106-1 Praise ye Jehovah. Oh give thanks unto Jehovah; for he is good; For his lovingkindness endureth forever. 主をほめたたえよ。主に感謝せよ、主は恵みふかく、そのいつくしみはとこしえに絶えることがない。
106-2 Who can utter the mighty acts of Jehovah, Or show forth all his praise? だれが主の大能のみわざを語り、その誉をことごとく言いあらわすことができようか。
106-3 Blessed are they that keep justice, And he that doeth righteousness at all times. 公正を守る人々、常に正義を行う人はさいわいである。
106-4 Remember me, O Jehovah, with the favor that thou bearest unto thy people; Oh visit me with thy salvation, 主よ、あなたがその民を恵まれるとき、わたしを覚えてください。あなたが彼らを救われるとき、わたしを助けてください。
106-5 That I may see the prosperity of thy chosen, That I may rejoice in the gladness of thy nation, That I may glory with thine inheritance. そうすれば、わたしはあなたの選ばれた者の繁栄を見、あなたの国民の喜びをよろこび、あなたの嗣業と共に誇ることができるでしょう。
106-6 We have sinned with our fathers, We have committed iniquity, we have done wickedly. われらは先祖たちと同じく罪を犯した。われらは不義をなし、悪しきことを行った。
106-7 Our fathers understood not thy wonders in Egypt; They remembered not the multitude of thy lovingkindnesses, But were rebellious at the sea, even at the Red Sea. われらの先祖たちはエジプトにいたとき、あなたのくすしきみわざに心を留めず、あなたのいつくしみの豊かなのを思わず、紅海で、いと高き神にそむいた。
106-8 Nevertheless he saved them for his name’s sake, That he might make his mighty power to be known. けれども主はその大能を知らせようと、み名のために彼らを救われた。
106-9 He rebuked the Red Sea also, and it was dried up: So he led them through the depths, as through a wilderness. 主は紅海をしかって、それをかわかし、彼らを導いて荒野を行くように、淵を通らせられた。
106-10 And he saved them from the hand of him that hated them, And redeemed them from the hand of the enemy. こうして主は彼らをあだの手から救い、敵の力からあがなわれた。
106-11 And the waters covered their adversaries; There was not one of them left. 水が彼らのあだをおおったので、そのうち、ひとりも生き残った者はなかった。
106-12 Then believed they his words; They sang his praise. このとき彼らはそのみ言葉を信じ、その誉を歌った。
106-13 They soon forgat his works; They waited not for his counsel, しかし彼らはまもなくそのみわざを忘れ、その勧めを待たず、
106-14 But lusted exceedingly in the wilderness, And tempted God in the desert. 野でわがままな欲望を起し、荒野で神を試みた。
106-15 And he gave them their request, But sent leanness into their soul. 主は彼らにその求めるものを与えられたが、彼らのうちに病気を送って、やせ衰えさせられた。
106-16 They envied Moses also in the camp, And Aaron the saint of Jehovah. 人々が宿営のうちでモーセをねたみ、主の聖者アロンをねたんだとき、
106-17 The earth opened and swallowed up Dathan, And covered the company of Abiram. 地が開けてダタンを飲み、アビラムの仲間をおおった。
106-18 And a fire was kindled in their company; The flame burned up the wicked. 火はまたこの仲間のうちに燃え起り、炎は悪しき者を焼きつくした。
106-19 They made a calf in Horeb, And worshipped a molten image. 彼らはホレブで子牛を造り、鋳物の像を拝んだ。
106-20 Thus they changed their glory .For the likeness of an ox that eateth grass. 彼らは神の栄光を草を食う牛の像と取り替えた。
106-21 They forgat God their Saviour, Who had done great things in Egypt, 彼らは、エジプトで大いなる事をなし、ハムの地でくすしきみわざをなし、紅海のほとりで恐るべき事をなされた救主なる神を忘れた。
106-22 Wondrous works in the land of Ham, And terrible things by the Red Sea.
