And they continued three years without war between Syria and Israel. |

And it came to pass in the third year, that Jehoshaphat the king of Judah came down to the king of Israel. |
しかし三年目にユダの王ヨシャパテがイスラエルの王の所へ下っていったので、 |
| 22-3 |
And the king of Israel said unto his servants, Know ye that Ramoth-gilead is ours, and we are still, and take it not out of the hand of the king of Syria? |
イスラエルの王はその家来たちに言った、「あなたがたは、ラモテ・ギレアデがわれわれの所有であることを知っていますか。しかもなおわれわれはスリヤの王の手からそれを取らずに黙っているのです」。 |
| 22-4 |
And he said unto Jehoshaphat, Wilt thou go with me to battle to Ramoth-gilead? And Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, I am as thou art, my people as thy people, my horses as thy horses. |
彼はヨシャパテに言った、「ラモテ・ギレアデで戦うためにわたしと一緒に行かれませんか」。ヨシャパテはイスラエルの王に言った、「わたしはあなたと一つです。わたしの民はあなたの民と一つです。わたしの馬はあなたの馬と一つです」。 |

And Jehoshaphat said unto the king of Israel, Inquire first, I pray thee, for the word of Jehovah. |
ヨシャパテはまたイスラエルの王に言った、「まず、主の言葉を伺いなさい」。 |
| 22-6 |
Then the king of Israel gathered the prophets together, about four hundred
men, and said unto them, Shall I go against Ramoth-gilead to battle, or
shall I forbear? And they said, Go up; for the Lord will deliver it into
the hand of the king. |
そこでイスラエルの王は預言者四百人ばかりを集めて、彼らに言った、「わたしはラモテ・ギレアデに戦いに行くべきでしょうか、あるいは控えるべきでしょうか」。彼らは言った、「上っていきなさい。主はそれを王の手にわたされるでしょう」。 |

But Jehoshaphat said, Is there not here a prophet of Jehovah besides, that we may inquire of him? |
ヨシャパテは言った、「ここには、われわれの問うべき主の預言者がほかにいませんか」。 |
| 22-8 |
And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, there is yet one man by whom we may inquire of Jehovah, Micaiah the son of Imlah: but I hate him; for he doth not prophesy good concerning me, but evil. And Jehoshaphat said, Let not the king say so. |
イスラエルの王はヨシャパテに言った、「われわれが主に問うことのできる人が、まだひとりいます。イムラの子ミカヤです。彼はわたしについて良い事を預言せず、ただ悪い事だけを預言するので、わたしは彼を憎んでいます」。ヨシャパテは言った、「王よ、そう言わないでください」。 |

Then the king of Israel called an officer, and said, Fetch quickly Micaiah the son of Imlah. |
そこでイスラエルの王は役人を呼んで、「急いでイムラの子ミカヤを連れてきなさい」と言った。 |
| 22-10 |
Now the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah were sitting each on his throne, arrayed in their robes, in an open place at the entrance of the gate of Samaria; and all the prophets were prophesying before them. |
さてイスラエルの王およびユダの王ヨシャパテは王の服を着て、サマリヤの門の入口の広場に、おのおのその王座にすわり、預言者たちは皆その前で預言していた。 |
| 22-11 |
And Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah made him horns of iron, and said, Thus
saith Jehovah, With these shalt thou push the Syrians, until they be consumed. |
ケナアナの子ゼデキヤは鉄の角を造って言った、「主はこう仰せられます、『あなたはこれらの角をもってスリヤびとを突いて彼らを滅ぼしなさい』」。 |
| 22-12 |
And all the prophets prophesied so, saying, Go up to Ramoth-gilead, and prosper; for Jehovah will deliver it into the hand of the king. |
預言者たちは皆そのように預言して言った、「ラモテ・ギレアデに上っていって勝利を得なさい。主はそれを王の手にわたされるでしょう」。 |
| 22-13 |
And the messenger that went to call Micaiah spake unto him, saying, Behold now, the words of the prophets declare good unto the king with one mouth: let thy word, I pray thee, be like the word of one of them, and speak thou good. |
さてミカヤを呼びにいった使者は彼に言った、「預言者たちは一致して王に良い事を言いました。どうぞ、あなたも、彼らのひとりの言葉のようにして、良い事を言ってください」。 |
| 22-14 |
And Micaiah said, As Jehovah liveth, what Jehovah saith unto me, that will I speak. |
ミカヤは言った、「主は生きておられます。主がわたしに言われる事を申しましょう」。 |
| 22-15 |
And when he was come to the king, the king said unto him, Micaiah, shall we go to Ramoth-gilead to battle, or shall we forbear? And he answered him, Go up and prosper; and Jehovah will deliver it into the hand of the king. |
彼が王の所へ行くと、王は彼に言った、「ミカヤよ、われわれはラモテ・ギレアデに戦いに行くべきでしょうか、あるいは控えるべきでしょうか」。彼は王に言った、「上っていって勝利を得なさい。主はそれを王の手にわたされるでしょう」。 |

