| 20-1 |
And it came to pass after this, that the children of Moab, and the children of Ammon, and with them some of the Ammonites, came against Jehoshaphat to battle. |
この後モアブびと、アンモンびとおよびメウニびとらがヨシャパテと戦おうと攻めてきた。 |
| 20-2 |
Then there came some that told Jehoshaphat, saying, There cometh a great multitude against thee from beyond the sea from Syria; and, behold, they are in Hazazon-tamar (the same is En-gedi). |
その時ある人がきて、ヨシャパテに告げて言った、「海のかなたのエドムから大軍があなたに攻めて来ます。見よ、彼らはハザゾン・タマル（すなわちエンゲデ）にいます」。 |
| 20-3 |
And Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek unto Jehovah; and he proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah. |
そこでヨシャパテは恐れ、主に顔を向けて助けを求め、ユダ全国に断食をふれさせた。 |
| 20-4 |
And Judah gathered themselves together, to seek help of Jehovah: even out of all the cities of Judah they came to seek Jehovah. |
それでユダはこぞって集まり、主の助けを求めた。すなわちユダのすべての町から人々が来て主を求めた。 |
| 20-5 |
And Jehoshaphat stood in the assembly of Judah and Jerusalem, in the house of Jehovah, before the new court; |
そこでヨシャパテは主の宮の新しい庭の前で、ユダとエルサレムの会衆の中に立って、 |
| 20-6 |
and he said, O Jehovah, the God of our fathers, art not thou God in heaven? and art not thou ruler over all the kingdoms of the nations? and in thy hand is power and might, so that none is able to withstand thee. |
言った、「われわれの先祖の神、主よ、あなたは天にいます神ではありませんか。異邦人のすべての国を治められるではありませんか。あなたの手には力があり、勢いがあって、あなたに逆らいうる者はありません。 |
| 20-7 |
Didst not thou, O our God, drive out the inhabitants of this land before thy people Israel, and give it to the seed of Abraham thy friend for ever? |
われわれの神よ、あなたはこの国の民をあなたの民イスラエルの前から追い払って、あなたの友アブラハムの子孫に、これを永遠に与えられたではありませんか。 |
| 20-8 |
And they dwelt therein, and have built thee a sanctuary therein for thy name, saying, |
彼らはここに住み、あなたの名のためにここに聖所を建てて言いました、 |
| 20-9 |
If evil come upon us, the sword, judgment, or pestilence, or famine, we will stand before this house, and before thee, (for thy name is in this house,) and cry unto thee in our affliction, and thou wilt hear and save. |
『つるぎ、審判、疫病、ききんなどの災がわれわれに臨む時、われわれはこの宮の前に立って、あなたの前におり、その悩みの中であなたに呼ばわります。すると、あなたは聞いて助けられます。あなたの名はこの宮にあるからです』と。 |
| 20-10 |
And now, behold, the children of Ammon and Moab and mount Seir, whom thou wouldest not let Israel invade, when they came out of the land of Egypt, but they turned aside from them, and destroyed them not; |
今アンモン、モアブ、およびセイル山の人々をごらんなさい。昔イスラエルがエジプトの国から出てきた時、あなたはイスラエルに彼らを侵すことをゆるされなかったので、イスラエルは彼らを離れて、滅ぼしませんでした。 |
| 20-11 |
behold, how they reward us, to come to cast us out of thy possession, which thou hast given us to inherit. |
彼らがわれわれに報いるところをごらんください。彼らは来て、あなたがわれわれに賜わったあなたの領地からわれわれを追い払おうとしています。 |
| 20-12 |
O our God, wilt thou not judge them? for we have no might against this great company that cometh against us; neither know we what to do: but our eyes are upon thee. |
われわれの神よ、あなたは彼らをさばかれないのですか。われわれはこのように攻めて来る大軍に当る力がなく、またいかになすべきかを知りません。ただ、あなたを仰ぎ望むのみです」。 |
| 20-13 |
And all Judah stood before Jehovah, with their little ones, their wives, and their children. |
ユダの人々はその幼な子、その妻、および子供たちと共に皆主の前に立っていた。 |
| 20-14 |
