| 49-1 |
Hear this, all ye peoples; Give ear, all ye inhabitants of the world, |
もろもろの民よ、これを聞け、すべて世に住む者よ、耳を傾けよ。 |
| 49-2 |
Both low and high, Rich and poor together. |
低きも高きも、富めるも貧しきも、共に耳を傾けよ。 |
| 49-3 |
3 My mouth shall speak wisdom; And the meditation of my heart shall be of understanding. |
わが口は知恵を語り、わが心は知識を思う。 |
| 49-4 |
I will incline mine ear to a parable: I will open my dark saying upon the harp. |
わたしは耳をたとえに傾け、琴を鳴らして、わたしのなぞを解き明かそう。 |
| 49-5 |
Wherefore should I fear in the days of evil, When iniquity at my heels compasseth me about? |
わたしをしえたげる者の不義がわたしを取り囲む悩みの日に、どうして恐れなければならないのか。 |
| 49-6 |
They that trust in their wealth, And boast themselves in the multitude of their riches; |
彼らはおのが富をたのみ、そのたからの多いのを誇る人々である。 |
| 49-7 |
None of them can by any means redeem his brother, Nor give to God a ransom for him; |
まことに人はだれも自分をあがなうことはできない。そのいのちの価を神に払うことはできない。 |
| 49-8 |
(For the redemption of their life is costly, And it faileth for ever;)That
he should still live alway, That he should not see corruption. |
とこしえに生きながらえて、墓を見ないために、そのいのちをあがなうには、あまりに価高くて、それを満足に払うことができないからである。 |

| 49-10 |
For he shall see it. Wise men die; The fool and the brutish alike perish, And leave their wealth to others. |
まことに賢い人も死に、愚かな者も、獣のような者も、ひとしく滅んで、その富を他人に残すことは人の見るところである。 |
| 49-11 |
Their inward thought is, that their houses shall continue for ever, And their dwelling-places to all generations; They call their lands after their own names. |
たとい彼らはその地を自分の名をもって呼んでも、墓こそ彼らのとこしえのすまい、世々彼らのすみかである。 |
| 49-12 |
But man being in honor abideth not: He is like the beasts that perish. |
人は栄華のうちに長くとどまることはできない、滅びうせる獣にひとしい。 |
| 49-13 |
This their way is their folly: Yet after them men approve their sayings. （Selah） |
これぞ自分をたのむ愚かな者どもの成りゆき、自分の分け前を喜ぶ者どもの果である。（セラ） |
| 49-14 |
They are appointed as a flock for Sheol; Death shall be their shepherd; And the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning; And their beauty shall be for Sheol to consume, That there be no habitation for it. |
彼らは陰府に定められた羊のように死が彼らを牧するであろう。彼らはまっすぐに墓に下り、そのかたちは消えうせ、陰府が彼らのすまいとなるであろう。 |
| 49-15 |
But God will redeem my soul from the power of Sheol; For he will receive me. （Selah） |
しかし神はわたしを受けられるゆえ、わたしの魂を陰府の力からあがなわれる。（セラ） |
| 49-16 |
Be not thou afraid when one is made rich, When the glory of his house is increased. |
人が富を得るときも、その家の栄えが増し加わるときも、恐れてはならない。 |
| 49-17 |
For when he dieth he shall carry nothing away; His glory shall not descend after him. |
彼が死ぬときは何ひとつ携え行くことができず、その栄えも彼に従って下って行くことはないからである。 |
| 49-18 |
Though while he lived he blessed his soul (And men praise thee, when thou doest well to thyself,) |
たとい彼が生きながらえる間、自分を幸福と思っても、またみずから幸な時に、人々から称賛されても、 |
| 49-19 |
He shall go to the generation of his fathers; They shall never see the light. |
彼はついにおのれの先祖の仲間に連なる。彼らは絶えて光を見ることがない。 |
| 49-20 |
Man that is in honor, and understandeth not, Is like the beasts that perish. |
人は栄華のうちに長くとどまることはできない。滅びうせる獣にひとしい。 |
