11-1 Then all Israel gathered themselves to David unto Hebron, saying, Behold, we are thy bone and thy flesh. ここにイスラエルの人は皆ヘブロンにいるダビデのもとに集まって来て言った、「われわれは、あなたの骨肉です。
11-2 In times past, even when Saul was king, it was thou that leddest out and broughtest in Israel: and Jehovah thy God said unto thee, Thou shalt be shepherd of my people Israel, and thou shalt be prince over my people Israel. 先にサウルが王であった時にも、あなたはイスラエルを率いて出入りされました。そしてあなたの神、主はあなたに『あなたはわが民イスラエルを牧する者となり、わが民イスラエルの君となるであろう』と言われました」。
11-3 So all the elders of Israel came to the king to Hebron; and David made a covenant with them in Hebron before Jehovah; and they anointed David king over Israel, according to the word of Jehovah by Samuel. このようにイスラエルの長老が皆ヘブロンにいる王のもとに来たので、ダビデはヘブロンで主の前に彼らと契約を結んだ。そして彼らは、サムエルによって語られた主の言葉に従ってダビデに油を注ぎ、イスラエルの王とした。
11-4 And David and all Israel went to Jerusalem (the same is Jebus); and the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land, were there. ダビデとすべてのイスラエルはエルサレムへ行った。エルサレムはすなわちエブスであって、そこにはその地の住民であるエブスびとがいた。
11-5 And the inhabitants of Jebus said to David, Thou shalt not come in hither. Nevertheless David took the stronghold of Zion; the same is the city of David. エブスの住民はダビデに言った、「あなたはここにはいってはならない」。しかし、ダビデはシオンの要害を取った。これがすなわちダビデの町である。
11-6 And David said, Whosoever smiteth the Jebusites first shall be chief and captain. And Joab the son of Zeruiah went up first, and was made chief この時ダビデは言った、「だれでも第一にエブスびとを撃つ者を、かしらとし、将とする」。ゼルヤの子ヨアブが第一にのぼっていったので、かしらとなった。
11-7 And David dwelt in the stronghold; therefore they called it the city of David. そしてダビデがその要害に住んだので人々はこれをダビデの町と名づけた。
11-8 And he built the city round about, from Millo even round about; and Joab repaired the rest of the city. ダビデはまたその町の周囲すなわちミロから四方に石がきを築き、ヨアブは町のほかの部分を繕った。
11-9 And David waxed greater and greater; for Jehovah of hosts was with him. こうしてダビデはますます大いなる者となった。万軍の主が彼とともにおられたからである。
11-10 Now these are the chief of the mighty men whom David had, who showed themselves strong with him in his kingdom, together with all Israel, to make him king, according to the word of Jehovah concerning Israel. ダビデの勇士のおもなものは次のとおりである。彼らはイスラエルのすべての人とともにダビデに力をそえて国を得させ、主がイスラエルについて言われた言葉にしたがって、彼を王とした人々である。
11-11 And this is the number of the mighty men whom David had: Jashobeam, the son of a Hachmonite, the chief of the thirty; he lifted up his spear against three hundred and slew them at one time. ダビデの勇士の数は次のとおりである。すなわち三人の長であるハクモニびとの子ヤショベアム、彼はやりをふるって三百人に向かい、一度にこれを殺した者である。
11-12 And after him was Eleazar the son of Dodo, the Ahohite, who was one of the three mighty men. 彼の次はアホアびとドドの子エレアザルで、三勇士のひとりである。
11-13 He was with David at Pasdammim, and there the Philistines were gathered together to battle, where was a plot of ground full of barley; and the people fled from before the Philistines. 彼はダビデとともにパスダミムにいたが、ペリシテびとがそこに集まって来て戦った。そこに一面に大麦のはえた地所があった。民はペリシテびとの前から逃げた。
11-14 And they stood in the midst of the plot, and defended it, and slew the Philistines; and Jehovah saved them by a great victory. しかし彼は地所の中に立ってこれを防ぎ、ペリシテびとを殺した。そして主は大いなる勝利を与えて彼らを救われた。
11-15 And three of the thirty chief men went down to the rock to David, into the cave of Adullam; and the host of the Philistines were encamped in the valley of Rephaim. 三十人の長たちのうちの三人は下っていってアドラムのほらあなの岩の所にいるダビデのもとへ行った。時にペリシテびとの軍勢はレパイムの谷に陣を取っていた。
11-16 And David was then in the stronghold, and the garrison of the Philistines was then in Beth-lehem. その時ダビデは要害におり、ペリシテびとの先陣はベツレヘムにあったが、
11-17 And David longed, and said, Oh that one would give me water to drink of the well of Beth-lehem, which is by the gate! ダビデはせつに望んで、「だれかベツレヘムの門のかたわらにある井戸の水をわたしに飲ませてくれるとよいのだが」と言った。
11-18 And the three brake through the host of the Philistines, and drew water out of the well of Beth-lehem, that was by the gate, and took it, and brought it to David: but David would not drink thereof, but poured it out unto Jehovah, そこでその三人はペリシテびとの陣を突き通って、ベツレヘムの門のかたわらにある井戸の水をくみ取って、ダビデのもとに携えて来た。しかしダビデはそれを飲もうとはせず、それを主の前に注いで、