And the king said unto him, How many times shall I adjure thee that thou speak unto me nothing but the truth in the name of Jehovah? |
しかし王は彼に言った、「幾たびあなたを誓わせたら、あなたは主の名をもって、ただ真実のみをわたしに告げるでしょうか」。 |
| 22-17 |
And he said, I saw all Israel scattered upon the mountains, as sheep that have no shepherd: and Jehovah said, These have no master; let them return every man to his house in peace. |
彼は言った、「わたしはイスラエルが皆、牧者のない羊のように、山に散っているのを見ました。すると主は『これらの者は飼主がいない。彼らをそれぞれ安らかに、その家に帰らせよ』と言われました」。 |
| 22-18 |
And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, Did I not tell thee that he would not prophesy good concerning me, but evil? |
イスラエルの王はヨシャパテに言った、「彼がわたしについて良い事を預言せず、ただ悪い事だけを預言すると、あなたに告げたではありませんか」。 |
| 22-19 |
And Micaiah said, Therefore hear thou the word of Jehovah: I saw Jehovah sitting on his throne, and all the host of heaven standing by him on his right hand and on his left. |
ミカヤは言った、「それゆえ主の言葉を聞きなさい。わたしは主がその玉座にすわり、天の万軍がそのかたわらに、右左に立っているのを見たが、 |
| 22-20 |
And Jehovah said, Who shall entice Ahab, that he may go up and fall at Ramoth-gilead? And one said on this manner; and another said on that manner. |
主は『だれがアハブをいざなってラモテ・ギレアデに上らせ、彼を倒れさせるであろうか』と言われました。するとひとりはこの事を言い、ひとりはほかの事を言いました。 |
| 22-21 |
And there came forth a spirit, and stood before Jehovah, and said, I will entice him. |
その時一つの霊が進み出て、主の前に立ち、『わたしが彼をいざないましょう』と言いました。 |
| 22-22 |
And Jehovah said unto him, Wherewith? And he said, I will go forth, and will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And he said, Thou shalt entice him, and shalt prevail also: go forth, and do so. |
主は『どのような方法でするのか』と言われたので、彼は『わたしが出て行って、偽りを言う霊となって、すべての預言者の口に宿りましょう』と言いました。そこで主は『おまえは彼をいざなって、それを成し遂げるであろう。出て行って、そうしなさい』と言われました。 |
| 22-23 |
Now therefore, behold, Jehovah hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these thy prophets; and Jehovah hath spoken evil concerning thee. |
それで主は偽りを言う霊をあなたのすべての預言者の口に入れ、また主はあなたの身に起る災を告げられたのです」。 |
| 22-24 |
Then Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah came near, and smote Micaiah on the cheek, and said, Which way went the Spirit of Jehovah from me to speak unto thee? |
するとケナアナの子ゼデキヤは近寄って、ミカヤのほおを打って言った、「どのようにして主の霊がわたしを離れて、あなたに語りましたか」。 |
| 22-25 |
And Micaiah said, Behold, thou shalt see on that day, when thou shalt go into an inner chamber to hide thyself. |
ミカヤは言った、「あなたが奥の間にはいって身を隠すその日に、わかるでしょう」。 |
| 22-26 |
And the king of Israel said, Take Micaiah, and carry him back unto Amon the governor of the city, and to Joash the king’s son; |
イスラエルの王は言った、「ミカヤを捕え、町のつかさアモンと、王の子ヨアシの所へ引いて帰って、 |
| 22-27 |
and say, Thus saith the king, Put this fellow in the prison, and feed him with bread of affliction and with water of affliction, until I come in peace. |
言いなさい、『王がこう言います、この者を獄屋に入れ、わずかのパンと水をもって彼を養い、わたしが勝利を得て帰ってくるのを待て』」。 |
| 22-28 |
And Micaiah said, If thou return at all in peace, Jehovah hath not spoken by me. And he said, Hear, ye peoples, all of you. |
ミカヤは言った、「もしあなたが勝利を得て帰ってこられるならば、主がわたしによって語られなかったのです」。また彼は言った、「あなたがた、すべての民よ、聞きなさい」。 |
| 22-29 |
So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah went up to Ramoth-gilead. |
こうしてイスラエルの王とユダの王ヨシャパテはラモテ・ギレアデに上っていった。 |
| 22-30 |
And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, I will disguise myself, and go into the battle; but put thou on thy robes. And the king of Israel disguised himself, and went into the battle. |
イスラエルの王はヨシャパテに言った、「わたしは姿を変えて、戦いに行きます。あなたは王の服を着けなさい」。イスラエルの王は姿を変えて戦いに行った。 |
| 22-31 |
Now the king of Syria had commanded the thirty and two captains of his chariots, saying, Fight neither with small nor great, save only with the king of Israel. |
さて、スリヤの王は、その戦車長三十二人に命じて言った、「あなたがたは、小さい者とも大きい者とも戦わないで、ただイスラエルの王とだけ戦いなさい」。 |
| 22-32 |
And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, that they said, Surely it is the king of Israel; and they turned aside to fight against him: and Jehoshaphat cried out. |
戦車長らはヨシャパテを見たとき、これはきっとイスラエルの王だと思ったので、身をめぐらして、これと戦おうとすると、ヨシャパテは呼ばわった。 |

