How doth the city sit solitary, that was full of people!She is become as a widow, that was great among the nations!She that was a princess among the provinces is become tributary! |
ああ、むかしは、民の満ちみちていたこの都、国々の民のうちで大いなる者であったこの町、今は寂しいさまで座し、やもめのようになった。もろもろの町のうちで女王であった者、今は奴隷となった。 |

She weepeth sore in the night, and her tears are on her cheeks;Among all her lovers she hath none to comfort her:All her friends have dealt treacherously with her; they are become her enemies. |
これは夜もすがらいたく泣き悲しみ、そのほおには涙が流れている。そのすべての愛する者のうちには、これを慰める者はひとりもなく、そのすべての友はこれにそむいて、その敵となった。 |

Judah is gone into captivity because of affliction, and because of great servitude;She dwelleth among the nations, she findeth no rest:All her persecutors overtook her within the straits. |
ユダは悩みのゆえに、また激しい苦役のゆえに、のがれて行って、もろもろの国民のうちに住んでいるが、安息を得ず、これを追う者がみな追いついてみると、悩みのうちにあった。 |

The ways of Zion do mourn, because none come to the solemn assembly;All her gates are desolate, her priests do sigh:Her virgins are afflicted, and she herself is in bitterness. |
シオンの道は祭に上ってくる者のないために悲しみ、その門はことごとく荒れ、その祭司たちは嘆き、そのおとめたちは引かれて行き、シオンはみずからいたく苦しむ。 |

Her adversaries are become the head, her enemies prosper;For Jehovah hath afflicted her for the multitude of her transgressions:Her young children are gone into captivity before the adversary. |
そのあだはかしらとなり、その敵は栄えている。そのとがが多いので、主がこれを悩まされたからである。その幼な子たちは捕われて、あだの前に行った。 |

And from the daughter of Zion all her majesty is departed:Her princes are become like harts that find no pasture,And they are gone without strength before the pursuer. |
シオンの娘の栄華はことごとく彼女を離れ去り、その君たちは牧草を得ない、しかのようになり、自分を追う者の前に力なく逃げ去った。 |

Jerusalem remembereth in the days of her affliction and of her miseries all her pleasant things that were from the days of old:When her people fell into the hand of the adversary, and none did help her,The adversaries saw her, they did mock at her desolations. |
エルサレムはその悩みと苦しみの日に、昔から持っていたもろもろの宝を思い出す。その民があだの手に陥り、だれもこれを助ける者のない時、あだはこれを見て、その滅びをあざ笑った。 |

Jerusalem hath grievously sinned; therefore she is become as an unclean thing;All that honored her despise her, because they have seen her nakedness:Yea, she sigheth, and turneth backward. |
エルサレムは、はなはだしく罪を犯したので、汚れたものとなった。これを尊んだ者も皆その裸を見たので、これを卑しめる。これもまたみずから嘆き、顔をそむける。 |

Her filthiness was in her skirts; she remembered not her latter end;Therefore is she come down wonderfully; she hath no comforter:Behold, O Jehovah, my affliction; for the enemy hath magnified himself. |
その汚れはその衣のすそにあり、これはその終りを思わなかった。それゆえ、これは驚くばかりに落ちぶれ、これを慰める者はひとりもない。「主よ、わが悩みを顧みてください、敵は勝ち誇っていますから」。 |

The adversary hath spread out his hand upon all her pleasant things:For she hath seen that the nations are entered into her sanctuary,Concerning whom thou didst command that they should not enter into thine assembly. |
敵は手を伸べて、その財宝をことごとく奪った。あなたがさきに異邦人らはあなたの公会に、はいってはならないと命じられたのに、彼らがその聖所にはいるのをシオンは見た。 |

All her people sigh, they seek bread;They have given their pleasant things for food to refresh the soul:See, O Jehovah, and behold; for I am become abject. |
その民はみな嘆いて食物を求め、その命をささえるために、財宝を食物にかえた。「主よ、みそなわして、わたしの卑しめられるのを顧みてください」。 |

