If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am become sounding brass, or a clanging cymbal. |
たといわたしが、人々の言葉や御使たちの言葉を語っても、もし愛がなければ、わたしは、やかましい鐘や騒がしい鐃鉢と同じである。 |

And if I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. |
たといまた、わたしに預言をする力があり、あらゆる奥義とあらゆる知識とに通じていても、また、山を移すほどの強い信仰があっても、もし愛がなければ、わたしは無に等しい。 |

And if I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and if I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profiteth me nothing. |
たといまた、わたしが自分の全財産を人に施しても、また、自分のからだを焼かれるために渡しても、もし愛がなければ、いっさいは無益である。 |

Love suffereth long, and is kind; love envieth not; love vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, |
愛は寛容であり、愛は情深い。また、ねたむことをしない。愛は高ぶらない、誇らない、 |

doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not its own, is not provoked, taketh not account of evil; |
不作法をしない、自分の利益を求めない、いらだたない、恨みをいだかない。 |

rejoiceth not in unrighteousness, but rejoiceth with the truth; |
不義を喜ばないで真理を喜ぶ。 |

beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. |
そして、すべてを忍び、すべてを信じ、すべてを望み、すべてを耐える。 |
| １３-８ |
Love never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall be done away; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall be done away. |
愛はいつまでも絶えることがない。しかし、預言はすたれ、異言はやみ、知識はすたれるであろう。 |

For we know in part, and we prophesy in part; |
なぜなら、わたしたちの知るところは一部分であり、預言するところも一部分にすぎない。 |

but when that which is perfect is come, that which is in part shall be done away. |
全きものが来る時には、部分的なものはすたれる。 |

When I was a child, I spake as a child, I felt as a child, I thought as a child: now that I am become a man, I have put away childish things. |
わたしたちが幼な子であった時には、幼な子らしく語り、幼な子らしく感じ、また、幼な子らしく考えていた。しかし、おとなとなった今は、幼な子らしいことを捨ててしまった。 |

For now we see in a mirror, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know fully even as also I was fully known. |
わたしたちは、今は、鏡に映して見るようにおぼろげに見ている。しかしその時には、顔と顔とを合わせて、見るであろう。わたしの知るところは、今は一部分にすぎない。しかしその時には、わたしが完全に知られているように、完全に知るであろう。 |

But now abideth faith, hope, love, these three; and the greatest of these is love. |
このように、いつまでも存続するものは、信仰と希望と愛と、この三つである。このうちで最も大いなるものは、愛である。 |
