８-１ Moreover, brethren, we make known to you the grace of God which hath been given in the churches of Macedonia; 兄弟たちよ。わたしたちはここで、マケドニヤの諸教会に与えられた神の恵みを、あなたがたに知らせよう。
８-２ how that in much proof of affliction the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded unto the riches of their liberality. すなわち、彼らは、患難のために激しい試錬をうけたが、その満ちあふれる喜びは、極度の貧しさにもかかわらず、あふれ出て惜しみなく施す富となったのである。
８-３ For according to their power, I bear witness, yea and beyond their power, they gave of their own accord, わたしはあかしするが、彼らは力に応じて、否、力以上に施しをした。すなわち、自ら進んで、
８-４ beseeching us with much entreaty in regard of this grace and the fellowship in the ministering to the saints: 聖徒たちへの奉仕に加わる恵みにあずかりたいと、わたしたちに熱心に願い出て、
８-５ and this, not as we had hoped, but first they gave their own selves to the Lord, and to us through the will of God. わたしたちの希望どおりにしたばかりか、自分自身をまず、神のみこころにしたがって、主にささげ、また、わたしたちにもささげたのである。
８-６ Insomuch that we exhorted Titus, that as he made a beginning before, so he would also complete in you this grace also. そこで、この募金をテトスがあなたがたの所で、すでに始めた以上、またそれを完成するようにと、わたしたちは彼に勧めたのである。
８-７ But as ye abound in everything, in faith, and utterance, and knowledge, and in all earnestness, and in your love to us, see that ye abound in this grace also. さて、あなたがたがあらゆる事がらについて富んでいるように、すなわち、信仰にも言葉にも知識にも、あらゆる熱情にも、また、あなたがたに対するわたしたちの愛にも富んでいるように、この恵みのわざにも富んでほしい。
８-８ I speak not by way of commandment, but as proving through the earnestness of others the sincerity also of your love. こう言っても、わたしは命令するのではない。ただ、他の人たちの熱情によって、あなたがたの愛の純真さをためそうとするのである。
８-９ For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might become rich. あなたがたは、わたしたちの主イエス・キリストの恵みを知っている。すなわち、主は富んでおられたのに、あなたがたのために貧しくなられた。それは、あなたがたが、彼の貧しさによって富む者になるためである。
８-１０ And herein I give my judgment: for this is expedient for you, who were the first to make a beginning a year ago, not only to do, but also to will. そこで、わたしは、この恵みのわざについて意見を述べよう。それがあなたがたの益になるからである。あなたがたはこの事を、昨年以来、他に先んじて実行したばかりではなく、それを願っていた。
８-１１ But now complete the doing also; that as there was the readiness to will, so there may be the completion also out of your ability. だから今、それをやりとげなさい。あなたがたが心から願っているように、持っているところに応じて、それをやりとげなさい。
８-１２ For if the readiness is there, it is acceptable according as a man hath, not according as he hath not. もし心から願ってそうするなら、持たないところによらず、持っているところによって、神に受けいれられるのである。
８-１３ For I say not this that others may be eased and ye distressed; それは、ほかの人々に楽をさせて、あなたがたに苦労をさせようとするのではなく、持ち物を等しくするためである。
８-１４ but by equality: your abundance being a supply at this present time for their want, that their abundance also may become a supply for your want; that there may be equality: すなわち、今の場合は、あなたがたの余裕があの人たちの欠乏を補い、後には、彼らの余裕があなたがたの欠乏を補い、こうして等しくなるようにするのである。
８-１５ as it is written, He that gathered much had nothing over; and he that gathered little had no lack. それは「多く得た者も余ることがなく、少ししか得なかった者も足りないことはなかった」と書いてあるとおりである。
８-１６ But thanks be to God, who putteth the same earnest care for you into the heart of Titus. わたしがあなたがたに対して持っている同じ熱情を、テトスの心にも与えて下さった神に感謝する。
８-１７ For he accepted indeed our exhortation; but being himself very earnest, he went forth unto you of his own accord. 彼はわたしの勧めを受けいれ、そして更に熱心になって、自分から進んであなたがたのところに行った。
８-１８ And we have sent together with him the brother whose praise in the gospel is spread through all the churches; わたしたちはまた、テトスと一緒に、ひとりの兄弟を送る。この兄弟が福音宣伝の上で得たほまれは、すべての教会に聞えているが、
８-１９ and not only so, but who was also appointed by the churches to travel with us in the matter of this grace, which is ministered by us to the glory of the Lord, and to show our readiness: そのうえ、彼は、主ご自身の栄光があらわれるため、また、わたしたちの好意を示すために、骨を折って贈り物を集めているわたしたちの同伴者として、諸教会から選ばれたのである。
８-２０ Avoiding this, that any man should blame us in the matter of this bounty which is ministered by us: そうしたのは、わたしたちが集めているこの寄附金のことについて、人にかれこれ言われるのを避けるためである。
８-２１ for we take thought for things honorable, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men. わたしたちは、主のみまえばかりではなく、人の前でも公正であるように、気を配っているのである。
８-２２ and we have sent with them our brother, whom we have many times proved earnest in many things, but now much more earnest, by reason of the great confidence which he hath in you. また、もうひとりの兄弟を彼らと一緒に送る。わたしたちは、多くの事について彼が熱心であったことを、たびたび認めた。彼は今、あなたがたを非常に信頼して、ますます熱心になっている。
８-２３ Whether any inquire about Titus, he is my partner and my fellow-worker to you-ward, or our brethren, they are the messengers of the churches, they are the glory of Christ. テトスについて言えば、彼はわたしの仲間であり、あなたがたに対するわたしの協力者である。この兄弟たちについて言えば、彼らは諸教会の使者、キリストの栄光である。
８-２４ Show ye therefore unto them in the face of the churches the proof of your love, and of our glorying on your behalf. だから、あなたがたの愛と、また、あなたがたについてわたしたちがいだいている誇とが、真実であることを、諸教会の前で彼らにあかししていただきたい。
