32-1 After these things, and this faithfulness, Sennacherib king of Assyria came, and entered into Judah, and encamped against the fortified cities, and thought to win them for himself. ヒゼキヤがこれらの事を忠実に行った後、アッスリヤの王セナケリブが来てユダに侵入し、堅固な町々に向かって陣を張り、これを攻め取ろうとした。
32-2 And when Hezekiah saw that Sennacherib was come, and that he was purposed to fight against Jerusalem, ヒゼキヤはセナケリブが来て、エルサレムを攻めようとするのを見たので、
32-3 he took counsel with his princes and his mighty men to stop the waters of the fountains which were without the city; and they helped him. そのつかさたちおよび勇士たちと相談して、町の外にある泉の水を、ふさごうとした。彼らはこれを助けた。
32-4 So there was gathered much people together, and they stopped all the fountains, and the brook that flowed through the midst of the land, saying, Why should the kings of Assyria come, and find much water? 多くの民は集まって、すべての泉および国の中を流れる谷川をふさいで言った、「アッスリヤの王たちがきて、多くの水を得られるようなことをしておいていいだろうか」。
32-5 And he took courage, and built up all the wall that was broken down, and raised it up to the towers, and the other wall without, and strengthened Millo in the city of David, and made weapons and shields in abundance. ヒゼキヤはまた勇気を出して、破れた城壁をことごとく築き直して、その上にやぐらを建て、その外にまた城壁を巡らし、ダビデの町のミロを堅固にし、武器および盾を多く造り、
32-6 And he set captains of war over the people, and gathered them together to him in the broad place at the gate of the city, and spake comfortably to them, saying, 軍長を民の上に置き、町の門の広場に民を集めて、これを励まして言った、
32-7 Be strong and of good courage, be not afraid nor dismayed for the king of Assyria, nor for all the multitude that is with him; for there is a greater with us than with him: 「心を強くし、勇みたちなさい。アッスリヤの王をも、彼と共にいるすべての群衆をも恐れてはならない。おののいてはならない。われわれと共におる者は彼らと共におる者よりも大いなる者だからである。
32-8 with him is an arm of flesh; but with us is Jehovah our God to help us, and to fight our battles. And the people rested themselves upon the words of Hezekiah king of Judah. 彼と共におる者は肉の腕である。しかしわれわれと共におる者はわれわれの神、主であって、われわれを助け、われわれに代って戦われる」。民はユダの王ヒゼキヤの言葉に安心した。
32-9 After this did Sennacherib king of Assyria send his servants to Jerusalem, (now he was before Lachish, and all his power with him,) unto Hezekiah king of Judah, and unto all Judah that were at Jerusalem, saying, この後アッスリヤの王セナケリブはその全軍をもってラキシを囲んでいたが、その家来をエルサレムにつかわして、ユダの王ヒゼキヤおよびエルサレムにいるすべてのユダの人に告げさせて言った、
32-10 Thus saith Sennacherib king of Assyria, Whereon do ye trust, that ye abide the siege in Jerusalem? 「アッスリヤの王セナケリブはこう言います、『あなたがたは何を頼んでエルサレムにこもっているのか。
32-11 Doth not Hezekiah persuade you, to give you over to die by famine and by thirst, saying, Jehovah our God will deliver us out of the hand of the king of Assyria? ヒゼキヤは「われわれの神、主がアッスリヤの王の手から、われわれを救ってくださる」と言って、あなたがたをそそのかし、飢えと、かわきをもって、あなたがたを死なせようとしているのではないか。
32-12 Hath not the same Hezekiah taken away his high places and his altars, and commanded Judah and Jerusalem, saying, Ye shall worship before one altar, and upon it shall ye burn incense? このヒゼキヤは主のもろもろの高き所と祭壇を取り除き、ユダとエルサレムに命じて、「あなたがたはただ一つの祭壇の前で礼拝し、その上に犠牲をささげなければならない」と言った者ではないか。
32-13 Know ye not what I and my fathers have done unto all the peoples of the lands? Were the gods of the nations of the lands in any wise able to deliver their land out of my hand? あなたがたは、わたしおよびわたしの先祖たちが、他の国々のすべての民にしたことを知らないのか。それらの国々の民の神々は、少しでもその国を、わたしの手から救い出すことができたか。
32-14 Who was there among all the gods of those nations which my fathers utterly destroyed, that could deliver his people out of my hand, that your God should be able to deliver you out of my hand? わたしの先祖たちが滅ぼし尽したそれらの国民のもろもろの神のうち、だれか自分の民をわたしの手から救い出すことのできたものがあるか。それで、どうしてあなたがたの神が、あなたがたをわたしの手から救い出すことができよう。
32-15 Now therefore let not Hezekiah deceive you, nor persuade you after this manner, neither believe ye him; for no god of any nation or kingdom was able to deliver his people out of my hand, and out of the hand of my fathers: how much less shall your God deliver you out of my hand? それゆえ、あなたがたはヒゼキヤに欺かれてはならない。そそのかされてはならない。また彼を信じてはならない。いずれの民、いずれの国の神もその民をわたしの手、または、わたしの先祖の手から救いだすことができなかったのだから、ましてあなたがたの神が、どうしてわたしの手からあなたがたを救いだすことができようか』」。
32-16 And his servants spake yet more against Jehovah God, and against his servant Hezekiah. セナケリブの家来は、このほかにも多く主なる神、およびそのしもべヒゼキヤをそしった。
