And all the people gathered themselves together as one man into the broad place that was before the water gate; and they spake unto Ezra the scribe to bring the book of the law of Moses, which Jehovah had commanded to Israel. |
その時民は皆ひとりのようになって水の門の前の広場に集まり、主がイスラエルに与えられたモーセの律法の書を持って来るように、学者エズラに求めた。 |

And Ezra the priest brought the law before the assembly, both men and women, and all that could hear with understanding, upon the first day of the seventh month. |
祭司エズラは七月の一日に律法を携えて来て、男女の会衆およびすべて聞いて悟ることのできる人々の前にあらわれ、 |
| 8-3 |
And he read therein before the broad place that was before the water gate from early morning until midday, in the presence of the men and the women, and of those that could understand; and the ears of all the people were attentive unto the book of the law. |
水の門の前にある広場で、あけぼのから正午まで、男女および悟ることのできる人々の前でこれを読んだ。民はみな律法の書に耳を傾けた。 |

And Ezra the scribe stood upon a pulpit of wood, which they had made for the purpose; and beside him stood Mattithiah, and Shema, and Anaiah, and Uriah, and Hilkiah, and Maaseiah, on his right hand; and on his left hand, Pedaiah, and Mishael, and Malchijah, and Hashum, and Hashbaddanah, Zechariah, and Meshullam. |
学者エズラはこの事のために、かねて設けた木の台の上に立ったが、彼のかたわらには右の方にマッタテヤ、シマ、アナヤ、ウリヤ、ヒルキヤおよびマアセヤが立ち、左の方にはペダヤ、ミサエル、マルキヤ、ハシュム、ハシバダナ、ゼカリヤおよびメシュラムが立った。 |

And Ezra opened the book in the sight of all the people; (for he was above all the people;) and when he opened it, all the people stood up: |
エズラはすべての民の前にその書を開いた。彼はすべての民よりも高い所にいたからである。彼が書を開くと、すべての民は起立した。 |
| 8-6 |
and Ezra blessed Jehovah, the great God. And all the people answered, Amen, Amen, with the lifting up of their hands: and they bowed their heads, and worshipped Jehovah with their faces to the ground. |
エズラは大いなる神、主をほめ、民は皆その手をあげて、「アァメン、アァメン」と言って答え、こうべをたれ、地にひれ伏して主を拝した。 |

Also Jeshua, and Bani, and Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodiah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan, Pelaiah, and the Levites, caused the people to understand the law: and the people stood in their place. |
エシュア、バニ、セレビヤ、ヤミン、アックブ、シャベタイ、ホデヤ、マアセヤ、ケリタ、アザリヤ、ヨザバデ、ハナン、ペラヤおよびレビびとたちは民に律法を悟らせた。民はその所に立っていた。 |

And they read in the book, in the law of God, distinctly; and they gave the sense, so that they understood the reading. |
彼らはその書、すなわち神の律法をめいりょうに読み、その意味を解き明かしてその読むところを悟らせた。 |
| 8-9 |
And Nehemiah, who was the governor, and Ezra the priest the scribe, and the Levites that taught the people, said unto all the people, This day is holy unto Jehovah your God; mourn not, nor weep. For all the people wept, when they heard the words of the law. |
総督であるネヘミヤと、祭司であり、学者であるエズラと、民を教えるレビびとたちはすべての民に向かって「この日はあなたがたの神、主の聖なる日です。嘆いたり、泣いたりしてはならない」と言った。すべての民が律法の言葉を聞いて泣いたからである。 |

Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto him for whom nothing is prepared; for this day is holy unto our Lord: neither be ye grieved; for the joy of Jehovah is your strength. |
そして彼らに言った、「あなたがたは去って、肥えたものを食べ、甘いものを飲みなさい。その備えのないものには分けてやりなさい。この日はわれわれの主の聖なる日です。憂えてはならない。主を喜ぶことはあなたがたの力です」。 |

So the Levites stilled all the people, saying, Hold your peace, for the day is holy; neither be ye grieved. |
レビびともまたすべての民を静めて、「泣くことをやめなさい。この日は聖なる日です。憂えてはならない」と言った。 |
| 8-12 |
And all the people went their way to eat, and to drink, and to send portions, and to make great mirth, because they had understood the words that were declared unto them. |
すべての民は去って食い飲みし、また分け与えて、大いに喜んだ。これは彼らが読み聞かされた言葉を悟ったからである。 |
| 8-13 |
And on the second day were gathered together the heads of fathers’ houses of all the people, the priests, and the Levites, unto Ezra the scribe, even to give attention to the words of the law. |
次の日、すべての民の氏族の長たち、祭司、レビびとらは律法の言葉を学ぶために学者エズラのもとに集まってきて、 |

And they found written in the law, how that Jehovah had commanded by Moses, that the children of Israel should dwell in booths in the feast of the seventh month; |
律法のうちに主がモーセに命じられたこと、すなわちイスラエルの人々は七月の祭の間、仮庵の中に住むべきことがしるされているのを見いだした。 |
| 8-15 |
and that they should publish and proclaim in all their cities, and in Jerusalem, saying, Go forth unto the mount, and fetch olive branches, and branches of wild olive, and myrtle branches, and palm branches, and branches of thick trees, to make booths, as it is written. |
またすべての町々およびエルサレムにのべ伝えて、「あなたがたは山に出て行って、オリブと野生のオリブ、ミルトス、なつめやし、および茂った木の枝を取ってきて、しるされてあるとおり、仮庵を造れ」と言ってあるのを見いだした。 |

So the people went forth, and brought them, and made themselves booths, every one upon the roof of his house, and in their courts, and in the courts of the house of God, and in the broad place of the water gate, and in the broad place of the gate of Ephraim. |
それで民は出て行って、それを持って帰り、おのおのその家の屋根の上、その庭、神の宮の庭、水の門の広場、エフライムの門の広場などに仮庵を造った。 |

And all the assembly of them that were come again out of the captivity made booths, and dwelt in the booths; for since the days of Jeshua the son of Nun unto that day had not the children of Israel done so. And there was very great gladness. |
捕囚から帰って来た会衆は皆仮庵を造って、仮庵に住んだ。ヌンの子ヨシュアの日からこの日まで、イスラエルの人々はこのように行ったことがなかった。それでその喜びは非常に大きかった。 |

Also day by day, from the first day unto the last day, he read in the book of the law of God. And they kept the feast seven days; and on the eighth day was a solemn assembly, according unto the ordinance. |
エズラは初めの日から終りの日まで、毎日神の律法の書を読んだ。人々は七日の間、祭を行い、八日目になって、おきてにしたがって聖会を開いた。 |