And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots saw that it was not the king of Israel, that they turned back from pursuing him. |
戦車長らは彼がイスラエルの王でないのを見たので、彼を追うことをやめて引き返した。 |
| 22-34 |
And a certain man drew his bow at a venture, and smote the king of Israel between the joints of the armor: wherefore he said unto the driver of his chariot, Turn thy hand, and carry me out of the host; for I am sore wounded. |
しかし、ひとりの人が何心なく弓をひいて、イスラエルの王の胸当と草摺の間を射たので、彼はその戦車の御者に言った、「わたしは傷を受けた。戦車をめぐらして、わたしを戦場から運び出せ」。 |
| 22-35 |
And the battle increased that day: and the king was stayed up in his chariot against the Syrians, and died at even; and the blood ran out of the wound into the bottom of the chariot. |
その日戦いは激しくなった。王は戦車の中にささえられて立ち、スリヤびとにむかっていたが、ついに、夕暮になって死んだ。傷の血は戦車の底に流れた。 |
| 22-36 |
And there went a cry throughout the host about the going down of the sun, saying, Every man to his city, and every man to his country. |
日の没するころ、軍勢の中に呼ばわる声がした、「めいめいその町へ、めいめいその国へ帰れ」。 |
| 22-37 |
So the king died, and was brought to Samaria; and they buried the king in Samaria. |
王は死んで、サマリヤへ携え行かれた。人々は王をサマリヤに葬った。 |
| 22-38 |
And they washed the chariot by the pool of Samaria; and the dogs licked up his blood (now the harlots washed themselves there); according unto the word of Jehovah which he spake. |
またその戦車をサマリヤの池で洗ったが、犬がその血をなめた。また遊女がそこで身を洗った。主が言われた言葉のとおりである。 |
| 22-39 |
Now the rest of the acts of Ahab, and all that he did, and the ivory house which he built, and all the cities that he built, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel? |
アハブのそのほかの事績と、彼がしたすべての事と、その建てた象牙の家と、その建てたすべての町は、イスラエルの王の歴代志の書にしるされているではないか。 |
| 22-40 |
So Ahab slept with his fathers; and Ahaziah his son reigned in his stead. |
こうしてアハブはその先祖と共に眠って、その子アハジヤが代って王となった。 |
| 22-41 |
And Jehoshaphat the son of Asa began to reign over Judah in the fourth year of Ahab king of Israel. |
アサの子ヨシャパテはイスラエルの王アハブの第四年にユダの王となった。 |
| 22-42 |
Jehoshaphat was thirty and five years old when he began to reign; and he reigned twenty and five years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Azubah the daughter of Shilhi. |
ヨシャパテは王となった時、三十五歳であったが、エルサレムで二十五年世を治めた。その母の名はアズバといい、シルヒの娘であった。 |

