14-1 But him that is weak in faith receive ye, yet not for decision of scruples. 信仰の弱い者を受けいれなさい。ただ、意見を批評するためであってはならない。
14-2 One man hath faith to eat all things: but he that is weak eateth herbs. ある人は、何を食べてもさしつかえないと信じているが、弱い人は野菜だけを食べる。
14-3 Let not him that eateth set at nought him that eateth not; and let not him that eateth not judge him that eateth: for God hath received him. 食べる者は食べない者を軽んじてはならず、食べない者も食べる者をさばいてはならない。神は彼を受けいれて下さったのであるから。
14-4 Who art thou that judgest the servant of another? to his own lord he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be made to stand; for the Lord hath power to make him stand. 他人の僕をさばくあなたは、いったい、何者であるか。彼が立つのも倒れるのも、その主人によるのである。しかし、彼は立つようになる。主は彼を立たせることができるからである。
14-5 One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let each man be fully assured in his own mind. また、ある人は、この日がかの日よりも大事であると考え、ほかの人はどの日も同じだと考える。各自はそれぞれ心の中で、確信を持っておるべきである。
14-6 He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord: and he that eateth, eateth unto the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, unto the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks. 日を重んじる者は、主のために重んじる。また食べる者も主のために食べる。神に感謝して食べるからである。食べない者も主のために食べない。そして、神に感謝する。
14-7 For none of us liveth to himself, and none dieth to himself. すなわち、わたしたちのうち、だれひとり自分のために生きる者はなく、だれひとり自分のために死ぬ者はない。
14-8 For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; or whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord’s. わたしたちは、生きるのも主のために生き、死ぬのも主のために死ぬ。だから、生きるにしても死ぬにしても、わたしたちは主のものなのである。
14-9 For to this end Christ died and lived again, that he might be Lord of both the dead and the living. なぜなら、キリストは、死者と生者との主となるために、死んで生き返られたからである。
14-10 But thou, why dost thou judge thy brother? or thou again, why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment-seat of God. それだのに、あなたは、なぜ兄弟をさばくのか。あなたは、なぜ兄弟を軽んじるのか。わたしたちはみな、神のさばきの座の前に立つのである。
14-11 For it is written,As I live, saith the Lord, to me every knee shall bow,And every tongue shall confess to God. すなわち、「主が言われる。わたしは生きている。すべてのひざは、わたしに対してかがみ、すべての舌は、神にさんびをささげるであろう」と書いてある。
14-12 So then each one of us shall give account of himself to God. だから、わたしたちひとりびとりは、神に対して自分の言いひらきをすべきである。
14-13 Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge ye this rather, that no man put a stumblingblock in his brother’s way, or an occasion of falling. それゆえ、今後わたしたちは、互にさばき合うことをやめよう。むしろ、あなたがたは、妨げとなる物や、つまずきとなる物を兄弟の前に置かないことに、決めるがよい。
14-14 I know, and am persuaded in the Lord Jesus, that nothing is unclean of itself: save that to him who accounteth anything to be unclean, to him it is unclean. わたしは、主イエスにあって知りかつ確信している。それ自体、汚れているものは一つもない。ただ、それが汚れていると考える人にだけ、汚れているのである。
14-15 For if because of meat thy brother is grieved, thou walkest no longer in love. Destroy not with thy meat him for whom Christ died. もし食物のゆえに兄弟を苦しめるなら、あなたは、もはや愛によって歩いているのではない。あなたの食物によって、兄弟を滅ぼしてはならない。キリストは彼のためにも、死なれたのである。
14-16 Let not then your good be evil spoken of: それだから、あなたがたにとって良い事が、そしりの種にならぬようにしなさい。
14-17 for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. 神の国は飲食ではなく、義と、平和と、聖霊における喜びとである。
14-18 For he that herein serveth Christ is well-pleasing to God, and approved of men. こうしてキリストに仕える者は、神に喜ばれ、かつ、人にも受けいれられるのである。
14-19 So then let us follow after things which make for peace, and things whereby we may edify one another. こういうわけで、平和に役立つことや、互の徳を高めることを、追い求めようではないか。
14-20 Overthrow not for meat’s sake the work of God. All things indeed are clean; howbeit it is evil for that man who eateth with offence. 食物のことで、神のみわざを破壊してはならない。すべての物はきよい。ただ、それを食べて人をつまずかせる者には、悪となる。
14-21 It is good not to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor to do anything whereby thy brother stumbleth. 肉を食わず、酒を飲まず、そのほか兄弟をつまずかせないのは、良いことである。
14-22 The faith which thou hast, have thou to thyself before God. Happy is he that judgeth not himself in that which he approveth. あなたの持っている信仰を、神のみまえに、自分自身に持っていなさい。自ら良いと定めたことについて、やましいと思わない人は、さいわいである。
14-23 But he that doubteth is condemned if he eat, because he eateth not of faith; and whatsoever is not of faith is sin. しかし、疑いながら食べる者は、信仰によらないから、罪に定められる。すべて信仰によらないことは、罪である。
