| 14-1 |
So Abijah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David; and Asa his son reigned in his stead. In his days the land was quiet ten years. |
アビヤはその先祖たちと共に眠って、ダビデの町に葬られ、その子アサが代って王となった。アサの治世に国は十年の間、穏やかであった。 |
| 14-2 |
And Asa did that which was good and right in the eyes of Jehovah his God: |
アサはその神、主の目に良しと見え、また正しと見えることを行った。 |
| 14-3 |
for he took away the foreign altars, and the high places, and brake down the pillars, and hewed down the Asherim, |
彼は異なる祭壇と、もろもろの高き所を取り除き、石柱をこわし、アシラ像を切り倒し、 |
| 14-4 |
and commanded Judah to seek Jehovah, the God of their fathers, and to do the law and the commandment. |
ユダに命じてその先祖たちの神、主を求めさせ、おきてと戒めとを行わせ、 |
| 14-5 |
Also he took away out of all the cities of Judah the high places and the sun-images: and the kingdom was quiet before him. |
ユダのすべての町々から、高き所と香の祭壇とを取り除いた。そして国は彼のもとに穏やかであった。 |
| 14-6 |
And he built fortified cities in Judah; for the land was quiet, and he had no war in those years, because Jehovah had given him rest. |
彼は国が穏やかであったので、要害の町数個をユダに建てた。また主が彼に平安を賜わったので、この年ごろ戦争がなかった。 |
| 14-7 |
For he said unto Judah, Let us build these cities, and make about them walls, and towers, gates, and bars; the land is yet before us, because we have sought Jehovah our God; we have sought him, and he hath given us rest on every side. So they built and prospered. |
彼はユダに言った、「われわれはこれらの町を建て、その周囲に石がきを築き、やぐらを建て、門と貫の木を設けよう。われわれがわれわれの神、主を求めたので、この国はなおわれわれのものであり、われわれが彼を求めたので、四方において、われわれに平安を賜わった」。こうして彼らは滞りなく建て終った。 |

And Asa had an army that bare bucklers and spears, out of Judah three hundred thousand; and out of Benjamin, that bare shields and drew bows, two hundred and fourscore thousand: all these were mighty men of valor. |
アサの軍隊はユダから出た者三十万人あって、盾とやりをとり、ベニヤミンから出た者二十八万人あって、小盾をとり、弓を引いた。これはみな大勇士であった。 |

And there came out against them Zerah the Ethiopian with an army of a thousand thousand, and three hundred chariots; and he came unto Mareshah. |
エチオピヤびとゼラが、百万の軍隊と三百の戦車を率いて、マレシャまで攻めてきた。 |
| 14-10 |
Then Asa went out to meet him, and they set the battle in array in the valley of Zephathah at Mareshah. |
アサは出て、これを迎え、マレシャのゼパタの谷に戦いの備えをした。 |
| 14-11 |
And Asa cried unto Jehovah his God, and said, Jehovah, there is none besides thee to help, between the mighty and him that hath no strength: help us, O Jehovah our God; for we rely on thee, and in thy name are we come against this multitude. O Jehovah, thou art our God; let not man prevail against thee. |
時にアサはその神、主に向かって呼ばわって言った、「主よ、力のある者を助けることも、力のない者を助けることも、あなたにおいては異なることはありません。われわれの神、主よ、われわれをお助けください。われわれはあなたに寄り頼み、あなたの名によってこの大軍に当ります。主よ、あなたはわれわれの神です。どうぞ人をあなたに勝たせないでください」。 |
| 14-12 |
So Jehovah smote the Ethiopians before Asa, and before Judah; and the Ethiopians fled. |
そこで主はアサの前とユダの前でエチオピヤびとを撃ち敗られたので、エチオピヤびとは逃げ去った。 |
| 14-13 |
And Asa and the people that were with him pursued them unto Gerar: and there fell of the Ethiopians so many that they could not recover themselves; for they were destroyed before Jehovah, and before his host; and they carried away very much booty. |
アサと彼に従う民は彼らをゲラルまで追撃したので、エチオピヤびとは倒れて、生き残った者はひとりもなかった。主と主の軍勢の前に撃ち破られたからである。ユダの人々の得たぶんどり物は非常に多かった。 |
| 14-14 |
And they smote all the cities round about Gerar; for the fear of Jehovah came upon them: and they despoiled all the cities; for there was much spoil in them. |
彼らはまた、ゲラルの周囲の町々をことごとく撃ち破った。主の恐れが彼らの上に臨んだからである。そして彼らはそのすべての町をかすめ奪った。その内に多くの物があったからである。 |
| 14-15 |
They smote also the tents of cattle, and carried away sheep in abundance, and camels, and returned to Jerusalem. |
また家畜をもっている者の天幕を襲い、多くの羊とらくだを奪い取って、エルサレムに帰った。 |