And he walked in all the way of Asa his father; He turned not aside from it, doing that which was right in the eyes of Jehovah: howbeit the high places were not taken away; the people still sacrificed and burnt incense in the high places. |
3ヨシャパテは父アサのすべての道に歩み、それを離れることなく、主の目にかなう事をした。ただし高き所は除かなかったので、民はなお高き所で犠牲をささげ、香をたいた。 |
| 22-44 |
And Jehoshaphat made peace with the king of Israel. |
ヨシャパテはまたイスラエルの王と、よしみを結んだ。 |
| 22-45 |
Now the rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, and his might that he showed, and how he warred, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? |
ヨシャパテのその他の事績と、彼があらわした勲功およびその戦争については、ユダの王の歴代志の書にしるされているではないか。 |

46?And the remnant of the sodomites, that remained in the days of his father Asa, he put away out of the land. |
彼は父アサの世になお残っていた神殿男娼たちを国のうちから追い払った。 |

And there was no king in Edom: a deputy was king. |
そのころエドムには王がなく、代官が王であった。 |
| 22-48 |
Jehoshaphat made ships of Tarshish to go to Ophir for gold: but they went not; for the ships were broken at Ezion-geber. |
ヨシャパテはタルシシの船を造って、金を獲るためにオフルに行かせようとしたが、その船はエジオン・ゲベルで難破したため、ついに行かなかった。 |
| 22-49 |
Then said Ahaziah the son of Ahab unto Jehoshaphat, Let my servants go with thy servants in the ships. But Jehoshaphat would not. |
そこでアハブの子アハジヤはヨシャパテに「わたしの家来をあなたの家来と一緒に船で行かせなさい」と言ったが、ヨシャパテは承知しなかった。 |

And Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David his father; And Jehoram his son reigned in his stead. |
ヨシャパテはその先祖と共に眠って、父ダビデの町に先祖と共に葬られ、その子ヨラムが代って王となった。 |

Ahaziah the son of Ahab began to reign over Israel in Samaria in the seventeenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and he reigned two years over Israel. |
アハブの子アハジヤはユダの王ヨシャパテの第十七年にサマリヤでイスラエルの王となり、二年イスラエルを治めた。 |

And he did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah, and walked in the way of his father, and in the way of his mother, and in the way of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, wherein he made Israel to sin. |

And he served Baal, and worshipped him, and provoked to anger Jehovah, the God of Israel, according to all that his father had done. |
