1-1 In the eighth month, in the second year of Darius, came the word of Jehovah unto Zechariah the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo, the prophet, saying, ダリヨスの第二年の八月に、主の言葉がイドの子ベレキヤの子である預言者ゼカリヤに臨んだ、
1-2 Jehovah was sore displeased with your fathers. 「主はあなたがたの先祖たちに対して、いたくお怒りになった。
1-3 Therefore say thou unto them, Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: Return unto me, saith Jehovah of hosts, and I will return unto you, saith Jehovah of hosts. それゆえ、万軍の主はこう仰せられると、彼らに告げよ。万軍の主は仰せられる、わたしに帰れ、そうすれば、わたしもあなたがたに帰ろうと、万軍の主は仰せられる。
1-4 Be ye not as your fathers, unto whom the former prophets cried, saying, Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, Return ye now from your evil ways, and from your evil doings: but they did not hear, nor hearken unto me, saith Jehovah. あなたがたの先祖たちのようであってはならない。先の預言者たちは、彼らにむかって叫んで言った、『万軍の主はこう仰せられる、悪い道を離れ、悪いおこないを捨てて帰れ』と。しかし彼らは聞きいれず、耳をわたしに傾けなかったと主は言われる。
1-5 Your fathers, where are they? and the prophets, do they live for ever? あなたがたの先祖たち、彼らはどこにいるか。預言者たち、彼らは永遠に生きているのか。
1-6 But my words and my statutes, which I commanded my servants the prophets, did they not overtake your fathers? and they turned and said, Like as Jehovah of hosts thought to do unto us, according to our ways, and according to our doings, so hath he dealt with us. しかしわたしのしもべである預言者たちに命じたわが言葉と、わが定めとは、あなたがたの先祖たちに及んだではないか。それで彼らは立ち返って言った、『万軍の主がわれわれの道にしたがい、おこないに従って、われわれに、なそうと思い定められたように、そのとおりされたのだ』と」。
1-7 Upon the four and twentieth day of the eleventh month, which is the month Shebat, in the second year of Darius, came the word of Jehovah unto Zechariah the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo, the prophet, saying, ダリヨスの第二年の十一月、すなわちセバテという月の二十四日に、主の言葉がイドの子ベレキヤの子である預言者ゼカリヤに臨んだ。そしてゼカリヤは言った、
1-8 I saw in the night, and, behold, a man riding upon a red horse, and he stood among the myrtle-trees that were in the bottom; and behind him there were horses, red, sorrel, and white. 「わたしは夜、見ていると、ひとりの人が赤馬に乗って、谷間にあるミルトスの木の中に立ち、その後に赤馬、栗毛の馬、白馬がいた。
1-9 Then said I, O my lord, what are these? And the angel that talked with me said unto me, I will show thee what these are. その時わたしが『わが主よ、これらはなんですか』と尋ねると、わたしと語る天の使は言った、『これがなんであるか、あなたに示しましょう』。
1-10 And the man that stood among the myrtle-trees answered and said, These are they whom Jehovah hath sent to walk to and fro through the earth. すると、ミルトスの木の中に立っている人が答えて、『これらは地を見回らせるために、主がつかわされた者です』と言うと、
1-11 And they answered the angel of Jehovah that stood among the myrtle-trees, and said, We have walked to and fro through the earth, and, behold, all the earth sitteth still, and is at rest. 彼らは答えて、ミルトスの中に立っている主の使に言った、『われわれは地を見回ったが、全地はすべて平穏です』。
1-12 Then the angel of Jehovah answered and said, O Jehovah of hosts, how long wilt thou not have mercy on Jerusalem and on the cities of Judah, against which thou hast had indignation these threescore and ten years? すると主の使は言った、『万軍の主よ、あなたは、いつまでエルサレムとユダの町々とを、あわれんで下さらないのですか。あなたはお怒りになって、すでに七十年になりました』。
1-13 And Jehovah answered the angel that talked with me with good words, even comfortable words. 主はわたしと語る天の使に、ねんごろな慰めの言葉をもって答えられた。
1-14 So the angel that talked with me said unto me, Cry thou, saying, Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: I am jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion with a great jealousy. そこで、わたしと語る天の使は言った、『あなたは呼ばわって言いなさい。万軍の主はこう仰せられます、わたしはエルサレムのため、シオンのために、大いなるねたみを起し、
1-15 And I am very sore displeased with the nations that are at ease; for I was but a little displeased, and they helped forward the affliction. 安らかにいる国々の民に対して、大いに怒る。なぜなら、わたしが少しばかり怒ったのに、彼らは、大いにこれを悩ましたからであると。
1-16 Therefore thus saith Jehovah: I am returned to Jerusalem with mercies; my house shall be built in it, saith Jehovah of hosts, and a line shall be stretched forth over Jerusalem. それゆえ、主はこう仰せられます、わたしはあわれみをもってエルサレムに帰る。わたしの家はその中に建てられ、測りなわはエルサレムに張られると、万軍の主は仰せられます。
1-17 Cry yet again, saying, Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: My cities shall yet overflow with prosperity; and Jehovah shall yet comfort Zion, and shall yet choose Jerusalem. あなたはまた呼ばわって言いなさい。万軍の主はこう仰せられます、わが町々は再び良い物で満ちあふれ、主は再びシオンを慰め、再びエルサレムを選ぶ』と」。
1-18 And I lifted up mine eyes, and saw, and, behold, four horns. わたしが目をあげて見ていると、見よ、四つの角があった。
1-19 And I said unto the angel that talked with me, What are these? And he answered me, These are the horns which have scattered Judah, Israel, and Jerusalem. わたしと語る天の使に「これらはなんですか」と言うと、彼は答えて言った、「これらはユダ、イスラエルおよびエルサレムを散らした角です」。
1-20 And Jehovah showed me four smiths. その時、主は四人の鍛冶をわたしに示された。
1-21 Then said I, What come these to do? And he spake, saying, These are the horns which scattered Judah, so that no man did lift up his head; but these are come to terrify them, to cast down the horns of the nations, which lifted up their horn against the land of Judah to scatter it. わたしが「これらは何をするために来たのですか」と言うと、彼は答えた、「これらの角はユダを散らして、人にその頭をあげさせなかったものですが、この四人の者が来たのは彼らをおどし、かのユダの地にむかって角をあげ、これを散らした国々の民の角を投げうつためです」。
