3-1 I am the man that hath seen affliction by the rod of his wrath. わたしは彼の怒りのむちによって、悩みにあった人である。
3-2 He hath led me and caused me to walk in darkness, and not in light. 彼はわたしをかり立てて、光のない暗い中を歩かせ、
3-3 Surely against me he turneth his hand again and again all the day. まことにその手をしばしばかえて、ひねもすわたしを攻められた。
3-4 My flesh and my skin hath he made old; he hath broken my bones. 彼はわが肉と皮を衰えさせ、わが骨を砕き、
3-5 He hath builded against me, and compassed me with gall and travail. 苦しみと悩みをもって、わたしを囲み、わたしを閉じこめ、
3-6 He hath made me to dwell in dark places, as those that have been long dead. 遠い昔に死んだ者のように、暗い所に住まわせられた。
3-7 He hath walled me about, that I cannot go forth; he hath made my chain heavy. 彼はわたしのまわりに、かきをめぐらして、出ることのできないようにし、重い鎖でわたしをつながれた。
3-8 Yea, when I cry, and call for help, he shutteth out my prayer. わたしは叫んで助けを求めたが、彼はわたしの祈をしりぞけ、
3-9 He hath walled up my ways with hewn stone; he hath made my paths crooked. 切り石をもって、わたしの行く道をふさぎ、わたしの道筋を曲げられた。
3-10 He is unto me as a bear lying in wait, as a lion in secret places. 彼はわたしに対して待ち伏せするくまのように、潜み隠れるししのように、
3-11 He hath turned aside my ways, and pulled me in pieces; he hath made me desolate. わが道を離れさせ、わたしを引き裂いて、見るかげもないみじめな者とし、
3-12 He hath bent his bow, and set me as a mark for the arrow. その弓を張って、わたしを矢の的のようにされた。
3-13 He hath caused the shafts of his quiver to enter into my reins. 彼はその箙の矢をわたしの心臓に打ち込まれた。
3-14 I am become a derision to all my people, and their song all the day. わたしはすべての民の物笑いとなり、ひねもす彼らの歌となった。
3-15 He hath filled me with bitterness, he hath sated me with wormwood. 彼はわたしを苦い物で飽かせ、にがよもぎをわたしに飲ませられた。
3-16 He hath also broken my teeth with gravel stones; he hath covered me with ashes. 彼は小石をもって、わたしの歯を砕き、灰の中にわたしをころがされた。
3-17 And thou hast removed my soul far off from peace; I forgat prosperity. わが魂は平和を失い、わたしは幸福を忘れた。
3-18 And I said, My strength is perished, and mine expectation from Jehovah. そこでわたしは言った、「わが栄えはうせ去り、わたしが主に望むところのものもうせ去った」と。
3-19 Remember mine affliction and my misery, the wormwood and the gall. どうか、わが悩みと苦しみ、にがよもぎと胆汁とを心に留めてください。
3-20 My soul hath them still in remembrance, and is bowed down within me. わが魂は絶えずこれを思って、わがうちにうなだれる。
3-21 This I recall to my mind; therefore have I hope. しかし、わたしはこの事を心に思い起す。それゆえ、わたしは望みをいだく。
3-22 It is of Jehovah’s lovingkindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. 主のいつくしみは絶えることがなく、そのあわれみは尽きることがない。
3-23 They are new every morning; great is thy faithfulness. これは朝ごとに新しく、あなたの真実は大きい。
3-24 Jehovah is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him. わが魂は言う、「主はわたしの受くべき分である、それゆえ、わたしは彼を待ち望む」と。
3-25 Jehovah is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him. 主はおのれを待ち望む者と、おのれを尋ね求める者にむかって恵みふかい。
3-26 It is good that a man should hope and quietly wait for the salvation of Jehovah. 主の救を静かに待ち望むことは、良いことである。
3-27 It is good for a man that he bear the yoke in his youth. 人が若い時にくびきを負うことは、良いことである。
3-28 Let him sit alone and keep silence, because he hath laid it upon him. 主がこれを負わせられるとき、ひとりすわって黙しているがよい。
3-29 Let him put his mouth in the dust, if so be there may be hope. 口をちりにつけよ、あるいはなお望みがあるであろう。
3-30 Let him give his cheek to him that smiteth him; let him be filled full with reproach. おのれを撃つ者にほおを向け、満ち足りるまでに、はずかしめを受けよ。
3-31 For the Lord will not cast off for ever. 主はとこしえにこのような人を捨てられないからである。
3-32 For though he cause grief, yet will he have compassion according to the multitude of his lovingkindnesses. 彼は悩みを与えられるが、そのいつくしみが豊かなので、またあわれみをたれられる。
3-33 For he doth not afflict willingly, nor grieve the children of men. 彼は心から人の子を苦しめ悩ますことをされないからである。
3-34 To crush under foot all the prisoners of the earth, 地のすべての捕われ人を足の下に踏みにじり、
