彼らがサムソンを柱のあいだに立たせると、 |

and Samson said unto the lad that held him by the hand, Suffer me that I may feel the pillars whereupon the house resteth, that I may lean upon them. |

| 16-27 |
Now the house was full of men and women; and all the lords of the Philistines were there; and there were upon the roof about three thousand men and women, that beheld while Samson made sport. |
その家には男女が満ち、ペリシテびとの君たちも皆そこにいた。また屋根の上には三千人ばかりの男女がいて、サムソンの戯れ事をするのを見ていた。 |
| 16-28 |
And Samson called unto Jehovah, and said, O Lord Jehovah, remember me, I pray thee, and strengthen me, I pray thee, only this once, O God, that I may be at once avenged of the Philistines for my two eyes. |
サムソンは主に呼ばわって言った、「ああ、主なる神よ、どうぞ、わたしを覚えてください。ああ、神よ、どうぞもう一度、わたしを強くして、わたしの二つの目の一つのためにでもペリシテびとにあだを報いさせてください」。 |
| 16-29 |
And Samson took hold of the two middle pillars upon which the house rested, and leaned upon them, the one with his right hand, and the other with his left. |
そしてサムソンは、その家をささえている二つの中柱の一つを右の手に、一つを左の手にかかえて、身をそれに寄せ、 |
| 16-30 |
And Samson said, Let me die with the Philistines. And he bowed himself with all his might; and the house fell upon the lords, and upon all the people that were therein. So the dead that he slew at his death were more than they that he slew in his life. |
「わたしはペリシテびとと共に死のう」と言って、力をこめて身をかがめると、家はその中にいた君たちと、すべての民の上に倒れた。こうしてサムソンが死ぬときに殺したものは、生きているときに殺したものよりも多かった。 |
| 16-31 |
Then his brethren and all the house of his father came down, and took him, and brought him up, and buried him between Zorah and Eshtaol in the burying-place of Manoah his father. And he judged Israel twenty years. |
やがて彼の身内の人たちおよび父の家族の者がみな下ってきて、彼を引き取り、携え上って、ゾラとエシタオルの間にある父マノアの墓に葬った。サムソンがイスラエルをさばいたのは二十年であった。 |