11-19 and said, My God forbid it me, that I should do this: shall I drink the blood of these men that have put their lives in jeopardy? for with the jeopardy of their lives they brought it. Therefore he would not drink it. These things did the three mighty men. 言った、「わが神よ、わたしは断じてこれをいたしません。命をかけて行ったこの人たちの血をどうしてわたしは飲むことができましょう。彼らは命をかけてこの水をとって来たのです」。それゆえ、ダビデはこの水を飲もうとはしなかった。三勇士はこのことをおこなった。
11-20 And Abishai, the brother of Joab, he was chief of the three; for he lifted up his spear against three hundred and slew them, and had a name among the three. ヨアブの兄弟アビシャイは三十人の長であった。彼はやりをふるって三百人に立ち向かい、これを殺して三人のほかに名を得た。
11-21 Of the three, he was more honorable than the two, and was made their captain: howbeit he attained not to the first three. 彼は三十人のうち、最も尊ばれた者で、彼らのかしらとなった。しかし、かの三人には及ばなかった。
11-22 Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, the son of a valiant man of Kabzeel, who had done mighty deeds, he slew the two sons of Ariel of Moab: he went down also and slew a lion in the midst of a pit in time of snow. エホヤダの子ベナヤは、カブジエル出身の勇士であって、多くのてがらを立てた。彼はモアブのアリエルのふたりの子を撃ち殺した。彼はまた雪の日に下っていって、穴の中でししを撃ち殺した。
11-23 And he slew an Egyptian, a man of great stature, five cubits high; and in the Egyptian’s hand was a spear like a weaver’s beam; and he went down to him with a staff, and plucked the spear out of the Egyptian’s hand, and slew him with his own spear. 彼はまた身のたけ五キュビトばかりのエジプトびとを撃ち殺した。そのエジプトびとは手に機の巻棒ほどのやりを持っていたが、ベナヤはつえをとって彼の所へ下って行き、エジプトびとの手から、やりをもぎとり、そのやりをもって彼を殺した。
11-24 These things did Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and had a name among the three mighty men. エホヤダの子ベナヤは、これらの事を行って三勇士のほかに名を得た。
11-25 Behold, he was more honorable than the thirty, but he attained not to the first three: and David set him over his guard. 彼は三十人のうちに有名であったが、かの三人には及ばなかった。ダビデは彼を侍衛の長とした。
11-26 Also the mighty men of the armies: Asahel the brother of Joab, Elhanan the son of Dodo of Beth-lehem, 軍団のうちの勇士はヨアブの兄弟アサヘル。ベツレヘム出身のドドの子エルハナン。
11-27 Shammoth the Harorite, Helez the Pelonite, ハロデ出身のシャンマ。ペロンびとヘレヅ。
11-28 Ira the son of Ikkesh the Tekoite, Abiezer the Anathothite, テコア出身のイッケシの子イラ。アナトテ出身のアビエゼル。
11-29 Sibbecai the Hushathite, Ilai the Ahohite, ホシャテびとシベカイ。アホアびとイライ。
11-30 Maharai the Netophathite, Heled the son of Baanah the Netophathite, ネトパ出身のマハライ。ネトパ出身のバアナの子ヘレデ。
11-31 Ithai the son of Ribai of Gibeah of the children of Benjamin, Benaiah the Pirathonite, ベニヤミンびとのギベアから出たリバイの子イタイ。ピラトンのベナヤ。
11-32 Hurai of the brooks of Gaash, Abiel the Arbathite, ガアシの谷のホライ。アルバテびとアビエル。
11-33 Azmaveth the Baharumite, Eliahba the Shaalbonite, バハルム出身のアズマウテ。シャルボン出身のエリヤバ。
11-34 the sons of Hashem the Gizonite, Jonathan the son of Shagee the Hararite, ギゾンびとハセム。ハラルびとシャゲの子ヨナタン。
11-35 Ahiam the son of Sacar the Hararite, Eliphal the son of Ur, ハラルびとサカルの子アヒアム。ウルの子エリパル。
11-36 Hepher the Mecherathite, Ahijah the Pelonite, メケラテびとヘペル。ペロンびとアヒヤ。
11-37 Hezro the Carmelite, Naarai the son of Ezbai, カルメル出身のヘズロ。エズバイの子ナアライ。
11-38 Joel the brother of Nathan, Mibhar the son of Hagri, ナタンの兄弟ヨエル。ハグリの子ミブハル。
11-39 Zelek the Ammonite, Naharai the Berothite, the armorbearer of Joab the son of Zeruiah, アンモンびとゼレク。ゼルヤの子ヨアブの武器を執るもの、ベエロテ出身のナハライ。
11-40 Ira the Ithrite, Gareb the Ithrite, イテルびとイラ。イテルびとガレブ。
11-41 Uriah the Hittite, Zabad the son of Ahlai, ヘテびとウリヤ。アハライの子ザバデ。
11-42 Adina the son of Shiza the Reubenite, a chief of the Reubenites, and thirty with him, ルベンびとシザの子アデナ。彼はルベンびとの長であって、三十人を率いた。
11-43 Hanan the son of Maacah, and Joshaphat the Mithnite, またマアカの子ハナン。ミテニびとヨシャパテ。
11-44 Uzzia the Ashterathite, Shama and Jeiel the sons of Hotham the Aroerite, アシテラテびとウジヤ。アロエルびとホタムの子らシャマとエイエル。
11-45 Jediael the son of Shimri, and Joha his brother, the Tizite, テジびとシムリの子エデアエルおよびその兄弟ヨハ。
11-46 Eliel the Mahavite, and Jeribai, and Joshaviah, the sons of Elnaam, and Ithmah the Moabite, マハブびとエリエル。エルナアムの子らエリバイおよびヨシャビヤ。モアブびとイテマ。
11-47 Eliel, and Obed, and Jaasiel the Mezobaite. エリエル、オベデおよびメゾバびとヤシエルである。