3-35 To turn aside the right of a man before the face of the Most High, いと高き者の前に人の公義をまげ、
3-36 To subvert a man in his cause, the Lord approveth not. 人の訴えをくつがえすことは、主のよみせられないことである。
3-37 Who is he that saith, and it cometh to pass, when the Lord commandeth it not? 主が命じられたのでなければ、だれが命じて、その事の成ったことがあるか。
3-38 Out of the mouth of the Most High cometh there not evil and good? 災もさいわいも、いと高き者の口から出るではないか。
3-39 Wherefore doth a living man complain, a man for the punishment of his sins? 生ける人はどうしてつぶやかねばならないのか、人は自分の罪の罰せられるのを、つぶやくことができようか。
3-40 Let us search and try our ways, and turn again to Jehovah. われわれは、自分の行いを調べ、かつ省みて、主に帰ろう。
3-41 Let us lift up our heart with our hands unto God in the heavens. われわれは天にいます神にむかって、手と共に心をもあげよう。
3-42 We have transgressed and have rebelled; thou hast not pardoned. 「わたしたちは罪を犯し、そむきました、あなたはおゆるしになりませんでした。
3-43 Thou hast covered with anger and pursued us; thou hast slain, thou hast not pitied. あなたは怒りをもってご自分をおおい、わたしたちを追い攻め、殺して、あわれまず、
3-44 Thou hast covered thyself with a cloud, so that no prayer can pass through. また雲をもってご自分をおおい、祈を通じないようにし、
3-45 Thou hast made us an off-scouring and refuse in the midst of the peoples. もろもろの民の中に、わたしたちをちりあくたとなさいました。
3-46 All our enemies have opened their mouth wide against us. 敵はみなわたしたちをののしり、
3-47 Fear and the pit are come upon us, devastation and destruction. 恐れと落し穴と、荒廃と滅亡とが、わたしたちに臨みました。
3-48 Mine eye runneth down with streams of water, for the destruction of the daughter of my people. わが民の娘の滅びによって、わたしの目には涙の川が流れています。
3-49 Mine eye poureth down, and ceaseth not, without any intermission, わが目は絶えず涙を注ぎ出して、やむことなく、
3-50 Till Jehovah look down, and behold from heaven. 主が天から見おろして、顧みられる時にまで及ぶでしょう。
3-51 Mine eye affecteth my soul, because of all the daughters of my city. わが目はわが町のすべての娘の最期のゆえに、わたしを痛ませます。
3-52 They have chased me sore like a bird, they that are mine enemies without cause. ゆえなくわたしに敵する者どもによって、わたしは鳥のように追われました。
3-53 They have cut off my life in the dungeon, and have cast a stone upon me. 彼らは生きているわたしを穴の中に投げ入れ、わたしの上に石を投げつけました。
3-54 Waters flowed over my head; I said, I am cut off. 水はわたしの頭の上にあふれ、わたしは『断ち滅ぼされた』と言いました。
3-55 I called upon thy name, O Jehovah, out of the lowest dungeon. 主よ、わたしは深い穴からみ名を呼びました。
3-56 Thou heardest my voice; hide not thine ear at my breathing, at my cry. あなたはわが声を聞かれました、『わが嘆きと叫びに耳をふさがないでください』。
3-57 Thou drewest near in the day that I called upon thee; thou saidst, Fear not. わたしがあなたに呼ばわったとき、あなたは近寄って、『恐れるな』と言われました。
3-58 O Lord, thou hast pleaded the causes of my soul; thou hast redeemed my life. 主よ、あなたはわが訴えを取りあげて、わたしの命をあがなわれました。
3-59 O Jehovah, thou hast seen my wrong; judge thou my cause. 主よ、あなたはわたしがこうむった不義をごらんになりました。わたしの訴えをおさばきください。
3-60 Thou hast seen all their vengeance and all their devices against me. あなたはわたしに対する彼らの報復と、陰謀とを、ことごとくごらんになりました。
3-61 Thou hast heard their reproach, O Jehovah, and all their devices against me, 主よ、あなたはわたしに対する彼らのそしりと、陰謀とを、ことごとく聞かれました。
3-62 The lips of those that rose up against me, and their device against me all the day. 立ってわたしに逆らう者どものくちびると、その思いは、ひねもすわたしを攻めています。
3-63 Behold thou their sitting down, and their rising up; I am their song. どうか、彼らのすわるをも、立つをも、みそなわしてください。わたしは彼らの歌となっています。
3-64 Thou wilt render unto them a recompense, O Jehovah, according to the work of their hands. 主よ、彼らの手のわざにしたがって、彼らに報い、
3-65 Thou wilt give them hardness of heart, thy curse unto them. 彼らの心をかたくなにし、あなたののろいを彼らに注いでください。
3-66 Thou wilt pursue them in anger, and destroy them from under the heavens of Jehovah. 主よ、怒りをもって彼らを追い、天が下から彼らを滅ぼしてください」。
