２-１ For I would have you know how greatly I strive for you, and for them at Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh; わたしが、あなたがたとラオデキヤにいる人たちのため、また、直接にはまだ会ったことのない人々のために、どんなに苦闘しているか、わかってもらいたい。
２-２ that their hearts may be comforted, they being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, that they may know the mystery of God, even Christ, それは彼らが、心を励まされ、愛によって結び合わされ、豊かな理解力を十分に与えられ、神の奥義なるキリストを知るに至るためである。
２-３ in whom are all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge hidden. キリストのうちには、知恵と知識との宝が、いっさい隠されている。
２-４ This I say, that no one may delude you with persuasiveness of speech. わたしがこう言うのは、あなたがたが、だれにも巧みな言葉で迷わされることのないためである。
２-５ For though I am absent in the flesh, yet am I with you in the spirit, joying and beholding your order, and the stedfastness of your faith in Christ. たとい、わたしは肉体においては離れていても、霊においてはあなたがたと一緒にいて、あなたがたの秩序正しい様子とキリストに対するあなたがたの強固な信仰とを見て、喜んでいる。
２-６ As therefore ye received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, このように、あなたがたは主キリスト・イエスを受けいれたのだから、彼にあって歩きなさい。
２-７ rooted and builded up in him, and established in your faith, even as ye were taught, abounding in thanksgiving. また、彼に根ざし、彼にあって建てられ、そして教えられたように、信仰が確立されて、あふれるばかり感謝しなさい。
２-８ Take heed lest there shall be any one that maketh spoil of you through his philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ: あなたがたは、むなしいだましごとの哲学で、人のとりこにされないように、気をつけなさい。それはキリストに従わず、世のもろもろの霊力に従う人間の言伝えに基くものにすぎない。
２-９ for in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily, キリストにこそ、満ちみちているいっさいの神の徳が、かたちをとって宿っており、
２-１０ and in him ye are made full, who is the head of all principality and power: そしてあなたがたは、キリストにあって、それに満たされているのである。彼はすべての支配と権威とのかしらであり、
２-１１ in whom ye were also circumcised with a circumcision not made with hands, in the putting off of the body of the flesh, in the circumcision of Christ; あなたがたはまた、彼にあって、手によらない割礼、すなわち、キリストの割礼を受けて、肉のからだを脱ぎ捨てたのである。
２-１２ having been buried with him in baptism, wherein ye were also raised with him through faith in the working of God, who raised him from the dead. あなたがたはバプテスマを受けて彼と共に葬られ、同時に、彼を死人の中からよみがえらせた神の力を信じる信仰によって、彼と共によみがえらされたのである。
２-１３ And you, being dead through your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, you, I say, did he make alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses; あなたがたは、先には罪の中にあり、かつ肉の割礼がないままで死んでいた者であるが、神は、あなたがたをキリストと共に生かし、わたしたちのいっさいの罪をゆるして下さった。
２-１４ having blotted out the bond written in ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us: and he hath taken it out of the way, nailing it to the cross; 神は、わたしたちを責めて不利におとしいれる証書を、その規定もろともぬり消し、これを取り除いて、十字架につけてしまわれた。
２-１５ having despoiled the principalities and the powers, he made a show of them openly, triumphing over them in it. そして、もろもろの支配と権威との武装を解除し、キリストにあって凱旋し、彼らをその行列に加えて、さらしものとされたのである。
２-１６ Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of a feast day or a new moon or a sabbath day: だから、あなたがたは、食物と飲み物とにつき、あるいは祭や新月や安息日などについて、だれにも批評されてはならない。
２-１７ which are a shadow of the things to come; but the body is Christ’s. これらは、きたるべきものの影であって、その本体はキリストにある。
２-１８ Let no man rob you of your prize by a voluntary humility and worshipping of the angels, dwelling in the things which he hath seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind, あなたがたは、わざとらしい謙そんと天使礼拝とにおぼれている人々から、いろいろと悪評されてはならない。彼らは幻を見たことを重んじ、肉の思いによっていたずらに誇るだけで、
２-１９ and not holding fast the Head, from whom all the body, being supplied and knit together through the joints and bands, increasing with the increase of God. キリストなるかしらに、しっかりと着くことをしない。このかしらから出て、からだ全体は、節と節、筋と筋とによって強められ結び合わされ、神に育てられて成長していくのである。
２-２０ If ye died with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, do ye subject yourselves to ordinances, もしあなたがたが、キリストと共に死んで世のもろもろの霊力から離れたのなら、なぜ、なおこの世に生きているもののように、
２-２１ Handle not, nor taste, nor touch 「さわるな、味わうな、触れるな」などという規定に縛られているのか。
２-２２ (all which things are to perish with the using), after the precepts and doctrines of men? これらは皆、使えば尽きてしまうもの、人間の規定や教によっているものである。
２-２３ Which things have indeed a show of wisdom in will-worship, and humility, and severity to the body; but are not of any value against the indulgence of the flesh. これらのことは、ひとりよがりの礼拝とわざとらしい謙そんと、からだの苦行とをともなうので、知恵のあるしわざらしく見えるが、実は、ほしいままな肉欲を防ぐのに、なんの役にも立つものではない。
