19-1 Better is the poor that walketh in his integrity .Than he that is perverse in his lips and is a fool. 正しく歩む貧しい者は、曲ったことを言う愚かな者にまさる。
19-2 2 Also, that the soul be without knowledge is not good; And he that hasteth with his feet sinneth. 人が知識のないのは良くない、足で急ぐ者は道に迷う。
19-3 The foolishness of man subverteth his way; And his heart fretteth against Jehovah. 人は自分の愚かさによって道につまずき、かえって心のうちに主をうらむ。
19-4 Wealth addeth many friends; But the poor is separated from his friend. 富は多くの新しい友を作る、しかし貧しい人はその友に捨てられる。
19-5 A false witness shall not be unpunished; And he that uttereth lies shall not escape. 偽りの証人は罰を免れない、偽りをいう者はのがれることができない。
19-6 Many will entreat the favor of the liberal man; And every man is a friend to him that giveth gifts. 気前のよい人にこびる者は多い、人はみな贈り物をする人の友となる。
19-7 All the brethren of the poor do hate him: How much more do his friends go far from him! He pursueth them with words, but they are gone. 貧しい者はその兄弟すらもみなこれを憎む、ましてその友はこれに遠ざからないであろうか。言葉をかけてこれを呼んでも、去って帰らないのである。
19-8 He that getteth wisdom loveth his own soul: He that keepeth understanding shall find good. 知恵を得る者は自分の魂を愛し、悟りを保つ者は幸を得る。
19-9 A false witness shall not be unpunished; And he that uttereth lies shall perish. 偽りの証人は罰を免れない、偽りをいう者は滅びる。
19-10 Delicate living is not seemly for a fool; Much less for a servant to have rule over princes. 愚かな者が、ぜいたくな暮しをするのは、ふさわしいことではない、しもべたる者が、君たる者を治めるなどは、なおさらである。
19-11 The discretion of a man maketh him slow to anger; And it is his glory to pass over a transgression. 悟りは人に怒りを忍ばせる、あやまちをゆるすのは人の誉である。
19-12 The king’s wrath is as the roaring of a lion; But his favor is as dew upon the grass. 王の怒りは、ししのほえるようであり、その恵みは草の上におく露のようである。
19-13 A foolish son is the calamity of his father; And the contentions of a wife are a continual dropping. 愚かな子はその父の災である、妻の争うのは、雨漏りの絶えないのとひとしい。
19-14 House and riches are an inheritance from fathers; But a prudent wife is from Jehovah. 家と富とは先祖からうけつぐもの、賢い妻は主から賜わるものである。
19-15 Slothfulness casteth into a deep sleep; And the idle soul shall suffer hunger. 怠りは人を熟睡させる、なまけ者は飢える。
19-16 He that keepeth the commandment keepeth his soul; But he that is careless of his ways shall die. 戒めを守る者は自分の魂を守る、み言葉を軽んじる者は死ぬ。
19-17 He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto Jehovah, And his good deed will he pay him again. 貧しい者をあわれむ者は主に貸すのだ、その施しは主が償われる。
19-18 Chasten thy son, seeing there is hope; and set not thy heart on his destruction. 望みのあるうちに、自分の子を懲らせ、これを滅ぼす心を起してはならない。
19-19 A man of great wrath shall bear the penalty; For if thou deliver him, thou must do it yet again. 怒ることの激しい者は罰をうける、たとい彼を救ってやっても、さらにくり返さねばならない。
19-20 Hear counsel, and receive instruction, That thou mayest be wise in thy latter end. 勧めを聞き、教訓をうけよ、そうすれば、ついには知恵ある者となる。
19-21 There are many devices in a man’s heart; But the counsel of Jehovah, that shall stand. 人の心には多くの計画がある、しかしただ主の、み旨だけが堅く立つ。
19-22 That which maketh a man to be desired is his kindness; And a poor man is better than a liar. 人に望ましいのは、いつくしみ深いことである、貧しい人は偽りをいう人にまさる。
19-23 The fear of Jehovah tendeth to life; And he that hath it shall abide satisfied; He shall not be visited with evil. 主を恐れることは人を命に至らせ、常に飽き足りて、災にあうことはない。
19-24 The sluggard burieth his hand in the dish, And will not so much as bring it to his mouth again. なまけ者は、手を皿に入れても、それを口に持ってゆくことをしない。
19-25 Smite a scoffer, and the simple will learn prudence; And reprove one that hath understanding, and he will understand knowledge. あざける者を打て、そうすれば思慮のない者も慎む。さとき者を戒めよ、そうすれば彼は知識を得る。
19-26 He that doeth violence to his father, and chaseth away his mother, Is a son that causeth shame and bringeth reproach. 父に乱暴をはたらき、母を追い出す者は、恥をきたらし、はずかしめをまねく子である。
19-27 Cease, my son, to hear instruction .Only to err from the words of knowledge. わが子よ、知識の言葉をはなれて人を迷わせる。教訓を聞くことをやめよ。
19-28 A worthless witness mocketh at justice; And the mouth of the wicked swalloweth iniquity. 悪い証人はさばきをあざけり、悪しき者の口は悪をむさぼり食う。
19-29 Judgments are prepared for scoffers, And stripes for the back of fools. さばきはあざける者のために備えられ、むちは愚かな者の背のために備えられる。