Then upon Jahaziel the son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, the Levite, of the sons of Asaph, came the Spirit of Jehovah in the midst of the assembly; |
その時主の霊が会衆の中でアサフの子孫であるレビびとヤハジエルに臨んだ。ヤハジエルはゼカリヤの子、ゼカリヤはベナヤの子、ベナヤはエイエルの子、エイエルはマッタニヤの子である。 |
| 20-15 |
and he said, Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king Jehoshaphat: Thus saith Jehovah unto you, Fear not ye, neither be dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God’s. |
ヤハジエルは言った、「ユダの人々、エルサレムの住民、およびヨシャパテ王よ、聞きなさい。主はあなたがたにこう仰せられる、『この大軍のために恐れてはならない。おののいてはならない。これはあなたがたの戦いではなく、主の戦いだからである。 |
| 20-16 |
To-morrow go ye down against them: behold, they come up by the ascent of Ziz; and ye shall find them at the end of the valley, before the wilderness of Jeruel. |
あす、彼らの所へ攻め下りなさい。見よ、彼らはヂヅの坂から上って来る。あなたがたはエルエルの野の東、谷の端でこれに会うであろう。 |
| 20-17 |
Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of Jehovah with you, O Judah and Jerusalem; fear not, nor be dismayed: to-morrow go out against them: for Jehovah is with you. |
この戦いには、あなたがたは戦うに及ばない。ユダおよびエルサレムよ、あなたがたは進み出て立ち、あなたがたと共におられる主の勝利を見なさい。恐れてはならない。おののいてはならない。あす、彼らの所に攻めて行きなさい。主はあなたがたと共におられるからである』」。 |
| 20-18 |
And Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground; and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell down before Jehovah, worshipping Jehovah. |
ヨシャパテは地にひれ伏した。ユダの人々およびエルサレムの民も主の前に伏して、主を拝した。 |
| 20-19 |
And the Levites, of the children of the Kohathites and of the children of the Korahites, stood up to praise Jehovah, the God of Israel, with an exceeding loud voice. |
その時コハテびとの子孫、およびコラびとの子孫であるレビびとが立ち上がり、大声をあげてイスラエルの神、主をさんびした。 |
| 20-20 |
And they rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa: and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem: believe in Jehovah your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper. |
彼らは朝早く起きてテコアの野に出て行った。その出て行くとき、ヨシャパテは立って言った、「ユダの人々およびエルサレムの民よ、わたしに聞きなさい。あなたがたの神、主を信じなさい。そうすればあなたがたは堅く立つことができる。主の預言者を信じなさい。そうすればあなたがたは成功するでしょう」。 |
| 20-21 |
And when he had taken counsel with the people, he appointed them that should sing unto Jehovah, and give praise in holy array, as they went out before the army, and say, Give thanks unto Jehovah; for his lovingkindness endureth for ever. |
彼はまた民と相談して人々を任命し、聖なる飾りを着けて軍勢の前に進ませ、主に向かって歌をうたい、かつさんびさせ、「主に感謝せよ、そのいつくしみはとこしえに絶えることがない」と言わせた。 |
| 20-22 |
And when they began to sing and to praise, Jehovah set liers-in-wait against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, that were come against Judah; and they were smitten. |
そして彼らが歌をうたい、さんびし始めた時、主は伏兵を設け、かのユダに攻めてきたアンモン、モアブ、セイル山の人々に向かわせられたので、彼らは打ち敗られた。 |
| 20-23 |
For the children of Ammon and Moab stood up against the inhabitants of mount Seir, utterly to slay and destroy them: and when they had made an end of the inhabitants of Seir, every one helped to destroy another. |
すなわちアンモンとモアブの人々は立ち上がって、セイル山の民に敵し、彼らを殺して全く滅ぼしたが、セイルの民を殺し尽すに及んで、彼らもおのおの互に助けて滅ぼしあった。 |
| 20-24 |
And when Judah came to the watch-tower of the wilderness, they looked upon the multitude; and, behold, they were dead bodies fallen to the earth, and there were none that escaped. |
