| 44-1 |
We have heard with our ears, O God, Our fathers have told us, What work thou didst in their days, In the days of old. |
神よ、いにしえ、われらの先祖たちの日に、あなたがなされたみわざを彼らがわれらに語ったのを耳で聞きました。 |
| 44-2 |
Thou didst drive out the nations with thy hand; But them thou didst plant: Thou didst afflict the peoples; But them thou didst spread abroad. |
すなわちあなたはみ手をもって、もろもろの国民を追い払ってわれらの先祖たちを植え、またもろもろの民を悩まして、われらの先祖たちをふえ広がらせられました。 |

For they gat not the land in possession by their own sword, Neither did their own arm save them; But thy right hand, and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance, Because thou wast favorable unto them. |
彼らは自分のつるぎによって国を獲たのでなく、また自分の腕によって勝利を得たのでもありません。ただあなたの右の手、あなたの腕、あなたのみ顔の光によるのでした。あなたが彼らを恵まれたからです。 |

Thou art my King, O God: Command deliverance for Jacob. |
あなたはわが王、わが神、ヤコブのために勝利を定められる方です。 |

Through thee will we push down our adversaries: Through thy name will we tread them under that rise up against us. |
われらはあなたによって、あだを押し倒し、われらに立ちむかう者を、み名によって踏みにじるのです。 |

For I will not trust in my bow, Neither shall my sword save me. |
わたしは自分の弓を頼まず、わたしのつるぎもまた、わたしを救うことができないからです。 |

But thou hast saved us from our adversaries, And hast put them to shame that hate us. |
しかしあなたはわれらをあだから救い、われらを憎む者をはずかしめられました。 |

In God have we made our boast all the day long, And we will give thanks unto thy name for ever. (Selah) |
われらは常に神によって誇り、とこしえにあなたのみ名に感謝するでしょう。(セラ) |

But now thou hast cast us off, and brought us to dishonor, And goest not forth with our hosts. |
ところがあなたはわれらを捨てて恥を負わせ、われらの軍勢と共に出て行かれませんでした。 |

Thou makest us to turn back from the adversary; And they that hate us take spoil for themselves. |
あなたがわれらをあだの前から退かせられたので、われらの敵は心のままにかすめ奪いました。 |
| 44-11 |
Thou hast made us like sheep appointed for food, And hast scattered us among the nations. |
あなたはわれらをほふられる羊のようにし、またもろもろの国民のなかに散らされました。 |

Thou sellest thy people for nought, And hast not increased thy wealth by their price. |
あなたはわずかの金であなたの民を売り、彼らのために高い価を求められませんでした。 |

Thou makest us a reproach to our neighbors, A scoffing and a derision to them that are round about us. |
あなたはわれらを隣り人にそしらせ、われらをめぐる者どもに侮らせ、あざけらせられました。 |

Thou makest us a byword among the nations, A shaking of the head among the peoples. |
またもろもろの国民のなかにわれらを笑い草とし、もろもろの民のなかに笑い者とされました。 |

All the day long is my dishonor before me, And the shame of my face hath covered me, |
わがはずかしめはひねもすわたしの前にあり、恥はわたしの顔をおおいました。 |
| 44-16 |
For the voice of him that reproacheth and blasphemeth, By reason of the enemy and the avenger. |
これはそしる者と、ののしる者の言葉により、敵と、恨みを報いる者のゆえによるのです。 |
| 44-17 |
All this is come upon us; Yet have we not forgotten thee, Neither have we dealt falsely in thy covenant. |
これらの事が皆われらに臨みましたが、われらはあなたを忘れず、あなたの契約にそむくことがありませんでした。 |

Our heart is not turned back, Neither have our steps declined from thy way, |
われらの心はたじろがず、またわれらの歩みはあなたの道を離れませんでした。 |

That thou hast sore broken us in the place of jackals, And covered us with the shadow of death. |
それでもあなたは山犬の住む所でわれらを砕き、暗やみをもってわれらをおおわれました。 |

If we have forgotten the name of our God, Or spread forth our hands to a strange god; |
われらがもしわれらの神の名を忘れ、ほかの神に手を伸べたことがあったならば、 |

Will not God search this out? For he knoweth the secrets of the heart. |
神はこれを見あらわされないでしょうか。神は心の秘密をも知っておられるからです。 |

Yea, for thy sake are we killed all the day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. |
ところがわれらはあなたのためにひねもす殺されて、ほふられる羊のようにみなされました。 |

Awake, why sleepest thou, O Lord? Arise, cast us not off for ever. |
主よ、起きてください。なぜ眠っておられるのですか。目をさましてください。われらをとこしえに捨てないでください。 |
| 44-24 |
Wherefore hidest thou thy face, And forgettest our affliction and our oppression? |
なぜあなたはみ顔を隠されるのですか。なぜわれらの悩みと、しえたげをお忘れになるのですか。 |
| 44-25 |
For our soul is bowed down to the dust: Our body cleaveth unto the earth. |
まことにわれらの魂はかがんで、ちりに伏し、われらのからだは土につきました。 |

Rise up for our help, And redeem us for thy lovingkindness’ sake. |
起きて、われらをお助けください。あなたのいつくしみのゆえに、われらをあがなってください。 |
