6-1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? では、わたしたちは、なんと言おうか。恵みが増し加わるために、罪にとどまるべきであろうか。
6-2 God forbid. We who died to sin, how shall we any longer live therein? 断じてそうではない。罪に対して死んだわたしたちが、どうして、なお、その中に生きておれるだろうか。
6-3 Or are ye ignorant that all we who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? それとも、あなたがたは知らないのか。キリスト・イエスにあずかるバプテスマを受けたわたしたちは、彼の死にあずかるバプテスマを受けたのである。
6-4 We were buried therefore with him through baptism unto death: that like as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we also might walk in newness of life. すなわち、わたしたちは、その死にあずかるバプテスマによって、彼と共に葬られたのである。それは、キリストが父の栄光によって、死人の中からよみがえらされたように、わたしたちもまた、新しいいのちに生きるためである。
6-5 For if we have become united with him in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection; もしわたしたちが、彼に結びついてその死の様にひとしくなるなら、さらに、彼の復活の様にもひとしくなるであろう。
6-6 knowing this, that our old man was crucified with him, that the body of sin might be done away, that so we should no longer be in bondage to sin; わたしたちは、この事を知っている。わたしたちの内の古き人はキリストと共に十字架につけられた。それは、この罪のからだが滅び、わたしたちがもはや、罪の奴隷となることがないためである。
6-7 for he that hath died is justified from sin. それは、すでに死んだ者は、罪から解放されているからである。
6-8 But if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him; もしわたしたちが、キリストと共に死んだなら、また彼と共に生きることを信じる。
6-9 knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death no more hath dominion over him. キリストは死人の中からよみがえらされて、もはや死ぬことがなく、死はもはや彼を支配しないことを、知っているからである。
6-10 For the death that he died, he died unto sin once: but the life that he liveth, he liveth unto God. なぜなら、キリストが死んだのは、ただ一度罪に対して死んだのであり、キリストが生きるのは、神に生きるのだからである。
6-11 Even so reckon ye also yourselves to be dead unto sin, but alive unto God in Christ Jesus. このように、あなたがた自身も、罪に対して死んだ者であり、キリスト・イエスにあって神に生きている者であることを、認むべきである。
6-12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey the lusts thereof: だから、あなたがたの死ぬべきからだを罪の支配にゆだねて、その情欲に従わせることをせず、
6-13 neither present your members unto sin as instruments of unrighteousness; but present yourselves unto God, as alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. また、あなたがたの肢体を不義の武器として罪にささげてはならない。むしろ、死人の中から生かされた者として、自分自身を神にささげ、自分の肢体を義の武器として神にささげるがよい。
6-14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under law, but under grace. なぜなら、あなたがたは律法の下にあるのではなく、恵みの下にあるので、罪に支配されることはないからである。
6-15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under law, but under grace? God forbid. それでは、どうなのか。律法の下にではなく、恵みの下にあるからといって、わたしたちは罪を犯すべきであろうか。断じてそうではない。
6-16 Know ye not, that to whom ye present yourselves as servants unto obedience, his servants ye are whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? あなたがたは知らないのか。あなたがた自身が、だれかの僕になって服従するなら、あなたがたは自分の服従するその者の僕であって、死に至る罪の僕ともなり、あるいは、義にいたる従順の僕ともなるのである。
6-17 But thanks be to God, that, whereas ye were servants of sin, ye became obedient from the heart to that form of teaching whereunto ye were delivered; しかし、神は感謝すべきかな。あなたがたは罪の僕であったが、伝えられた教の基準に心から服従して、
6-18 and being made free from sin, ye became servants of righteousness. 罪から解放され、義の僕となった。
6-19 I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye presented your members as servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity, even so now present your members as servants to righteousness unto sanctification. わたしは人間的な言い方をするが、それは、あなたがたの肉の弱さのゆえである。あなたがたは、かつて自分の肢体を汚れと不法との僕としてささげて不法に陥ったように、今や自分の肢体を義の僕としてささげて、きよくならねばならない。
6-20 For when ye were servants of sin, ye were free in regard of righteousness. あなたがたが罪の僕であった時は、義とは縁のない者であった。
6-21 What fruit then had ye at that time in the things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death. その時あなたがたは、どんな実を結んだのか。それは、今では恥とするようなものであった。それらのものの終極は、死である。
6-22 But now being made free from sin and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto sanctification, and the end eternal life. しかし今や、あなたがたは罪から解放されて神に仕え、きよきに至る実を結んでいる。その終極は永遠のいのちである。
6-23 For the wages of sin is death; but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. 罪の支払う報酬は死である。しかし神の賜物は、わたしたちの主キリスト・イエスにおける永遠のいのちである。