32-17 He wrote also letters, to rail on Jehovah, the God of Israel, and to speak against him, saying, As the gods of the nations of the lands, which have not delivered their people out of my hand, so shall not the God of Hezekiah deliver his people out of my hand. セナケリブはまた手紙を書き送って、イスラエルの神、主をあざけり、かつそしって言った、「諸国の民の神々が、その民をわたしの手から救い出さなかったように、ヒゼキヤの神も、その民をわたしの手から救い出さないであろう」と。
32-18 And they cried with a loud voice in the Jews’ language unto the people of Jerusalem that were on the wall, to affright them, and to trouble them; that they might take the city. そして彼らは大声をあげ、ユダヤの言葉をもって、城壁の上にいるエルサレムの民に向かって叫び、これをおどし、かつおびやかした。彼らは町を取るためである。
32-19 And they spake of the God of Jerusalem, as of the gods of the peoples of the earth, which are the work of men’s hands. このように彼らがエルサレムの神について語ること、人の手のわざである地上の民の神々について語るようであった。
32-20 And Hezekiah the king, and Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz, prayed because of this, and cried to heaven. そこでヒゼキヤ王およびアモツの子預言者イザヤは共に祈って、天に呼ばわったので、
32-21 And Jehovah sent an angel, who cut off all the mighty men of valor, and the leaders and captains, in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with shame of face to his own land. And when he was come into the house of his god, they that came forth from his own bowels slew him there with the sword. 主はひとりのみ使をつかわして、アッスリヤ王の陣営にいるすべての大勇士と将官、軍長らを滅ぼされた。それで王は赤面して自分の国に帰ったが、その神の家にはいった時、その子のひとりが、つるぎをもって彼をその所で殺した。
32-22 Thus Jehovah saved Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib the king of Assyria, and from the hand of all others , and guided them on every side. このように主は、ヒゼキヤとエルサレムの住民をアッスリヤの王セナケリブの手およびすべての敵の手から救い出し、いたる所で彼らを守られた。
32-23 And many brought gifts unto Jehovah to Jerusalem, and precious things to Hezekiah king of Judah; so that he was exalted in the sight of all nations from thenceforth. そこで多くの人々はささげ物をエルサレムに携えてきて主にささげ、また宝物をユダの王ヒゼキヤに贈った。この後ヒゼキヤは万国の民に尊ばれた。
32-24 In those days Hezekiah was sick even unto death: and he prayed unto Jehovah; and he spake unto him, and gave him a sign. そのころ、ヒゼキヤは病んで死ぬばかりであったが、主に祈ったので、主はこれに答えて、しるしを賜わった。
32-25 But Hezekiah rendered not again according to the benefit done unto him; for his heart was lifted up: therefore there was wrath upon him, and upon Judah and Jerusalem. しかしヒゼキヤはその受けた恵みに報いることをせず、その心が高ぶったので、怒りが彼とユダおよびエルサレムに臨もうとしたが、
32-26 Notwithstanding Hezekiah humbled himself for the pride of his heart, both he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the wrath of Jehovah came not upon them in the days of Hezekiah. ヒゼキヤはその心の高ぶりを悔いてへりくだり、またエルサレムの住民も同様にしたので、主の怒りは、ヒゼキヤの世には彼らに臨まなかった。
32-27 And Hezekiah had exceeding much riches and honor: and he provided him treasuries for silver, and for gold, and for precious stones, and for spices, and for shields, and for all manner of goodly vessels; ヒゼキヤは富と栄誉をきわめ、宝蔵を造って、金、銀、宝石、香料、盾および各種の尊い器物をおさめ、
32-28 store-houses also for the increase of grain and new wine and oil; and stalls for all manner of beasts, and flocks in folds. また倉庫を造って穀物、酒、油などの産物をおさめ、小屋を造って種々の家畜を置き、おりを造って羊の群れを置き、
32-29 Moreover he provided him cities, and possessions of flocks and herds in abundance; for God had given him very much substance. また多数の町を設け、かつ羊と牛をおびただしく所有した。神が非常に多くの貨財を彼に賜わったからである。
32-30 This same Hezekiah also stopped the upper spring of the waters of Gihon, and brought them straight down on the west side of the city of David. And Hezekiah prospered in all his works. このヒゼキヤはまたギホンの水の上の源をふさいで、これをダビデの町の西の方にまっすぐに引き下した。このようにヒゼキヤはそのすべてのわざをなし遂げた。
32-31 Howbeit in the business of the ambassadors of the princes of Babylon, who sent unto him to inquire of the wonder that was done in the land, God left him, to try him, that he might know all that was in his heart. しかしバビロンの君たちが使者をつかわして、この国にあった、しるしについて尋ねさせた時には、神は彼を試みて、彼の心にあることを、ことごとく知るために彼を捨て置かれた。
32-32 Now the rest of the acts of Hezekiah, and his good deeds, behold, they are written in the vision of Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz, in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel. ヒゼキヤのその他の行為およびその徳行は、アモツの子預言者イザヤの黙示とユダとイスラエルの列王の書にしるされている。
32-33 And Hezekiah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the ascent of the sepulchres of the sons of David: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem did him honor at his death. And Manasseh his son reigned in his stead. ヒゼキヤはその先祖たちと共に眠ったので、ダビデの子孫の墓のうちの高い所に葬られた。ユダの人々およびエルサレムの住民は皆その死に当って彼に敬意を表した。その子マナセが彼に代って王となった。