Is it nothing to you, all ye that pass by?Behold, and see if there be any sorrow like unto my sorrow, which is brought upon me,Wherewith Jehovah hath afflicted me in the day of his fierce anger. |
「すべて道行く人よ、あなたがたはなんとも思わないのか。主がその激しい怒りの日にわたしを悩まして、わたしにくだされた苦しみのような苦しみが、また世にあるだろうか、尋ねて見よ。 |

From on high hath he sent fire into my bones, and it prevaileth against them;He hath spread a net for my feet, he hath turned me back:He hath made me desolate and faint all the day. |
主は上から火を送り、それをわが骨にくだし、網を張ってわが足を捕え、わたしを引き返させ、ひねもす心わびしく、かつ病み衰えさせられた。 |

The yoke of my transgressions is bound by his hand;They are knit together, they are come up upon my neck; he hath made my strength to fail:The Lord hath delivered me into their hands, against whom I am not able to stand. |
わたしのとがは、つかねられて、一つのくびきとせられ、主のみ手により固く締められて、わたしの首におかれ、わたしの力を衰えさせられた。主はわたしを、立ちむかい得ざる者の手に渡された。 |

The Lord hath set at nought all my mighty men in the midst of me;He hath called a solemn assembly against me to crush my young men:The Lord hath trodden as in a winepress the virgin daughter of Judah. |
主はわたしのうちにあるすべての勇士を無視し、聖会を召集して、わたしを攻め、わが若き人々を打ち滅ぼされた。主は酒ぶねを踏むように、ユダの娘なるおとめを踏みつけられた。 |

For these things I weep; mine eye, mine eye runneth down with water;Because the comforter that should refresh my soul is far from me:My children are desolate, because the enemy hath prevailed. |
このために、わたしは泣き悲しみ、わたしの目は涙であふれる。わたしを慰める者、わたしを勇気づける者がわたしから遠く離れたからである。わが子らは敵が勝ったために、わびしい者となった」。 |

Zion spreadeth forth her hands; there is none to comfort her;Jehovah hath commanded concerning Jacob, that they that are round about him should be his adversaries:Jerusalem is among them as an unclean thing. |
シオンは手を伸ばしても、これを慰める者はひとりもない。ヤコブについては、主は命じて、その周囲の者を、これがあだとせられた。エルサレムは彼らの中にあって、汚れた物のようになった。 |

Jehovah is righteous; for I have rebelled against his commandment:Hear, I pray you, all ye peoples, and behold my sorrow:My virgins and my young men are gone into captivity. |
「主は正しい、わたしは、み言葉にそむいた。すべての民よ、聞け、わが苦しみを顧みよ。わがおとめらも、わが若人らも捕われて行った。 |

I called for my lovers, but they deceived me:My priests and mine elders gave up the ghost in the city,While they sought them food to refresh their souls. |
わたしはわが愛する者を呼んだが、彼らはわたしを欺いた。わが祭司および長老たちは、その命をささえようと、食物を求めている間に、町のうちで息絶えた。 |

Behold, O Jehovah; for I am in distress; my heart is troubled;My heart is turned within me; for I have grievously rebelled:Abroad the sword bereaveth, at home there is as death. |
主よ、顧みてください、わたしは悩み、わがはらわたはわきかえり、わが心臓はわたしの内に転倒しています。わたしは、はなはだしくそむいたからです。外にはつるぎがあって、わが子を奪い、家の内には死のようなものがある。 |

They have heard that I sigh; there is none to comfort me;All mine enemies have heard of my trouble; they are glad that thou hast done it:Thou wilt bring the day that thou hast proclaimed, and they shall be like unto me. |
わたしがどんなに嘆くかを聞いてください。わたしを慰める者はひとりもなく、敵はみなわたしの悩みを聞いて、あなたがこれをなされたのを喜んだ。あなたがさきに告げ知らせたその日をきたらせ、彼らをも、わたしのようにしてください。 |

Let all their wickedness come before thee;And do unto them, as thou hast done unto me for all my transgressions:For my sighs are many, and my heart is faint. |
彼らの悪をことごとくあなたの前にあらわし、さきにわがもろもろのとがのために、わたしに行われたように、彼らにも行ってください。わが嘆きは多く、わが心は弱りはてているからです」。 |
