| 26-1 |
And all the people of Judah took Uzziah, who was sixteen years old, and made him king in the room of his father Amaziah. |
そこでユダの民は皆ウジヤをとって王となし、その父アマジヤに代らせた。時に十六歳であった。 |
| 26-2 |
He built Eloth, and restored it to Judah, after that the king slept with his fathers. |
彼はエラテを建てて、これをふたたびユダのものにした。これはかの王がその先祖たちと共に眠った後であった。 |
| 26-3 |
Sixteen years old was Uzziah when he began to reign; and he reigned fifty and two years in Jerusalem: and his mother’s name was Jechiliah, of Jerusalem. |
ウジヤは王となった時十六歳で、エルサレムで五十二年の間世を治めた。その母はエルサレムの者で名をエコリヤといった。 |

And he did that which was right in the eyes of Jehovah, according to all that his father Amaziah had done. |
ウジヤは父アマジヤがしたように、すべて主の良しと見られることを行った。 |
| 26-5 |
And he set himself to seek God in the days of Zechariah, who had understanding in the vision of God: and as long as he sought Jehovah, God made him to prosper. |
彼は神を恐れることを自分に教えたゼカリヤの世にある日の間、神を求めることに努めた。彼が主を求めた間、神は彼を栄えさせられた。 |

And he went forth and warred against the Philistines, and brake down the wall of Gath, and the wall of Jabneh, and the wall of Ashdod; and he built cities in the country of Ashdod, and among the Philistines. |
彼は出てペリシテびとと戦い、ガテの城壁、ヤブネの城壁およびアシドドの城壁をくずし、アシドドの地とペリシテびとのなかに町を建てた。 |

And God helped him against the Philistines, and against the Arabians that dwelt in Gur-baal, and the Meunim. |
神は彼を助けてペリシテびとと、グルバアルに住むアラビヤびとおよびメウニびとを攻め撃たせられた。 |
| 26-8 |
And the Ammonites gave tribute to Uzziah: and his name spread abroad even to the entrance of Egypt; for he waxed exceeding strong. |
アンモンびとはウジヤにみつぎを納めた。ウジヤは非常に強くなったので、その名はエジプトの入口までも広まった。 |
| 26-9 |
Moreover Uzziah built towers in Jerusalem at the corner gate, and at the valley gate, and at the turning of the wall, and fortified them. |
ウジヤはまたエルサレムの隅の門、谷の門および城壁の曲りかどにやぐらを建てて、これを堅固にした。 |
| 26-10 |
And he built towers in the wilderness, and hewed out many cisterns, for he had much cattle; in the lowland also, and in the plain: and he had husbandmen and vinedressers in the mountains and in the fruitful fields; for he loved husbandry. |
彼はまた荒野にやぐらを建て、また多くの水ためを掘った。彼は平野にも平地にもたくさんの家畜をもっていたからである。彼はまた農事を好んだので、山々および肥えた畑には農夫とぶどうをつくる者をもっていた。 |

Moreover Uzziah had an army of fighting men, that went out to war by bands, according to the number of their reckoning made by Jeiel the scribe and Maaseiah the officer, under the hand of Hananiah, one of the king’s captains. |
ウジヤはまたよく戦う一軍団を持っていた。彼らは書記エイエルと、つかさマアセヤによって調べた数に従って組々に分れ、皆王の軍長のひとりハナニヤの指揮下にあった。 |