106-23 Therefore he said that he would destroy them, Had not Moses his chosen stood before him in the breach, To turn away his wrath, lest he should destroy them. それゆえ、主は彼らを滅ぼそうと言われた。しかし主のお選びになったモーセは破れ口で主のみ前に立ち、み怒りを引きかえして、滅びを免れさせた。
106-24 Yea, they despised the pleasant land, They believed not his word, 彼らは麗しい地を侮り、主の約束を信ぜず、
106-25 But murmured in their tents, And hearkened not unto the voice of Jehovah. またその天幕でつぶやき、主のみ声に聞き従わなかった。
106-26 Therefore he sware unto them, That he would overthrow them in the wilderness, それゆえ、主はみ手をあげて、彼らに誓い、彼らを荒野で倒れさせ、
106-27 And that he would overthrow their seed among the nations, And scatter them in the lands. またその子孫を、もろもろの国民のうちに追い散らし、もろもろの地に彼らをまき散らそうとされた。
106-28 They joined themselves also unto Baal-peor, And ate the sacrifices of the dead. また彼らはペオルのバアルを慕って、死んだ者にささげた、いけにえを食べた。
106-29 Thus they provoked him to anger with their doings; And the plague brake in upon them. 彼らはそのおこないをもって主を怒らせたので、彼らのうちに疫病が起った。
106-30 Then stood up Phinehas, and executed judgment; And so the plague was stayed. その時ピネハスが立って仲裁にはいったので、疫病はやんだ。
106-31 And that was reckoned unto him for righteousness, Unto all generations for evermore. これによってピネハスはよろず代まで、とこしえに義とされた。
106-32 They angered him also at the waters of Meribah, So that it went ill with Moses for their sakes; 彼らはまたメリバの水のほとりで主を怒らせたので、モーセは彼らのために災にあった。
106-33 Because they were rebellious against his spirit, And he spake unadvisedly with his lips. これは彼らが神の霊にそむいたとき、彼がそのくちびるで軽率なことを言ったからである。
106-34 They did not destroy the peoples, As Jehovah commanded them, 彼らは主が命じられたもろもろの民を滅ぼさず、
106-35 But mingled themselves with the nations, And learned their works, かえってもろもろの国民とまじってそのわざにならい、
106-36 And served their idols, Which became a snare unto them. 自分たちのわなとなった偶像に仕えた。
106-37 Yea, they sacrificed their sons and their daughters unto demons, 彼らはそのむすこ、娘たちを悪霊にささげ、
106-38 And shed innocent blood, Even the blood of their sons and of their daughters, Whom they sacrificed unto the idols of Canaan; And the land was polluted with blood. 罪のない血、すなわちカナンの偶像にささげたそのむすこ、娘たちの血を流した。こうして国は血で汚された。
106-39 Thus were they defiled with their works, And played the harlot in their doings. このように彼らはそのわざによっておのれを汚し、そのおこないによって姦淫をなした。
106-40 Therefore was the wrath of Jehovah kindled against his people, And he abhorred his inheritance. それゆえ、主の怒りがその民にむかって燃え、その嗣業を憎んで、
106-41 And he gave them into the hand of the nations; And they that hated them ruled over them. 彼らをもろもろの国民の手にわたされた。彼らはおのれを憎む者に治められ、
106-42 Their enemies also oppressed them, And they were brought into subjection under their hand. その敵にしえたげられ、その力の下に征服された。
106-43 Many times did he deliver them; But they were rebellious in their counsel, And were brought low in their iniquity. 主はしばしば彼らを助けられたが、彼らははかりごとを設けてそむき、その不義によって低くされた。
106-44 Nevertheless he regarded their distress, When he heard their cry: それにもかかわらず、主は彼らの叫びを聞かれたとき、その悩みをかえりみ、
106-45 And he remembered for them his covenant, And repented according to the multitude of his lovingkindnesses. その契約を彼らのために思い出し、そのいつくしみの豊かなるにより、みこころを変えられ、
106-46 He made them also to be pitied. Of all those that carried them captive. 彼らをとりこにした者どもによって、あわれまれるようにされた。
106-47 Save us, O Jehovah our God, And gather us from among the nations, To give thanks unto thy holy name, And to triumph in thy praise. われらの神、主よ、われらを救って、もろもろの国民のなかから集めてください。われらはあなたの聖なるみ名に感謝し、あなたの誉を誇るでしょう。
106-48 Blessed be Jehovah, the God of Israel, From everlasting even to everlasting. And let all the people say, Amen. Praise ye Jehovah. イスラエルの神、主はとこしえからとこしえまでほむべきかな。すべての民は「アァメン」ととなえよ。主をほめたたえよ。