ユダの人々は野の物見やぐらへ行って、かの群衆を見たが、地に倒れた死体だけであって、ひとりものがれた者はなかった。 |
| 20-25 |
And when Jehoshaphat and his people came to take the spoil of them, they found among them in abundance both riches and dead bodies, and precious jewels, which they stripped off for themselves, more than they could carry away: and they were three days in taking the spoil, it was so much. |
それでヨシャパテとその民は彼らの物を奪うために来て見ると、多数の家畜、財宝、衣服および宝石などおびただしくあったので、おのおのそれをはぎ取ったが、運びきれないほどたくさんで、かすめ取るに三日もかかった。それほど物が多かったのである。 |

And on the fourth day they assembled themselves in the valley of Beracah; for there they blessed Jehovah: therefore the name of that place was called The valley of Beracah unto this day. |
四日目に彼らはベラカの谷に集まり、その所で主を祝福した。それでその所の名を今日までベラカの谷と呼んでいる。 |
| 20-27 |
Then they returned, every man of Judah and Jerusalem, and Jehoshaphat in the forefront of them, to go again to Jerusalem with joy; for Jehovah had made them to rejoice over their enemies. |
そしてユダとエルサレムの人々は皆ヨシャパテを先に立て、喜んでエルサレムに帰ってきた。主が彼らにその敵のことによって喜びを与えられたからである。 |
| 20-28 |
And they came to Jerusalem with psalteries and harps and trumpets unto the house of Jehovah. |
すなわち彼らは立琴、琴およびラッパをもってエルサレムの主の宮に来た。 |
| 20-29 |
And the fear of God was on all the kingdoms of the countries, when they heard that Jehovah fought against the enemies of Israel. |
そしてもろもろの国の民は主がイスラエルの敵と戦われたことを聞いて神を恐れた。 |
| 20-30 |
So the realm of Jehoshaphat was quiet; for his God gave him rest round about. |
こうして神が四方に安息を賜わったので、ヨシャパテの国は穏やかであった。 |
| 20-31 |
And Jehoshaphat reigned over Judah: he was thirty and five years old when he began to reign; and he reigned twenty and five years in Jerusalem: and his mother’s name was Azubah the daughter of Shilhi. |
このようにヨシャパテはユダを治めた。彼は三十五歳の時、王となり、二十五年の間エルサレムで世を治めた。彼の母の名はアズバといってシルヒの娘である。 |

And he walked in the way of Asa his father, and turned not aside from it, doing that which was right in the eyes of Jehovah. |
ヨシャパテは父アサの道を歩んでそれを離れず、主の目に正しいと見られることを行った。 |
| 20-33 |
Howbeit the high places were not taken away; neither as yet had the people set their hearts unto the God of their fathers. |
しかし高き所は除かず、また民はその先祖の神に心を傾けなかった。 |
| 20-34 |
Now the rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, first and last, behold, they are written in the history of Jehu the son of Hanani, which is inserted in the book of the kings of Israel. |
ヨシャパテのその他の始終の行為は、ハナニの子エヒウの書にしるされ、イスラエルの列王の書に載せられてある。 |
| 20-35 |
And after this did Jehoshaphat king of Judah join himself with Ahaziah king of Israel; the same did very wickedly: |
この後ユダの王ヨシャパテはイスラエルの王アハジヤと相結んだ。アハジヤは悪を行った。 |

and he joined himself with him to make ships to go to Tarshish; and they made the ships in Ezion-geber. |
ヨシャパテはタルシシへ行く船を造るためにアハジヤと相結び、エジオン・ゲベルで一緒に船数隻を造った。 |
| 20-37 |
Then Eliezer the son of Dodavahu of Mareshah prophesied against Jehoshaphat, saying, Because thou hast joined thyself with Ahaziah, Jehovah hath destroyed thy works. And the ships were broken, so that they were not able to go to Tarshish. |
その時マレシャのドダワの子エリエゼルはヨシャパテに向かって預言し、「あなたはアハジヤと相結んだので、主はあなたの造った物をこわされます」と言ったが、その船は難破して、タルシシへ行くことができなかった。 |