The whole number of the heads of fathers’ houses, even the mighty men of valor, was two thousand and six hundred. |
その氏族の長である大勇士の数は合わせて二千六百人であった。 |
| 26-13 |
And under their hand was an army, three hundred thousand and seven thousand and five hundred, that made war with mighty power, to help the king against the enemy. |
その指揮下にある軍勢は三十万七千五百人で、皆大いなる力をもって戦い、王を助けて敵に当った。 |
| 26-14 |
And Uzziah prepared for them, even for all the host, shields, and spears, and helmets, and coats of mail, and bows, and stones for slinging. |
ウジヤはその全軍のために盾、やり、かぶと、よろい、弓および石投げの石を備えた。 |
| 26-15 |
And he made in Jerusalem engines, invented by skilful men, to be on the towers and upon the battlements, wherewith to shoot arrows and great stones. And his name spread far abroad; for he was marvellously helped, till he was strong. |
彼はまたエルサレムで技術者の考案した機械を造って、これをやぐらおよび城壁のすみずみにすえ、これをもって矢および大石を射出した。こうして彼の名声は遠くまで広まった。彼が驚くほど神の助けを得て強くなったからである。 |
| 26-16 |
But when he was strong, his heart was lifted up, so that he did corruptly, and he trespassed against Jehovah his God; for he went into the temple of Jehovah to burn incense upon the altar of incense. |
ところが彼は強くなるに及んで、その心に高ぶり、ついに自分を滅ぼすに至った。すなわち彼はその神、主にむかって罪を犯し、主の宮にはいって香の祭壇の上に香をたこうとした。 |
| 26-17 |
And Azariah the priest went in after him, and with him fourscore priests of Jehovah, that were valiant men: |
その時、祭司アザリヤは主の祭司である勇士八十人を率いて、彼のあとに従ってはいり、 |
| 26-18 |
and they withstood Uzziah the king, and said unto him, It pertaineth not unto thee, Uzziah, to burn incense unto Jehovah, but to the priests the sons of Aaron, that are consecrated to burn incense: go out of the sanctuary; for thou hast trespassed; neither shall it be for thine honor from Jehovah God. |
ウジヤ王を引き止めて言った、「ウジヤよ、主に香をたくことはあなたのなすべきことではなく、ただアロンの子孫で、香をたくために清められた祭司たちのすることです。すぐ聖所から出なさい。あなたは罪を犯しました。あなたは主なる神から栄えを得ることはできません」。 |
| 26-19 |
Then Uzziah was wroth; and he had a censer in his hand to burn incense; and while he was wroth with the priests, the leprosy brake forth in his forehead before the priests in the house of Jehovah, beside the altar of incense. |
するとウジヤは怒りを発し、香炉を手にとって香をたこうとしたが、彼が祭司に向かって怒りを発している間に、らい病がその額に起った。時に彼は主の宮で祭司たちの前、香の祭壇のかたわらにいた。 |
| 26-20 |
And Azariah the chief priest, and all the priests, looked upon him, and, behold, he was leprous in his forehead, and they thrust him out quickly from thence; yea, himself hasted also to go out, because Jehovah had smitten him. |
祭司の長アザリヤおよびすべての祭司たちが彼を見ると、彼の額にらい病が生じていたので、急いで彼をそこから追い出した。彼自身もまた主に撃たれたことを知って、急いで出て行った。 |
| 26-21 |
And Uzziah the king was a leper unto the day of his death, and dwelt in a separate house, being a leper; for he was cut off from the house of Jehovah: and Jotham his son was over the king’s house, judging the people of the land. |
ウジヤ王は、死ぬ日までらい病人であった。彼はらい病人であったので、離れ殿に住んだ。主の宮から断たれたからである。その子ヨタムが王の家をつかさどり、国の民を治めた。 |
| 26-22 |
Now the rest of the acts of Uzziah, first and last, did Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, write. |
ウジヤのその他の始終の行為は、アモツの子預言者イザヤがこれを書きしるした。 |
| 26-23 |
So Uzziah slept with his fathers; and they buried him with his fathers in the field of burial which belonged to the kings; for they said, He is a leper: and Jotham his son reigned in his stead. |
ウジヤは先祖たちと共に眠ったので、人々は「彼はらい病人である」と言って、王たちの墓に連なる墓地に、その先祖たちと共に葬った。その子ヨタムが彼に代って王となった。 |
