Come now, ye rich, weep and howl for your miseries that are coming upon
you. |
富んでいる人たちよ。よく聞きなさい。あなたがたは、自分の身に降りかかろうとしているわざわいを思って、泣き叫ぶがよい。 |

Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are moth-eaten. |
あなたがたの富は朽ち果て、着物はむしばまれ、 |
| ５-３ |
Your gold and your silver are rusted; and their rust shall be for a testimony
against you, and shall eat your flesh as fire. Ye have laid up your treasure
in the last days. |
金銀はさびている。そして、そのさびの毒は、あなたがたの罪を責め、あなたがたの肉を火のように食いつくすであろう。あなたがたは、終りの時にいるのに、なお宝をたくわえている。 |

Behold, the hire of the laborers who mowed your fields, which is of you
kept back by fraud, crieth out: and the cries of them that reaped have
entered into the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth. |
見よ、あなたがたが労働者たちに畑の刈入れをさせながら、支払わずにいる賃銀が、叫んでいる。そして、刈入れをした人たちの叫び声が、すでに万軍の主の耳に達している。 |

Ye have lived delicately on the earth, and taken your pleasure; ye have
nourished your hearts in a day of slaughter. |
あなたがたは、地上でおごり暮し、快楽にふけり、「ほふらるる日」のために、おのが心を肥やしている。 |

Ye have condemned, ye have killed the righteous one; he doth not resist
you. |
そして、義人を罪に定め、これを殺した。しかも彼は、あなたがたに抵抗しない。 |

Be patient therefore, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. Behold, the
husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient over
it, until it receive the early and latter rain. |
だから、兄弟たちよ。主の来臨の時まで耐え忍びなさい。見よ、農夫は、地の尊い実りを、前の雨と後の雨とがあるまで、耐え忍んで待っている。 |

Be ye also patient; establish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord is
at hand. |
あなたがたも、主の来臨が近づいているから、耐え忍びなさい。心を強くしていなさい。 |
| ５-９ |
Murmur not, brethren, one against another, that ye be not judged: behold,
the judge standeth before the doors. |
兄弟たちよ。互に不平を言い合ってはならない。さばきを受けるかも知れないから。見よ、さばき主が、すでに戸口に立っておられる。 |
| ５-１０ |
Take, brethren, for an example of suffering and of patience, the prophets
who spake in the name of the Lord. |
兄弟たちよ。苦しみを耐え忍ぶことについては、主の御名によって語った預言者たちを模範にするがよい。 |
| ５-１１ |
Behold, we call them blessed that endured: ye have heard of the patience
of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord, how that the Lord is full of
pity, and merciful. |
忍び抜いた人たちはさいわいであると、わたしたちは思う。あなたがたは、ヨブの忍耐のことを聞いている。また、主が彼になさったことの結末を見て、主がいかに慈愛とあわれみとに富んだかたであるかが、わかるはずである。 |

But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by the heaven, nor
by the earth, nor by any other oath: but let your yea be yea, and your
nay, nay; that ye fall not under judgment. |
さて、わたしの兄弟たちよ。何はともあれ、誓いをしてはならない。天をさしても、地をさしても、あるいは、そのほかのどんな誓いによっても、いっさい誓ってはならない。むしろ、「しかり」を「しかり」とし、「否」を「否」としなさい。そうしないと、あなたがたは、さばきを受けることになる。 |

Is any among you suffering? Let him pray. Is any cheerful? Let him sing
praise. |
あなたがたの中に、苦しんでいる者があるか。その人は、祈るがよい。喜んでいる者があるか。その人は、さんびするがよい。 |
| ５-１４ |
Is any among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church; and let
them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: |
あなたがたの中に、病んでいる者があるか。その人は、教会の長老たちを招き、主の御名によって、オリブ油を注いで祈ってもらうがよい。 |

and the prayer of faith shall save him that is sick, and the Lord shall
raise him up; and if he have committed sins, it shall be forgiven him. |
信仰による祈は、病んでいる人を救い、そして、主はその人を立ちあがらせて下さる。かつ、その人が罪を犯していたなら、それもゆるされる。 |
| ５-１６ |
Confess therefore your sins one to another, and pray one for another, that
ye may be healed. The supplication of a righteous man availeth much in
its working. |
だから、互に罪を告白し合い、また、いやされるようにお互のために祈りなさい。義人の祈は、大いに力があり、効果のあるものである。 |
| ５-１７ |
Elijah was a man of like passions with us, and he prayed fervently that
it might not rain; and it rained not on the earth for three years and six
months. |
エリヤは、わたしたちと同じ人間であったが、雨が降らないようにと祈をささげたところ、三年六か月のあいだ、地上に雨が降らなかった。 |

And he prayed again; and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth
her fruit. |
それから、ふたたび祈ったところ、天は雨を降らせ、地はその実をみのらせた。 |
| ５-１９ |
My brethren, if any among you err from the truth, and one convert him; |
わたしの兄弟たちよ。あなたがたのうち、真理の道から踏み迷う者があり、だれかが彼を引きもどすなら、 |
| ５-２０ |
let him know, that he who converteth a sinner from the error of his way
shall save a soul from death, and shall cover a multitude of sins. |
かように罪人を迷いの道から引きもどす人は、そのたましいを死から救い出し、かつ、多くの罪をおおうものであることを、知るべきである。 |
